Leona's version was the best out of three reality show versions : leona lewis, ruth lorenzo and fantasia barrino. This was probably my least favourite.
I'm not gonna lie...Leona sang it pretty...But, this isn't a pretty song...If you listen to the lyrics...Fantasia really captures the soul of the song. Leona's runs and tone did nothing for this song. The girl can sing though. But, you must be out of your mind if you think she sang this better than Fantasia. Fantasia owned this song. I don't know if it is the producers or her own choice of direction. I loved everything she did on Idol, and definitely would have kept buying and listening. This is a lesson to the audience that the show is just a competition, and a contestant who wants to win will pick winning songs. Fantasia did. I bought the first album, listened to it one time, and never again.
I agree with Simon on Ellen. I don't know what her Producers are doing with her. On AI she appealed to America. On her albums - she is being crammed to one small music audience.

This song, as most know, is from "Porgy & Bess," an opera (sometimes done as a legit musical). It was originally sung in a operatic manner, but jazz singers turned it into a jazz standard. Anyway, in the opera it is a lullaby that a mother sings to her baby. It is meant to be simple, emotional, and sung more subtly than this.

Honestly when I first heard this live I thought that it was the best performance to date on the show.
Since then there could be a few better, but I'ld still rate it within the top five. Really I don't care if she's beautiful, or not, she has a great voice, and a style that is both suttle, and noticable.

Summertime has always been beautiful, and Fantasia gives it the special heart and soul that brings it to a higher level than I've ever heard it before. I absolutely love her version. I could listen thousands of times and get goosebumps and shivers every time. This is definitely Fantasia's signature song.
Leona wasn't inspired by Fantasia at all. Nobody knows Fantasia here in the UK and I bet Leona has never even heard of her. Leona did her own thing with the song just like Fantasia did.
you need to understand that this was sung by Fantastia first on the "Idol" franchise. I suspect that Simon Cowell heavily influenced LEona's choice AND probably showed her this too.
Yeah Simon chose it but he wouldn't have had time to show her a video of Fantasia and why would he want to? Leona's version is different anyway. This Leona/Fantasia comparison needs to stop because they both sang it differently and both versions were good. It's down to personal preference as to which people like the best.

Honestly when I first heard this live I thought that it was the best performance to date on the show.
Since then there could be a few better, but I'ld still rate it within the top five. Really I don't care if she's beautiful, or not, she has a great voice, and a style that is both suttle, and noticable.

They're both equally talented but have different styles.... and i wasted weeks watchin x factor, votin for her, went into hmv and helped her single get to number one and i still havent heard anything from her...... should ask for a refund really... and remenber when u point a finger there are 3 pointin back at u... take ur insercurities elsewhere

I'm sorry, but her voice sends chills through me like fingernails on a chalk board! She screeches out song! Can't understand why she won in first place. But do note that her last CD failed miserably. Maybe people are getting past hype & actually listening to her VOICE!

Trust me, Fantasia has never released anything over here. I live here! She has never released a single or album. That list is compiled from all the countries but there won't be many copies bought from the UK I can tell you that.

Summertime has always been beautiful, and Fantasia gives it the special heart and soul that brings it to a higher level than I've ever heard it before. I absolutely love her version. I could listen thousands of times and get goosebumps and shivers every time. This is definitely Fantasia's signature song.

Leona wasn't inspired by Fantasia at all. Nobody knows Fantasia here in the UK and I bet Leona has never even heard of her. Leona did her own thing with the song just like Fantasia did.

you need to understand that this was sung by Fantastia first on the "Idol" franchise. I suspect that Simon Cowell heavily influenced LEona's choice AND probably showed her this too.

Yeah Simon chose it but he wouldn't have had time to show her a video of Fantasia and why would he want to? Leona's version is different anyway. This Leona/Fantasia comparison needs to stop because they both sang it differently and both versions were good. It's down to personal preference as to which people like the best.

I love Fantasia as much as the next however let it be known that this is actually a horrible performance. In the Opera " Porgy and Bess" Summertime is a LULLABYE!!!. she clearly did entirely too much and no baby would be sleeping after that
