3 days ago i became very sick and tired and my throat became very swollen. now my throat has gotten worse during this 3 day period and i do not feel much better then i did the first day i had it unless i am constantly on advil. i got a rapid strep test which came back negative and the doctor said 3 days ago it was too early to get the mono test because it just came in the acute stage. how long will it take before i start to feel better??
You are beautiful person inside and out. The world needs more people like you and I. You have helped me tremendously and have calmed my nerves as now my sore throat is almost gone. I'm lucky to get this at age 17 and not a later age where my body would have more trouble fighting this virus. I'm drinking plenty of water and trying new herbal teas and such. I can feel myself getting better I have had this for 10 days now. I see myself making a full recovery in less then two weeks, still kids itch
Hello, I was diagnosed with mono on June 16th and I start band camp on June the 20th. Do you think it would it be okay for me to play my snare drum if it is on a stand as long as I do not push myself at all or break a sweat? We will be inside in air conditioning, and I have not been very tired or sore. Could playing my drum affect my spleen or liver if I am not wearing it? Thank you for your informative video!
Sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with mono. The spleen and liver can become enlarged in the first few weeks after diagnosis however I think playing your snare drum on a stand should be OK. Don't overdo things - get plenty of rest, eat well and drink plenty of fluids.
@monocures hi, i have been disgnosed with mono about 4 weeks ago, i seemed to get btter but then it got just as bad as it was at first. my doctor said i had a light case so i just have bad heaches, chillz, loss of apatite, and tired. what should i do ? i start school tomorrow.
Thank you, Elizabeth! I might give these a try. I had a sonar done on my spleen yesterday morning and I'm happy to say that the girl who did the sonar said my spleen was normal. If my spleen is normal, I don't know why I still keep having pains in that area. My doctor is supposed to call me Monday to let me know the results.
I was diagnosed with mono three weeks ago and I've had pain in the spleen area even though I haven't done anything strenuous. Is this normal when you have mono?
Spleen enlargement is common in the first 3 or 4 weeks after a mono diagnosis. This can cause pressure and discomfort in the abdominal region. Hot packs or warm baths may relieve the pain as can anti-inflammatory foods and nutrients. It isadvisable to avoid strenuous exercise and contact sports until you get the all clear from your doctor.
Sorry to hear you are feeling so awful. In the acute stage of mono it is best if you can rest your body, drink plenty of fluids (or dissolve some ice cubes in your mouth if you are having difficulty swallowing) and get onto some immune-boosting supplements like vitamin C, zinc and herbs. Hot chicken broth, lemon and ginger tea, and fresh vegetable juices are excellent foods when recovering.
If you are looking for a cure for mono, try taking 3 tablsepoons of Raw extra Virgin coconut oil three times a day, as well as gargling with raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Braggs makes a good one. Also add a little bit to warm water afterwards and drink it. It doesnt taste or smell good at first, you get used to it. So if you need to you can plug your nose while you drink it!! Hope someone gets this message and gets better!!
I have this, but they said I'm not contagious anymore. However, they said I'll have the symptoms for about 2-3 more months. They also have me on vitamins. Is this true?
Epstein Barr / mono is most contagious in the initial acute stage when symptoms like the sore throat, swollen glands and fever are common. The virus can still be spread for several months after the initial infection. In some people it is sporadically spread throughout life.
Symptoms normally resolve within 2 - 4 weeks however in some people they can linger for months. If you are taking some good supplements, eating well and resting up you should bounce back well.
Hi there my name is john i was diagnosed with ebv 5weeks ago my doctor give me some homeopatics that help me and i can again go to school but now. This days i feel not so good , i had headache and diaphorised in bed and 37 celsius , i think that ebv is back again and i want pls some cures that can help me with that virus , thank you for helping me . And i didnt have a mono
Hey i had it a while ago but my lympg nodes are still swollen the doc says it's okay cause the virus will always be with me no need to freak out, is he right?
Hi, Once you have had Epstein Barr, the virus stays in your body for life in a latent or dormant form. In most people their immune system keeps it under control.
Swollen glands are typical in the acute, initial stage of the infection. In some people swollen glands can linger for weeks or months after the initial infection. If they are causing discomfort you can try lymphatic massage, gentle exercise and
natural inflammatories like vitamin C, zinc, ginger, turmeric, fish oils etc.
plz help me Elizabeth. My cousin was here at my house an i shared a ciggarette with him.but that was before he was diagnosed with mono.but his symptoms before we shared it...was real bad head aches.then he went home then a day later he got a bad fever wit swolen tonsils an swolen sweat glands on his neck an on his chin
AS FOR ME i havnt had no symptoms yet besides an head ache but those are normal for me i..how do i prevent my self from gettin the virus please help me it will be well appreciated
If you have not already had mono, then it is possible you could pick it up from your cousin. It would be a good idea to boost up your immune system with some
vitamin C, zinc and echinacea in order to fight off the virus. Eating well, getting plenty of rest and managing your stress are also important.
The virus takes a few weeks before symptoms appear, so follow the above advice for at least a month or two.
Thanks for your post. Since many people get the virus when they are younger,
then they are immune to getting it again when older. If however your girlfriend has not had the virus then she can pick it up from you through kissing or sharing drinks etc. The virus can be shed through saliva for a few weeks after infection. In some people it can be shed for months or years after the initial infection. If your girlfriend is unsure if she has had it she can get a blood test done. Elizabeth
I am over my acute mono symptoms (sore throat and swollen glands) but am still very tired and having a lot of diarrhea. I am resting a lot and taking multivitamins. How much can i push myself while going back into my exercise routine?
hi um i have had a sore throat and i really and swallow anything and i have been coughing like crazy my mom even came in and said your coughing in your sleep!! but i really dont want a blood test what should i do?????
Sorry to hear you have a nasty sore throat and cough.
A hot lemon and honey tea is good for a sore throat. If your throat is swollen do not try to eat any solid food. Have lots of hot soups and broths instead. Sucking on some ice chips and/or zinc lozenges can help reduce the swelling. Gargling with some salt in warm water is also beneficial.
so i started with symptoms on thursday morning, ignored them, and then friday morning ignored once again and chose to go out on friday night. after a long night i decided on saturday morning that it was time to rest, i rested from saturday till today, it took me till tuesday to go to the doctor. blood tests showed i didn't any bacteria, which meant no antibiotics. i went back today and he said i am a "miracle" case and have made one of the fastest recoveries he has ever seen.

