It might sound confusing at first but it turns out to be very easy; just listen and re-watch the in-game tutorial again and you should be fine. The game itself also supplies you with DoS and malware as well..

I, for one, like this hacking system. Just enough strategy to be engaging, yet not so intricate as to be daunting. Plus, I always hack even if I have a password. Those extra little bits of money and experience add up, and can pay big dividends later in the game.

Just because you are the 'expert', doesn't mean others are hopeless.

Hacking ruins this game, its frustrating, tedious and completly unbalanced. I and others do get it, its just sometimes you get one one that seems almost impossible, even a security 2 level can sometimes be much harder to crack than say a 4. It's a dumb system, compounded by making you wait 30 seconds between failed hacks, in an otherwise excellent game.

@BarbikaPahor Exactly. Most systems though have unidirectional (one-way) paths leading out of red pillars, preventing you from capturing them. But every once in a while you will be able to. This video is an example of the majority of systems you encounter.

This video makes it seem more challenging than it is. It took a little bit of practice, but by end-game, I had 50-something nuke viruses and 30-something stop worms that I never had to use.

In fact, the ones I did use were usually on accident because of the stupid cursor...

Hacking is very easy! Make sure you max out your hacking stealth and get the analyzer augment. Hack everything - hand pads for alarms, doors, safes, every computer, so that you get your nukes and worms and don't waste any time on fortifying.

it's very much luck based, so the best help here is hacking: stealth augment upgrade to max, many hacks that i just couldn't do because it was detecting me too early is now so easy, other than that, the system is pretty plain and simple, you have to really be dumb to not get it after at least few hours of gameplay

@icelandbobby Sorry that the game wasn't a pure shootem up cowadooty for you. It was intended as an rpg AND fps, meaning you will do more than shooting your way out of things. And honestly, if you suck bad enough to be challenged by these hours on end, then you are doing something way wrong. The main missions themselves don't require any skill in hacking, and otherwise there are plenty of pocket secretaries lying around with codes in them. No, the masterkey is not probably not happening.

It's kinda easy once you get used to it, I didn't understand this tutorial much either.

Basically try and get from blue to green orb jumping from file to file, and try and stay with files with low numbers next to them and with a low probability of getting caught and just rush trough to the end; usualy works :P

@sarttan if you watch the clips carefully, when the security line (red) gets to a fortified terminal, the clock adds a few seconds. I'm assuming that if your terminal is fortified higher levels that it adds more time, that is only an assumption though. as far as the collecting goodies, (I think you are talking about the software programs) it is all about strategy and time limits. If you have enough time, grab the programs, you may need them later for a lv 4 or 5 hack.
