I cried when Don Knotts died... He was like part of my family. I will miss Andy when he passes. I am only 30, but I was raised on this show... it brings back memories of my wonderful childhood :)
Damn, this song depresses me. Reminds me how simple life use to be back then, and it reminds me of this classic ole tv show, then it reminds me how old I am growing and how the world is changing and I get a little sad deep down :( Great song none the less.
If I'm not mistaken, Andy Griffith was a music major in college. I first heard this version on a TV commercial some 10--15 years ago. I also liked the version on the TV. A couple of years ago, jazz pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs offered up a very adventurous take on this song that is simply AWSOME! YOu have to hear it to believe it!
Yes, it IS Andy Griffith who was singing. A music store was selling a CD of his songs more than a decade ago, and this song was on the first track. I listened to it in the store, and it was the first time that I heard that song with its lyrics.