Sorry to hear you have been so ill. I would recommend you get a blood test sof you can ascertain if EBV is the cause of your symptoms. I would also boost up your immunity with some vitamin C, zinc, B complex and magnesium.
The children could also start on an immune herb like echinacea and some vitamin C. Your diet should eliminate sugar and be high in fresh vegetables, fruits and good quality protein.
I hope you manage to find an answer for your chronic EBV. If you have not got positive results from natural therapies then you may need to check if you have any other microbes like mycoplasma, Lyme's or Chlamydia pneumonia which
are complicating your recovery. It is also important to test for other
conditions like anaemia, allergy, low blood sugar, underactive thyroid,
liver problems, sarcoidosis etc that can mimic Epstein Barr. A good wholistic practitioner is essential too.
Hi please help me! My daughter has just been diagnosed with this awful virus. She is very thin. I am so scared and worried she is only 17 and I feel that she shouldn't be losing so much. She can't eat or drink, her throat is the width of an old coca cola bottle opening. She tried gargling with salt water and started to choke and gasp for air. She says it feels like glass cutting in her throat even just swallowing her own saliva.
Sorry your daughter is so ill. She needs to stay hydrated. Dissolving ice cubes in her mouth can numb the pain and get liquids into her body. Zinc tablets or lozenges can help reduce the pain and inflammation. Vitamin C, Manuka honey and hot lemon drinks are also worth a try.

