The different ones are just different ways to get peoples attention. If they always use the same one people get accustomed to it especially in big cities where police are everywhere and then people start tuning it out.

From what I've seen, the wail (the first siren you hear) is for driving down roads with less traffic, then you use the yelp (the second one) as you start getting into traffic, and the quick one, "interceptor", is used mostly for clearing through intersections. I could be wrong but that's what I've seen.

At the 40 second mark, depending on the manufacturer, the siren is either called...Pierce, Hyperyelp, or Traffic Blaster. It depends on the manufacturer. This particular model is a Carson series siren in "hyperyelp" mode, with brief burst from the rumbler. Have a nice day.

Has there ever been any actual research on weather it's more effective to just let the automatic siren go continuously though its cylcle, or to keep pressing the manual siren? I would imagine that a continuous siren would be more effective, but some people claim that the manual siren is actually more of an attention getter. Just curious if there is any actual research behind this, or everyone just uses whatever siren sounds they personally prefer.
