I was so beyond excited when I saw that Lea was doing my favorite Christmas song ever! and she did not dissapoint! I have chills throughout the whole song every time!..and it needs to be like November so I can stop getting dirty looks from my family whenever I blast this song!
Music as an art is so much more than a good voice and high notes. Most ppl focus only on sounding good and looking good, not many take their time on the lyrics. Yes it can sound amazing with belting and melancholy opening bars, but too much of a good thing becomes vulgar when not used correctly. One of the best lessons a musician can learn is a sense of measure is what makes all the difference.
Every musician has to start with lessons, even the greats like Mozart and Beethoven were trained. To understand talent, one must hear how they started out with their natural gifts and how much they've grown since they started. Unless they all choose to do so, most of the singers have young voices (Lea's a mezzosoprano soubrette with a small top (common among "altos" today), and she may sound young her entire life) but I can tell that each singer has more to give.
she needs to take breathing lessons... seriously go listen to Linda Eder, and many others then tell me who has the least breathy voice... And "breathy" is not the same as "airy"

Can I sing.... that's the same asking as if I can breathe. Yes, everyone can sing. Is my voice special? No. Popularity does not always mean greatness. They're on TV... big deal. @shreyag6 We've never heard Quinn as a belter, so you never know what she is capable of. I always thought of Sarah McLachlan as a crooner, but man can she belt out those high notes... "The First Noel/ Mary, Mary" blends the two forms of training she had. Therefore let's see what the others can do and STOP resonating around Finn and Rachael, both of their voices are getting old to listen to. Also, they're both breathy... BAD technique

Good evening little girl, Lea's voice lacks strength except when she abuses it and shoves it in this kind of music. She's shoving into a range (I don't use the word pushed, because you can "push" into the higher parts using a healthy technique) that could seriously damage her cords.

She's always either shoving (Glee) or holding back (Awakening). Concerning her voice, most people don't understand or hear the flaws. EVERY singer has a flaw, be it in voice, acting, body. No one is perfect. How can I make this easier? It seems that the less popular singers have the better technique. I feel like Lea is still trying to find the right niche for her voice. Makes sense? Also, she has a young voice, so not surprising if she can't control certain techniques

@dangmills quinn? r u absolutely kiddin me? dianna can't pull off broadway for her life. her voice is sweet, but its very weak and, i totaly do not mean this in a bad way, but shallow. its amazing for songs like papa dont preach and time of our life, but its not good for songs that demand strong voices, like this one.

@shreyag6 We've never heard Quinn as a belter, so you never know what she is capable of. I always thought of Sarah McLachlan as a crooner, but man can she belt out those high notes... "The First Noel/ Mary, Mary" blends the two forms of training she had. Therefore let's see what the others can do and STOP resonating around Finn and Rachael, both of their voices are getting old to listen to. Also, they're both breathy... BAD technique

@dangmills if u havent noticed, they've pretty much thrown away rachel's character. altho she still gets solos, everyone hates her, her boyfriends always end up dumping her, yet she still has one thin in her heart- singing. and plus, did u watch the first season? she was the main character. and now shes not. so dont say the show resonates around her, cuz it really doesnt at all. and plus, lea has been on broadway. that gurl culd sing. dianna's voice is very weak. santana r mercedes r amazin 2.

@shreyag6 it's nice to see that Rachael gets less attention, sure she's having a crappy season but I really don't feel sorry for her. TBH I find that her need for attention is emotionally dependant which is a dumb thing. Sure Lea can sing, but her technique needs some work. The breathy sounds (not airy, Danielle De Niese is airy) are getting old. Quinn indeed has a sweet and quiet voice, which is honestly more desireable

@dangmills yeah but TBH every show in america has a character like quinn. a character that has few flaws, a person that is desirabe. but have u ever had a character that has actually seemed real? rachel represents so many teens in america, who unfortunately, r emotionally dependent. she's been bullied. mostly by quinn before the baby. its not dumb, its just who some people r. quinn's voice is desirable, but since her baby, her life has been just perfect. its unrealistic.

@shreyag6 and for the way lea sings, her voice is fine. she carries her voice in a very strong way. thats how she sings on broadway 2. its how her voice works. its not technique. i no so mnay people who r breathy in choir, but thats cuz they need the support. and quinn's voice is quiet and sweet, and back to my point, this song izn't asking for a quiet voice.

@shreyag6 I want to stick to vocal issues not character. BUT sure most ppl can relate to Rachael but is it necessary to make her an icon or inspiration? I wouldn't want to be like any of the Glee characters except Blair or Mercedes

Good evening little girl, Lea's voice lacks strength except when she abuses it and shoves it in this kind of music. She's shoving into a range (I don't use the word pushed, because you can "push" into the higher parts using a healthy technique) that could seriously damage her cords.

@blueberrysnow137 Most of her music, as you may already know, sits in a lower tessitura. I could try to sing like her, but then I'd have a sore throat and lungs due to bad technique. I actually have a life, at least I'm not a narrow minded obsessed brat.

Also, you're more of a hypocrite considering the fact that "hating" isn't coming from me. I don't hate Lea, I just know that her voice is being abused, not just the shoving but also the "little girl" sound that all the girls use for the Glee show. Apparently, the kids of "Glee Project" (despite being kicked off) all knew how to control their voices. Why don't you study some jazz and opera voice technique before scream about my critique?

My voice is NOT relevant. The words, "Can you sing better than her" just shows obsession and narrow minded thoughts. Mind you, some of the best conductors never sang, and they trained some of the best singers. "and i certainly dont need to study it." is one of the most arrogant and ignorant statements I've seen on this page. And posting three times is not obsessed, it's called "limited space".

@dangmills did you see her in spring awakening?! or find a video of her singing in it! i think she does have a pretty voice and her face isnt that "perfect". and i am not narrow minded! i looked up more about lea michele being breathy and airy and still dont see it. i get how you might think she's shoving into ranges like on songs "take me for what i am" "firework" and a couple more. but not on this song! i think thats more of glee's doing anyways not lea's

She's always either shoving (Glee) or holding back (Awakening). Concerning her voice, most people don't understand or hear the flaws. EVERY singer has a flaw, be it in voice, acting, body. No one is perfect. How can I make this easier? It seems that the less popular singers have the better technique. I feel like Lea is still trying to find the right niche for her voice. Makes sense? Also, she has a young voice, so not surprising if she can't control certain techniques
