@lillieknight ~ What are you talking about? Clint Eastwood WAS around at the time, but was just a television personality. During that period, Laurence Harvey was a hot comodity, and in six years, appeared opposite three actresses in their Oscar-winning roles.
@lillieknight Laurence Harvey may not have been your bees knees, but he could be cynical, cruel, maybe even nasty all rolled into that handsome face. You'd have to see him in "Room at the Top" made a year earlier to get what I mean.....Here in Butterfield 8, he's practically cheating on his wife only to wind falling in love with Liz!!!
Thank you for the memories Elizabeth. You have not left us, for you will live forever on in our hearts through your films, your generosity, your love for humanity! RIP from this plane and rejoice in your new birth in heaven. There is definitely an added star in the night sky now, shining and glittering ever so brightly! Of course its you!..its wearing Diamonds!!!
Taylor's an eyeful as a sophisticated call girl wanting to go straight. The screen adaptation of O'Hara's novel grafts on a stock Hollywood ending, but the film is all Taylors's tour de force anyway. Elizabeth Taylor is one of the last, if not the last great star that came of the old Hollywood studio system. No one will ever have a career like Elizabeth Taylor. We may never see the likes of her again.
I don't think so, she is probably more beautiful now -to live so long and to still be willing to live in spite of all the things that happen to a person, even outside movies.
"Not if it KILLED me"!!I know THAT trick...the heel thing!!LoL!!Great movie...though not as utterly brilliant as 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof',it's pretty good!!A+
This always was my favorite scene fm this movie (that SHE hated) when she walked into that lounge in that simple black sheath, hair upswept, soft pink lipstick and that one strand of pearls draping around her neck and down her back, she was never more beautiful.
lol i meant to reply to your comment but i forgot to hit the "reply" link...but as you can see in my comment above, liz said she hated this film because she hated the character she played in it.she's quoted as saying that somewhere lol
@joboots007 Yes, rest in peace, beautiful Elizabeth. Her passing is the end on era. She takes the glamour and talent with her...no one today can compare. If you want to see how funny she was go on Youtube to see Liz Taylor whoops....

I agree. He doesn't have enough charisma for the part. Too bad Clint Eastwood or someone like that wasn't around. This guy's not even sexy.

Always wondered if this would've
been a better film had any other
actor than LAURENCE HARVEY
been cast as 'Weston Liggett'.
HARVEY was just, well, you wondered
why the hell a gal like TAYLOR would've
fallen for him.

@Keltster I agree that actor didnt do it for me

She probably would have had better results if she had driven her spike heel into his balls!

I don't remember this bit on the tele, it must have been cut as too anal-sadistic or some such thing.

I think this was at the peak of Elizabeth Taylor's beauty.
Don't get me wrong she has and always will be gorgeous, but
in this movie, you just can't get any better.

NICE!! She planted that spike right on his foot. And made sure it dug right in and he felt it.

It must have killed Lawrence Harvey not to get to wear those high heels.
