this is great thanks for the post. i faved it over 1000 favs ago so now its just easier to search it.peaceout..p.s break out the lambsbread,so sticky and nice
Maiden America! I found out about both bands in '81, and I think Riot was actually just as good as Iron Maiden. Saw Riot open for Saxon and UFO in '82, and they were just as good live as in the studio.
@jammer70s Dude I saw that tour also, and dig this. About 4 years ago I found my tour shirt from this show in the attic at my parents house and suprise - suprise it still fit and was in almost perfect condition. I still wear it sometimes and always have people make comments about it saying they can't believe its actually an original. I have to fess up though it isn't an official one, bought it out in the parking lot of Market Square Arena here in Indy from a bootlegger. Cheers.
"Listen to Maiden's '81 album, then listen to 1980 Sabbath and Riot. In '80, Riot and Sabbath were on the same level when Maiden were still in their punk/funk/sped-up-70s metal stage."
Punk/funk? You are a fucking idiot. This is the dumbest thing I've ever hear.d
Thanks for the upload hansichecker, , some great music here...It comes down to management for a lot of these bands. There are many talented bands like Riot that somehow got left behind by management and it should'n't have happened to them. These guys are just too professional and this band should have been as big as Maiden or Sabbath. What happened?
When these guys were touring in support of Fire Down Under, few bands had the guts to put them on stage as an opening act. Credit to those main acts who had the balls to do so because it usually guaranteed their ass getting blown off the stage.
Man i have been playing lead guitar for 40 years, these guys have it, glad i found it again we played this song as it came out, make no mistake, this band rules, screw motley, quiet riot, and the rest, these boys were bad to the bone!
@metalmaniac1889 Yep. Same era and sound. Shame that hardly anyone in the States cared at the time, while lapping up Iron Maiden's efforts (which were actually behind Riot in terms of a then-modern Metal sound).
Listen to Maiden's '81 album, then listen to 1980 Sabbath and Riot. In '80, Riot and Sabbath were on the same level when Maiden were still in their punk/funk/sped-up-70s metal stage.
On this song, I've always contended that this had the thickest sounding production of the early 80s.
@Shyuum Look, lad, I've been listening to hard music longer than you've been breathing air. If I want to lump hard rock and metal together for my way of looking at music, I'll do it and be fine with that. Sticklers for categorizing between the two just waste time. It's not as if I'm calling Barry Fuckin' Manilow metal! Who gives a rat's ass-its still killer music. "Nuff said...
I've been studying musical comprehension (also know as Music Theory) longer than you, I know what I'm talking about, I doubt you know what a dissonant chord is!
Good day pal, Don't bother with your next response.
@Shyuum And how does music theory really relate to whether an album is hard rock or heavy metal? I would expect it to be the technical side of music, not classifying this style of music, a pretty subjective topic to begin with. For what its worth, yes, I am aware of a dissonant chord. And what the fuck is a typically American response from what I wrote exactly? Aren't we getting a little subjective ourselves here? Good day to you, pal.
@Shyuum Not a problem, just some miscommunications. If we want to mention top flight hard rock from your neck of the woods, we don't have to look far-am I safe in assuming you'd be Thin Lizzy fan? For a little more bluesy tastes (no pun intended), how about Rory Gallagher (with Taste or as a solo artist)? Cheers...
cuz it is metal, jack ass. Hard rock is metal, I mean what's metal? Harder rock right? It's pretty self explanatory. Just like the AC/DC debate, sure it's labeled hard rock but it's still metal i mean god dammit it has the speed power and glory!
No it's not, AC/DC were and are still Hard Rock, 'cause they use power chords and consonances, unlike most of Metal bands who tend to use Diminished fiths and dissonant notes for their songs..
ALL of speranza's work w/riot was the best they EVER put out....nothing else came close to the balls out effort he put into his singing professionalism and talent! FknGuy4ever!
the ccds gut sings on are the bestto me funny thing i read about rhett forester is they say during a recording for some songs he would show up on time and hit it pefect on the first take no bullshit just like amazing every time.thta simpressive as shit. he might be ok but im hooked on the guy era only
@saint1160 yes i am 48 i grew up with it sabbath uriah hep and so on you what i am from europe i was in a record store looking for sabbath and there was a cd from riot called Inishmore it starts with a keltisch song with violins and the whole cd is even harder melodic (very) then fire down under wich i like very much
I completely agree with you. Guy was a great singer and very cool. Rhett Forrester was lame as were the other vocalists for Riot. Guy and Mark Reale were the heart and soul for Riot.
@evilived Rhett Forrester's 2 albums were AWESOME--especially 'Restless Breed'--but Speranza was amazing too...but now that Mark has passed away, it is a moot point--RIOT is not RIOT without Mark Reale--R.I.P. Mark Reale!
Great song. Almost sounds like it could have been on Thundersteel. Wait a minute, it IS on Thundersteel! No, wait, that's another song with the same name. *mind explodes*
This whole album kicked serious ass in early 80's and still does today! I remember I used to tell people about Riot and how good this album was...and they all would say.."you mean Quiet Riot?" That used to piss me off..I'd say "NO" I said Riot ! Damn...I hated Quiet Riot!