Glandular fever is the same condition as mononucleosis. It is caused by the Epstein Barr virus.
Typical symptoms include fever, fatigue, sore throat and swollen glands, particularly in the early stages of the illness.
Most people get over glandular fever within a month but some people get recurrent symptoms for months. A low grade recurring fever, relapsing fatigue, muscle aches and a persistant sore throat and swollen glands are common in chronic cases.
Hi Doctor I want to know I was diagnosed with depression at the age of 13 now I am 31 and a few years ago I starte to feel very very tired that was mostly the only symptom there was no pain apart from scalp tendereness sometimes I go to the Doctor and they said that it just low iron and I take Iron at night about 3 pills of them but i still feel tired what do u think this could be
Sorry to hear you have been feeling so tired. Fatigue has a number of causes including low iron levels, a chronic infection like Epstein Barr, post viral syndrome, low blood sugar, an underactive thyroid, exhausted adrenals, depression or low blood pressure.
If your doctor has diagnosed anaemia, I would recommend you take an organic iron supplement for at least a couple of months. You should also get screened for the other possible causes and then treat accordingly. Hope this helps!
Sorry to hear you are still getting fatigued after your bout with mono. About 6% of people experience a recurrence of the symptoms for months or years after they initially contact the virus. It is sometimes reclassified as CFS if there are other symptoms like recurrent sore throat, swollen glands, headaches, poor memory etc. I would recommend you repair your adrenals with some magnesium, vitamin C, a B complex, a good diet and plenty of rest. Hopefully that will get you back on track. Elizabeth
The incubation period of mono is between 30-50 days. During this period the virus silently replicates in your body and symptoms like a red throat or feeling fatigued can start to appear. The only way to find out if you have mono is to get a blood test to diagnose the illness. The red throat can also be another virus or bacteria so regardless of what is causing it I would be doing a gargle with sea salt in warm water and taking some vitamin C, zinc and garlic. Hope this helps.
I had an acute mono infection 7 years ago. which led to 1.5 years of struggle against brain-fog and fatigue, but which then disappeared completely. Then about 10 weeks ago my symptoms recurred for no apparent (to me) reason. I am struggling mightily to perform my high intensity job simply by working as little as possible etc.
I was curious whether you have looked at hydrotherapy (very hot bath followed by 30 min blanket wraps) to simulate a fever? Thanks.
Hello, informative video although I'm sad to say I've had this for around a week now and made one of these very mistakes by thinking that I was well enough and going back to work yesterday, I began to feel awful near the end.
I subsequently feel worse today!
Regarding food intake I am also having a very tricky time swallowing, and tried to eat some meat this morning but couldnt manage at all, my intake has been almost only soup and fruit as thats all I can manage! Is that Ok?
It is really important that you rest up and don't push yourself too hard in the early stages.
It is fine to eat lightly if your throat hurts. Soups, broths, soft fruits, protein smoothies, lemon teas and herb teas will help soothe your throat and heal your body. Add lots of garlic, ginger, turmeric and cayenne which are natural anti-inflammatories. Fresh pineapple is excellent too.
Also, he feels so bad just now with everything but is afraid he hasn't "hit rock bottom" yet - I don't think it can get much worse myself. How much longer could he feel *this* bad for?
Hi, my boyfriend has just been diagnosed with glandular fever.
Now, he has all the usual symptoms (swollen eyes, terrrrribly sore throat - he can barely speak - severe fatigue, aches etc... and is taking lots of pain killers etc. However, he is being sick 1-3 times a day, which I am worried about - why is this? Does this mean that the pain killers he is taking are doing him no good?
The Epstein Barr virus that causes glandular fever targets the liver, and can cause nausea and vomiting. Painkillers can worsen these symptoms.
Your boyfriend needs to keep his fluid intake up. I would recommend he eliminate fatty foods, dairy, alcohol, preservatives and coffee from his diet until he feels better.
He should try some ginger tea and dry toast to relieve his symptoms. Lemon juice in warm water is a gentle liver cleanser he could try too.
I would not recommend concentrated orange juice as it is high in fruit sugar which can affect your white blood cell activity. A better option is a freshly squeezed lemon in warm water. Lemon juice is low in sugar, high in vitamin C and very cleansing for your body.
Firstly try a gargle with salt and cayenne pepper at least 3 times a day. Do not try to eat any solid food. Have lots of hot soups and broths instead. A hot lemon and honey tea is fantastic.
Sucking on some ice chips and/or zinc lozenges can help reduce the swelling.
I would not advise using any aspirin as there is a very slight risk of
complications with Reye's Syndrome .
Vitamin C, zinc and vitamin A as discussed in my e-book can also help.
thanks. but one thing thats always bothering me is that when i wake up in the morning i have alot of mucis in my chest and i spit up alot of it does spiting up my mucis help?
