Also there is an inverse relationship between half life and specific radio activity. Something with a million to billion year half life is not that dangerous radiologically because it is essentially stable.

Helen Caldicott puts things really into perspective from a global point of view. She is as active as when I saw her first big video at the Robertsbridge Peace Council way back in 1983. I saw her live in London 2 years ago and continue to support her views. A pity she is so little known in wider circles. Main culture has so little room for true geniuses.

mostly about her nonsensical statements about the effects of Chernobyl; I studied nuclear science and medical engineering as a degree, and we had the chief radiologist of the ministry of health from where I am from as a tutor; he was asked by the USSR as an expert to help treat people in 1986 +1987 after the accident; most of the dead are from the first rapid reaction force and consript soldiers, and the radiocontamination of the European continent is nowhere near what she claims.

Its not about nuclear physics; its about the way she claims amount of radioactive particles is released is exagerated by a factor of about a 1000x. The problem is, she claims the WHO and the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) have doctored their research and overview of the effects of Chernobyl. In fact, unless you eat mushrooms in or from the northern ukraine or Byelorussia, you will not be affected by radionuclides from Chernobyl in Europe today(in any meaningful sense).

I have a doctorate in Health Physics (Texas A&M) and a Masters in Nuclear Engineering (MIT) and I can say unequivocally that nuclear power is orders of magnitude safer than any other form of energy, even when Chernobyl is factored into the equation.
