People always argue about this and everyone's got a different pitch on how they want a drink made. You could be standing there watching this or doin it and the guy to the left hates your guts and the guy to your right wants to tip you $20. All that matters is the girl infront of you about to give out her number and one more thing --- what is that song? it's f'n awesome.
I'm sure you're an able and capable bartender in a perfect position to judge this individual. Never discard the invaluability of entertainment and the fact that the first and foremost responsibility of a bartender is to please and accomodate the desires of patrons.
I appreciate the sarcasm. Although, the fact still remains "it's not bartending, it's juggling." Pleasing the desires of a patron from a bartender perspective would no doubt include making a good quality drink with efficiency. When you're 4 deep at the bar, most patrons have no patience for the circus act.
clockus1 ur right, it is juggling. its entertainment, im not a great bartender but im pretty sound at juggling not awesome. u wouldnt flare if u were 4deep, its jus somethin u can throw in there, an if u are really busy it does give the people somethin to watch, jus coz th e2 skills are differnet doesnt meant hey should be segregated.
Man how can you call it juggling when its name is "working Flair".ist not the point of serving a dring in 30 seconds or less...eaven tho you can asswell do flair and mix a drink in no-time,when your not doing a show...my view- its the evolution of a bartender,as Gavin Mc. sayes
What you fail to understand is that you don't do that long of an act at work, unless it's actually asked of you.
Usually you just throw in a few tricks here and there(it's quite easy to impress most clients) and it doesn't really increase the time it takes to make the drinks. If it did, I wouldn't use it because I work at a very busy nightclub.
"The general rule is drinks first flair second and competition always."
As a trainer of bartenders all around the country, there probably wouldn't be one issue of this that I fail to understand. The general rule would actually be quality of drink, speed in which you get it to the customer and then ring the customer up and move on to the next person.
imakinmovezi: drop out of bartending school and get your money back is my best suggestion. They're a waste of time and money and any half-decent manager will laugh at you when you show them a resume with bartending school on it
You're a lot more polite and mature than most bar managers in that case. Regardless, bartending school may allow you to memorize a few drinks, but beyond that they're a complete waste of money and are widely ignored on resumes. It's easier to get a job barbacking with 0 experience and then moving up from there than to get a job bartending with a 'degree' in bartending.
I learned a lot more from bartending school than i ever did as a barback. It's better to become a bartender with a knowledge of drinks, sequencing, knowledge of synergy, and potentially flair...then just known how to sling some ice and fill beer fridges.
This whole arguement is pretty valid and is something i've come across alot in the industry. I think it's best looked at considering that everyone needs education whether it be from on the job or barschool training. Just remember that without practise education is useless. On the job training definitely accomodates more for practise than barschool - though this definitely isn't something you learn over the internet...
what is the songs name, anybody knows`?

Wow, he just took 5 minutes to do what any normal bartender would've taken 30 seconds to do. This is not bartending, it's called juggling.

You have it backwards, it's called juggling, and people use the words "working flair" to disguise what it really is.

All that was meant by "Drinks first", but I do realize you can't read minds.
