There was no phone; no plumbing/running water in villages and smaller cities. Meanwhile, shah and his family were wasting people’s money by providing lavish parties. Oh yes... and there was no electricity in most of the country. If you could afford to have a phone line, a TV, and a refrigerator you were considered very rich!