White patches or pus on your tonsils is not always present in mono. Your throat can just be red, inflamed and sore.
Try a gargle with some salt and cayenne in warm water or drink a hot lemon and honey tea. Sucking on a zinc lozenge can also help relieve the pain. If your throat is so bad that it is hard to swallow then just suck on some ice cubes.
If your sore throat persists see your doctor in case it is a bacterial infection.
These symptoms can also occur with a common cold or flu virus. If they persist beyond a couple of weeks then I recommend you get a blood test from your doctor to verify if you have mono or not.
In the meantime get plenty of rest, drink lots of hot soups and lemon juice in hot water and try some steam inhalations for your stuffy nose. You could also add some vitamin C and a herbal immune booster like garlic, echinacea or olive leaf extract.
Hi, I have a sore throat and a cough and my mom said that my left lymph node in my neck is swollen but not my right. Do you think I have Mono? I also have a stuffed nose
Yes Epstein Barr virus antibodies remain in the body for life. These antibodies can also determine if you are in the acute or convalescence stage or are having a relapse of mono.
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Yes the lymph glands under the arms and in the groin can also become swollen in mono.
Loose stools are not uncommon in the acute stage of mono. The Epstein Barr virus can affect the cells lining the gastrointestinal tract. Loose stools usually clear within a couple of weeks.
If you have not already, I would recommend you get a blood test to clarify if it is mono or another virus or bacteria you have picked up.
i think i was infected with mono when i was in the philippines last month coz the symptoms i had were very similar. I had a sore throat that was killing me for about a week that didnt go away with medicine and i think i had tonsilitis. Does anyone know if the lymp nodes under your arm pits can be swollen? In this video it shows that the nodes were swollen on the neck area. Im just wondering if the lymph nodes under your arm pits can be swollen from mono coz thats what i had. please reply.
great info here thanks..i was diagnosed with mono july 08 and still now jan 09 am experiencing a minor warm feelings in my glands and neck area and still have weakness at times..the fever comes and goes. man when will this thing end??????????
Since the Epstein Barr virus is a latent virus it can recur when you are run down or under stress. Most people show no symptoms after a few months, however about 6% of people get recurrent symptoms that can last months or years.
If this sounds like you, it is really important that you boost your immunity with nutrients like vitamin C, zinc and vitamin A. Herbs like astragalus and olive leaf can help, plus a higher protein diet with lots of water. Liver cleansing is also a good idea. Good luck!
The Epstein Barr virus that causes mono is shed from the throat during the illness and up to a year after the infection. The virus can also become dormant and later reactivate and be shed from the throat again. In fact some people spread the virus intermittently for life.
If you know you have an active infection avoid kissing people who have not had mono. Wash your hands well and don't share drinks, towels, eating utensils etc.
Hi, I was diagnosed with mono on Friday. I was very sick weeks before. I haven't been able to sleep, I try, and I can not. All of a sudden I have a weird rash, which started on my elbow, now is all over my body. Is that normal? Do I have something else? I feel fine, except weird things keep happening to my body.
The Epstein Barr virus that causes mono can trigger a viral rash, especially if antibiotics are taken. A rash can also occur during EBV if your liver is compromised. Drinking lemon juice in warm water, plenty of
fluids and liver herbs will support your liver.
For your sleep problems try some natural sleep inducing herbs like skullcap, hops or valerian. Magnesium and the B vitamins are also good.
It is best to have a check up with your doctor if you don't improve.
Hi,i recovered from Mono about two weeks ago. I dont really feel any different to how i did before it really developed. I know im not supposed to drink alcohol, and i know that in your profession you would normally advise against smoking cannabis anyway, but i was wondering if it could actually damage me if i did it to the extent that alcohol would?
It is important that you look after yourself over the next few weeks. The Epstein Barr virus that causes mono is a latent virus that can return if you are run down or stressed.
Using cannibas can be a stress to your body as you have to detoxify it from your system. Cannibas is said to have more cancer causing substances in it than tobacco! It can also cause nausea, vomiting, anxiety, depression and panic attacks. Along with alcohol it is not recommended after mono. Hope this helps!
Your doctor should be able to do a simple blood test called the mono spot test to tell if it is mono or not. There are also more comprehensive antibody tests to tell at what stage of the disease you are in eg acute, chronic or a mono relapse. Hope this helps!
I stayed for 1 week at the hospital, and than I needed to check almost every month, until 6 months after i left the hospital, my liver and my spleen. So I left the hospital in January and I was completly recovered in June. My platelets, instead of beeing at a minimum of 150.000, were at less than 10.000

