I'm really looking forward to hearing Time Tunnel. And ever since I heard that Bob Klein aka "Bobby Lee" was back with the band and the song "Things Change" is on the album I am more psyched. Can't wait til they start touring.
Yes, it´s really a great band. Just wondering what they are doing today. Still on the road? My hobby is to discover unknown but good rock bands from all over the world and specially from the mid 60s. Listen, for example, to The Misunderstood, The Lords and of course THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah".
@TheSunbau The D-Men known as The Fifth Estate since 1967 just recorded their new album TIME TUNNEL to be released on 11 - 11 - 11 ! It was mixed and exec produced by Shel Talmy who did The Kinks, The Who, Easybeats, Manfred Mann and early David Bowie. They have been in the studio recording and are rehearsing to get out to support it.
Oh my God! How I wish I had seen it then! This is not happening in Brazil! what a pity! I'd love to see Michael Landon as the host of this show! And he took the opportunity to have fun! How he dances! (2:08) He did not behave like a star, but as a normal young man who loved to listen and dance rock of the time! How cute! I love this guy!
@pxbx91 I have a number of these Hullabaloo full shows and on this one Brian Epstein was a co-host. He was often involed in these shows. They had him speak some from time to time and on this one from England he also introduced Joe Brown and His Brothers (band).
A great band, although their seeming fascination with the occult (D-Men, aka "Demon", and their biggest hit as the Fifth Estate being, "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead") is somewhat of a concern. That said, their records are nonetheless great. Their Jubilee label album as the Fifth Estate contains a great cover of the Monkees' "I'm A Believer".
And better yet The Fifth Estate guys actually all played and sang on their "I'm A Believer." And don't be overly concerned. The D name was a managers idea and was part of the reason it was changed. Turning the Witch Is Dead into a hit was a challenge to them by someone at a NYC party!!
All well & good about those former Red Bird & Jubilee label recording artists. But while we're disspelling nearly half-century old myths, know that the other band who committed I'm A Believer to vinyl did in my presence (& thousands of others) in 1967 a seriously ambitious & well executed live version of that Neil Diamond composition all by themselves, with no outside input whatsoever. Any assertion to the contrary is a long standing falsehood whose perpetuation at this late date is pointless.
Thanx for the good coments on The 5E. Wouldn't have mentioned The Monkees except I spoke with Peter Tork less than 2 months ago at Beat EXPO 2009 were he said they didn't play on the early 2/3 of their recordings. They were hired as actors and he joked that for the first couple of years they were just learning and a cover band live, often the norm in the 60s from The Byrds to The Kinks and even almost The Beatles with Ringo. However, The Fifth Estate were real! Even Brian Epstein knew that.
However, I am glad you defended The Monkees. They grew to be a good bunch and deserve more recognition than they have received. I'm with you on that!!
It's called "I Wanna Shout!" It's a live recording of them at the Worchester Colliseum in 1967. You can hear the whole thing on their MySpace - The Fifth Estate.
Having been around then in plenty of dance joints and halls - seems like the arm work was basically a combination of the fruge, pony, jerk and swim - while the footwork was mostly mashed potatoes - with some typical choreographed moves in between. Myself, i'd rather see the guitarist doing his solo. Looks like Dion Warwick doing the jerk up in one of the go go cages!

Open your eyes and ears to discover the amount of relatively unknown bands that existed during that period.

Are some of the dances unidentifiable and just improvisation off of what was popular at the time?

Awesome clip! My favorite D-Men song is the Kapp single "So Little Time." This is a good tune too, though.
