@GrUnchable What format is the 2d saved in? Are you using Illustrator or similar application? You could try the import option from the File (Green button) menu and import a 2d shape as a spline object.
@jzamudification Not using Revit unfortunately but hopefully you will find a solution that works. Have you looked at using the FBX export function as this is often used to take things from one software app to another, or do you mean applying a texture map floorplan to a plane or equivelent in Revit?
If you can reconstruct the following link the answer should be in there: images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/3dsmaxdesign_2010_using_autodesk_revit_files00.pdf
that is a great learning resource we appreciate your way of presenting the lesson and we hope you present part 3 and 4 as we want to complete the house with doors and windows and changes the materials
is it possible to draw this contentious line in closeup and move viewport in the same time just like drawing polyline in autocad? scrolling up and down or drawing in large view like you do is kind of enjoying. when I move viewport by mouse middleclick I'm ending the line. please help:)
@vansatria Really pleased the vids were helpful :-)
I am currently updating my vids for 3D Max 2012 covering all of the basics and some additional techniques. These will be uploading in the near future when I have the set all ready.
@IncreaseBrain Have you lost the arrows in the viewports rather than the cursor which may be an operating system issue? If it is just the arrows (red, green, blue colours) press X on your keyboard to bring them back and the - and + keys to make it bigger and smaller. Hope this resolves your issue. Marcus
@toms900 Using the CTRL, Shift, and Alt keys all the time it is really easy to press the X key by accident and not realise. Another one is the Space bar where it locks your selection and can't click on anything else until you hit Space again :)
Thanks for your comment, and hope your modelling goes well. Also, if you are interested in shortcut keys, I have a video (2-parts) showing a number of common ones. If you are interested, have a quick search through my channel to find.
@uzonigor Part 3 would be good but didn't plan on making it. I have covered a similar type of thing using AEC walls if that is of use. Is there anything in particular you would like covered?
Hi, nice tutorial..been searchin all over for this... have a doubt, am using 3d max 8 and that does not have pro boolean, is tere any other way to select all the windows at once and subtract them in boolean method..and after doin boolean, i get these.. daigonal lines near the subtracted windows... hw do u remove them.. ?
@ASHLEE654 You could attach all the windows as one large polygon object and use the normal boolean command to cut these out, or you may be interested in looking at my tutorial on using the AEC wall and window objects which can also produce some good results: youtube.com/watch?v=D51K-baS_po
@MarcusDesigns hey thanks for the reply it did work.. can u post sme tutorials on doin' 3d modelling of a sloped house in autocad!.. that would be grt!
@ASHLEE654 I have little experience in Autocad so this would be an area for others to maybe cover. All my experience is using Max, and some Maya (but I personally prefer Max) Glad the boolean worked and let me know of any other tuts you would like to see.
@ox0Jason0xo Throughout my video tutorials I often remind those following to do the things that the more experienced take for granted. Comments that help make the tut easier to follow are appreciated. Thanks for providing this further guidance where it was needed.
@MarcusDesigns I need a little help i created a good floor plan using this method, but when i try to actually stick a camera in there to do a walkthrough the hallways are cramped, any suggestions?
@jonOnEyeBlind Have you looked at the camera settings for field of view (FOV) or changing the camera lens? These may help. Also, if you're making a walkthrough, have a look at the walkthrough assistant? This may speed up some of the options you will be using.
@jonOnEyeBlind You may want to try creating a spline object the same size as your wall plan, and then extrude this to make a solid object. It would be a quick and easy method so may be suitable. It would depend on what you were trying to achieve. Let me know how this goes.
@MarcusDesigns would you mind if i sent you the design im working on and explain the problem in a little more detail, to get resolved easier? the FOV will make the hallway look wider but it still looks way to skinny
@jonOnEyeBlind Have you tried reducing the height and width of the walls? Select a wall, enter the segment sub-object mode in the modifier stack, and then reduce these to see the effect. Let me know if this works out.
hi...please help me how to open a 2d in 3dsmax..