What is glandular fever?
Is it a normal fever or re-occuring or ??
What does it mean exactly? Anyone can explain?
shahil101able 2 years ago
Hi,
Glandular fever is the same condition as mononucleosis.
Hope this helps.

Hi Doctor I want to know I was diagnosed with depression at the age of 13 now I am 31 and a few years ago I starte to feel very very tired that was mostly the only symptom there was no pain apart from scalp tendereness sometimes I go to the Doctor and they said that it just low iron and I take Iron at night about 3 pills of them but i still feel tired what do u think this could be
perlamaria30 2 years ago
Hi there,
Sorry to hear you have been feeling so tired.

Thank you for info, I had mono for 6 month
and now I get tired preatty fast, and also I hve cheels, but I have good day also, do you think it is the end?
I'm 42 Y.O. and afraid of CFS.
Consofdance 2 years ago
Sorry to hear you are still getting fatigued after your bout with mono. About 6% of people experience a recurrence of the symptoms for months or years after they initially contact the virus. It is sometimes reclassified as CFS if there are other symptoms like recurrent sore throat, swollen glands, headaches, poor memory etc. I would recommend you repair your adrenals with some magnesium, vitamin C, a B complex, a good diet and plenty of rest. Hopefully that will get you back on track. Elizabeth

I have just found out that I tested positive for Mono. This video was very helpful. Thanks.
zsz524 2 years ago
hey before you got mono like 4 weeks - 6 weeks before was your throat red? a little? i need to know because i may have it hopefully not
supdud7 2 years ago
The incubation period of mono is between 30-50 days. During this period the virus silently replicates in your body and symptoms like a red throat or feeling fatigued can start to appear. The only way to find out if you have mono is to get a blood test to diagnose the illness. The red throat can also be another virus or bacteria so regardless of what is causing it I would be doing a gargle with sea salt in warm water and taking some vitamin C, zinc and garlic. Hope this helps.

Hello. Thank you for this information.

Is that Ok?
awsedwer 2 years ago
Hi, Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.
Best wishes for a good recovery.

Ive been suffering from chronic epstein barr for 2 years!!
nese67 2 years ago
Also, he feels so bad just now with everything but is afraid he hasn't "hit rock bottom" yet - I don't think it can get much worse myself. How much longer could he feel *this* bad for?
sharnomac 2 years ago
Typically the acute stage of glandular fever only lasts a few days to a couple of weeks. From the symptoms you describe,
this is usually about as bad as it gets.
If he is resting his body, drinking lots of fluids and taking some nutrients and herbs to boost his immune system,
he should bounce back soon.

Does this mean that the pain killers he is taking are doing him no good?
sharnomac 2 years ago
Hi there,
The Epstein Barr virus that causes glandular fever targets the liver, and can cause nausea and vomiting.
Good luck

I would not recommend concentrated orange juice as it is high in fruit sugar which can affect your white blood cell activity. A better option is a freshly squeezed lemon in warm water. Lemon juice is low in sugar, high in vitamin C and very cleansing for your body.

also one more thing if a drink alot of consontrated Orange juice does that help

i have mono and my throat is killing me can someone help me what can i eat what can i drink
jordanMJK 2 years ago
Firstly try a gargle with salt and cayenne pepper at least 3 times a day. Do not try to eat any solid food. Have lots of hot soups and broths instead. A hot lemon and honey tea is fantastic.
Sucking on some ice chips and/or zinc lozenges can help reduce the swelling.
I would not advise using any aspirin as there is a very slight risk of
complications with Reye's Syndrome .
Vitamin C, zinc and vitamin A as discussed in my e-book can also help.
Good luck!
monocures 2 years ago
thanks. but one thing thats always bothering me is that when i wake up in the morning i have alot of mucis in my chest and i spit up alot of it does spiting up my mucis help?
jordanMJK 2 years ago
Yes try and eliminate the mucus from your chest. It is your body's way of cleansing the virus and toxins from your body.
monocures 2 years ago
Hi there,
White patches or pus on your tonsils is not always present in mono.
If your sore throat persists see your doctor in case it is a bacterial infection.
monocures 2 years ago
do yo u always get white patches or pus on your tonsils when you get mono or can it just hurt really bad?
arnoldgd84 2 years ago
Hi there,
These symptoms can also occur with a common cold or flu virus.
Good Luck!

