Yes; KARE has been affiliated with NBC since 1979 when the station was still known as WTCN; prior to that, they were a Metromedia owned and operated independent station, which they had been from 1971 until 1979.

So did all Gannett Station in the 80's have the same set design? WXIA-TV 11Alive had the exact same set in the 80's and early 90's. Also did all Gannett stations have the company logo at the start of each news, because WXIA-TV did the same.

Was KARE affiliated with NBC in 86? I notice no NBC mention on the station ident.

Passolt was at KARE-TV (WTCN, WUSA)from 1981 to 1994, then went to Denver for two years before coming to KMSP to anchor te news. KARE-TV (WTCN-TV) was an NBC affiliate starting in 1979.

Jeff Pasolt is on FOX 9 NEWS now he does not do sports anymore he is just a news anchor now and Paul Dougless is on WCCO and still a weather guy.

I remember that day well, living right across the river from Brooklyn Park in Coon Rapids, driving with my mom down Mississippi Blvd from the McDonalds by AR College, and seeing that black sucker winding down. I'd never seen a tornado before that! Thought it was headed towards our house! It could have, Springbrook was only 6 or 7 miles away...
