  • genetical modification

  • Thank man as usual.

    "The Penn scientists said they were certain these chemicals were the problem. They found one bee with 35 different pesticides in it, so no wonder there's a problem." "

    Man shold be eradicated off the planet imo

  • man will be eradicated if we dont have more respect for nature sadly if we don't do something about this soon so will allot of other Creatures or is this being instigated ???? what ever the reason hardly anyone seems to be worried about this ,,,it is nuts the world is in a trance

  • That means it is not safe to eat honey. It may contains pesticides!!

  • Hi, I been worried about this for a while and have put together some information on web-site at bbec. synthasite. com. Things you can do easily and updates of the situation, as I think more people should know about this and how easy it is for them to help.

  • PESTICIDES are the most "logical" reason.

    Here's a simple sylogism:

    Bees are insects;

    Pesticides are meant to kill insects;

    ergo...

  • There are new theories that the rise in cell phone towers is causing this. As it is well known that bee lose their ability to find their food source near power lines. Unfortunatley I cannot post the URL to the articles.

  • There is no one cause of the poplulation drops. The last 15 years have shown 70-90% of bee populations dieing each year. I hear the cell phone towers thing all the time- and my eyes roll. It's really the old eco blame statment that is very difficult prove said by un educated. How about FM radio too? How about TV air waves, CB's? Cell phones use few frequencies, and that hz changes every few years. So are you saying the CMDA or another frequency is to blame? ATT and Verizon operate diff.

  • Good tip, NotTelling.

    That's a great piece that properly addresses the ecological side of things.

  • Head to celsias dot com and search for 'colony collapse disorder to find the post called 'colony collapse disorder - a moment for reflection'

  • Organically raised bees seem more resistant, perhaps because they are raised using natural-sized honeycombs rather than coaxed into an overly large body size thanks to "market forces" which are making a big mess of our planet.

  • The CCD problem seems to be like AIDS for bees. Afflicted bees typically carry high levels of many viruses and pathogens that they normally would be able to fend off with their immune systems, but something is destroying their immunity. It appears to be the varroa mite, or (perhaps more likely) the varroa mite plus something else.

  • I wrote a long article covering CCD. It's found here:

    And here is a really informative story from Spiegel:

  • Thanks for posting about this. Everyone should be VERY concerned and discussing cause/resolution.

  • If the problem is pesticides it seems that the problem would be less prevalent in urban settings without crops. It would also seem to suggest a particular pesticide, since the problem has sprung up all at once. The weather seems to me to be an irrational factor, since this is a global problem.
