Well, this was 3 years ago, and even then, there was very little going on in the Tal Afar area. It did pick up after we left from what I heard, but my buddies who have been back there in the last year tell me that all of Iraq is very quiet now, compared to how it was.
We had our line platoons at the granary while I was there. Our platoon ran route clearance out of FOB Sykes and Ft. Tal Afar. Our sector was the entire city, west to Sinjar, North to Syria, down Reno a few miles, and to the Arches at Mosul.
We had already found it. One of our EOD teams set it off. You can see their little bomb robot just to the right of the vehicle in the middle of the screen.
GAWWDD DAAMMN! lol. You'd think that after going through the trouble of smuggling the stuff hundreds of miles from Iran, hiding it, then waiting for ages they'd at least try to detonate it on time.
