Its a shame they didn't seriously play doubles (altho I recall Lendl did play a few matches with Henri Leconte - who seems to be his total opposite in style, attitude and personality). I just think that Becker and Lendl would have been a great doubles partnership.
What is amazing is that noone has posted lendl vs becker in the us open 1989. I have the entire thing. I would post it up but need to figure out how to burn to dvd then to pc and upload.
I have two Kneissl Ivan Lendl racquets and two Adidas Lendl racqeuts and the frames are the same, only the name and color is different. I love them. I wish I could get my hands on the Mizuno racquet he used at the end of his career. It's exactly the same as the Kneissl and Adidas, just a different paint job. There was a mid size Mizuno that I have that he used at Wimbledon but I want the same racquet that he's always used but named MIzuno.
I LOVE Ivan Lendl! I grew up watching him and imitating his strokes. All my shots look just like his especially his backhand. Anyway, Lendl was very good and dominated for a long time. He had to face some tough serve and volley players like McEnroe, Edberg, Becker and Sampras. That is tough for a base liner and he did it. I have four of his racquets, one which was actually his. I love him. The game has changed though, they didn't hit as hard back then as they do now. I miss those times.
Sorry but C stats are: 1225 - 272...Singles Titles: 105. For Jimmy the run was much easier as he didn't have to face the same group of tough players like lend did.
Connors has 109 Singles Titles FYI. And also, Connors played from 1974-1996 and Lendl played from 1978-1994....so i am understandably confused by your "he didnt have to face the same group of tough player like Lendl did"....puzzling indeed....
Regardless, their careers coincided completely. 15 years of them at least, and i was responding to the puzzling comment made by jeanhanz stating that Connors didnt "have to face the same group of tough players like Lendl did". Whether he played a full load of tournaments in 95 and 96 is irrelevant....as you will agree....
I've seen Sampras, Agassi and Federer play but Lendl is my favorite of all time. I have got to meet him some day since I never got to see him play. I sure wish you could help. I'd like to get the Mizuno racquet he used in place of the Adidas, the small framed racquet, not the mid sized that he used at Wimbledon at the end of his career. I sure wish you could help me!
I played college tennis with the Kneissel racket he first started out with. They actually made the frames for adidas, and then adidas just painted them. It was a great racket.
In l983 in Palm Springs Calif. Lendl sat right next to me to watch his coach play a match. He was 4th in the world and NO ONE knew who he was! I did a bit. I watch him win his match earlier and told him he was playing well. He said, "You think I'm playing well--I don't think I'm playing well..."
Lendl has been and will always be my favourite tennis player. Just a scary player on the court! Can someone post the game (I can't remember which year and who was his adversary) where he made lots of consecutive aces?
1984 Benson and Hedges Tournament Final, Wembley, London UK. Against Andreas Gomez. Don't know of any available footage but recall it well from the day!
Lendl took over from McEnroe but to say he's a "better" player than Mac, well..... I wouldn't say that. One more slam than Mac. He was a better machine than Mac though, more work ethic this is true.
And that's just singles. For Lendl, just where exactly are his doubles titles......
the point doesn't really start until 0:25 and ends 0:32

Common, Connors didn't play till 1996... You can't count years with one professional tournament played as a whole year...

Always loved the deceptive backhand :)

Lendl's backhand was excellent in every situation almost as much as his legendary forehand.

if lendl has all day to set up he can whack a backhand, but if forced into a running situation his backhand is shit.

To use this word to describe any of the shots of the former #1 in the world is fullish to say the least.

4 aces in the one game. Then Gomez hit one himself in the first point of the next! Lendl won match and tournament easily.
