The only thing more stunning than the Patriots leaving Willie McGinest and Ted Johnson unprotected is that the Texans didn't select either since no one removed players from the unprotected list. The Texans shouldn't have rushed to pick Boselli seeing as Jacksonville was desperate to be rid of his health problems and high salary.
The Texans agreed to pick up Boselli because they also wanted Payne and Walker (two very good DTs at the time). Jacksonville wouldn't offer all of them unless they selected Boselli too. The Jags were in cap hell, and they desperately needed them to pick up the injured/expensive Boselli.
Boselli was the best LT in the NFL before his shoulder injury. Ogden was stronger but Boselli had better feet and fundamentals. The man was the prototype at LT and there will be very few LTs as good as he was.
@chriserwalk4386 be blew his knee out last game of the 99 season no less big reason jvillenever got to the sb that year to me anyway. but it was his shoulder injury that messed up his career ? dont remeber that thought it was the knee acl mcl tear i think ? as you said with the cap jville was really bad tom went over board that 98 off season but tom oh so smart he knew tony was done let the texans have him along with his big signing and rebuild. as a jville fan i miss him
@chriserwalk4386 meant he blew out his knee after that 99 season ending injury so late in the season too he came back week 1 in 2000 warrior for real fred had that year 1399 rushing 14 total tds avg 107 per game that year 9 str8 100 yard rushing games. toms late 90s teams whould whip del rios 05 and 06 and 07 teams 06 was a non play off season but had the number 2 d over all in the nfl and mjd rookie season should have been the rookie of the yr robbed by vince lol
It's a shame Tony Boselli was hurt for a career. I think the Jags knew he was gone for a career and never wanted to resign him over it. He was onpar with Odgen and Pace, it's a shame we only had 6 years from Tony. Because of him, 96,97,98 and 99 would have never been possible.
I cant even explain how F'in pissed off I was when I heard Boselli got picked and was no longer on my team. Still pissed to this day. FUCK U TEXANS!!!
Tony Boselli was one of the best offensive lineman in the league when he was with Jacksonville and before back problems...An Jaworski couldnt of been more wrong about what he said of quarterbacks coming to Houston and having good protection, Carr got raped when he was qb for the texans.
I remember Boselli and Brunell coming to a football practice of mine 6-7 years ago. I remember just looking a Boselli thinking that is the largest man I have ever seen in my life. Then looking over at Brunell and being disgusted how he could play in the NFL with the skinny chicken legs. Bosselli was good to bad he got hurt.
we should have drafted willie mcginist and jamal anderson cant believe that, they were unprotected. But I liked the picks of aaron glenn, marcus coleman, and gary walker. I wished they could have stayed with the team longer though.
Before the draft. The expansion team getsto pick players and all teams can only protect like 3/4ths of their roster, After each round a team can protect one player.
Tony Boselli never played a down for the Texans...how upsetting is that, Jags let Tony go cause they knew he was suffering an injury in which the medical staff did a mistake when treating him in which ended his career.
Sort of. An expansion draft is when a brand new franchise, in this case the Texans in 2002, are formed. Teams offer them five players (except kickers/punters) to draft, and they get to pick about 40 of them. It's sort of an expansion of free agency, just without competition.

I've been watching NFL football extensively since 1995....Tony Bosseli is the best left tackle i've seen in that time.
He was like a robot.Very technical & cerebral.Like the Peyton Manning of OT's

Tony Boselli, talk about an Expansion Draft bust. he never played a down in Houston and Carr felt the pain of not having Boselli.