Hi, I have a sore throat and a cough and my mom said that my left lymph node in my neck is swollen but not my right. Do you think I have Mono? I also have a stuffed nose
gotheman789 2 years ago
Yes Epstein Barr virus antibodies remain in the body for life. These antibodies can also determine if you are in the acute or convalescence stage or are having a relapse of mono.
monocures 2 years ago
Will the virus still show on the blood test even if you are not showing anymore of the symptoms of mono?

the video also mentions diarhea. So diarhea is also a symptom? Because i was having diarhea like stools or loose stools
arnoldgd84 2 years ago

Im just wondering if the lymph nodes under your arm pits can be swollen from mono coz thats what i had. please reply.

great info here thanks..i was diagnosed with mono july 08 and still now jan 09 am experiencing a minor warm feelings in my glands and neck area and still have weakness at times..the fever comes and goes. man when will this thing end??????????
vln1972 3 years ago
Since the Epstein Barr virus is a latent virus it can recur when you are run down or under stress. Most people show no symptoms after a few months, however about 6% of people get recurrent symptoms that can last months or years.
If this sounds like you, it is really important that you boost your immunity with nutrients like vitamin C, zinc and vitamin A. Herbs like astragalus and olive leaf can help, plus a higher protein diet with lots of water. Liver cleansing is also a good idea. Good luck!
monocures 3 years ago
i would like to know after you recover from this can you stil transmit it to other people??
saintsrowxPhil7 3 years ago
The Epstein Barr virus that causes mono is shed from the throat during the illness and up to a year after the infection. The virus can also become dormant and later reactivate and be shed from the throat again. In fact some people spread the virus intermittently for life.
If you know you have an active infection avoid kissing people who have not had mono. Wash your hands well and don't share drinks, towels, eating utensils etc.
Hope this helps!

Hi, I was diagnosed with mono on Friday. I was very sick weeks before. I haven't been able to sleep, I try, and I can not. All of a sudden I have a weird rash, which started on my elbow, now is all over my body. Is that normal? Do I have something else? I feel fine, except weird things keep happening to my body.
xrubyredx 3 years ago
The Epstein Barr virus that causes mono can trigger a viral rash, especially if antibiotics are taken. A rash can also occur during EBV if your liver is compromised. Drinking lemon juice in warm water, plenty of
fluids and liver herbs will support your liver.
For your sleep problems try some natural sleep inducing herbs like skullcap, hops or valerian. Magnesium and the B vitamins are also good.
It is best to have a check up with your doctor if you don't improve.
Regards
Elizabeth

Hi,i recovered from Mono about two weeks ago. I dont really feel any different to how i did before it really developed. I know im not supposed to drink alcohol, and i know that in your profession you would normally advise against smoking cannabis anyway, but i was wondering if it could actually damage me if i did it to the extent that alcohol would?
RainbowNigWolf 3 years ago
It is important that you look after yourself over the next few weeks. The Epstein Barr virus that causes mono is a latent virus that can return if you are run down or stressed.
Using cannibas can be a stress to your body as you have to detoxify it from your system. Cannibas is said to have more cancer causing substances in it than tobacco! It can also cause nausea, vomiting, anxiety, depression and panic attacks. Along with alcohol it is not recommended after mono. Hope this helps!

im not sure if i have mono or not but the doctor said it was a possiblity for me...helpful stuff
JackEffenBauer 3 years ago
Your doctor should be able to do a simple blood test called the mono spot test to tell if it is mono or not. There are also more comprehensive antibody tests to tell at what stage of the disease you are in eg acute, chronic or a mono relapse. Hope this helps!

I stayed for 1 week at the hospital, and than I needed to check almost every month, until 6 months after i left the hospital, my liver and my spleen. So I left the hospital in January and I was completly recovered in June. My platelets, instead of beeing at a minimum of 150.000, were at less than 10.000
