Little story. At the end of the Milton Keynes gig in '82 when everyone was leaving, the chorus to this started getting sung by everyone around me. Quite a touching moment. One you never forget.
"Let us cling together as the years go by, Oh my love, my love, In the quiet of the night Let our candles always burn, Let us never lose the lessons we have learned." RIP Freddie.
The Japanese is the same as the English, although the Japanese is a little more poetic. "tomoshi" is like the fire that burns from within; not just passion but love and maybe even the light of awakening.
The chorus part sung in Japanese goes as follows: "手を取り合って このまま行こう (Te o toriatte Kono mama ikō) 愛する人よ (Aisuru hito yo) 静かな宵に (Shizuka na yoi ni) 光を灯し (Hikari o tomoshi) 愛しき 教えを抱き (Itoshiki Oshie o idaki)"
The chorus part sung in English is the rough equivalent: "Let us cling together as the years go by, Oh my love, my love, In the quiet of the night Let our candles always burn, Let us never lose the lessons we have learned."
this probably the song i want at my funeral....ever since i heard it played on a tv special of the concert for japan not too long ago, i fell in love when i heard it on the acoustic. and had to find the original :)
QUEEN RULES OF COURSE !!! DEFINITELY ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS. I remember I used to play this entire album quite often as a young boy. It's a very theatrical collection of songs. This one in particular is beautiful....however I always find myself playing the end portion OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It begins at 4:43......I LOVE IT just as much as I did as a kid.
when I was 11 years old I told my best friend that I would like this to be my funeral song...what kind of kid thinks of that! Happy to say that I am still alive and well and some things never change, beautiful song.
@freddiemercification I guess we should thank Roger John and Brian too.. :) Queen will never be the same without Freddy.. I certainly accept that.. D:

I heard this song first time when was 14.
This song's Japanes lyrics are so beautiful. I was very impressed.
And this song had supported me when my prefecture was heavily damaged by the earthquake and nuclear accident last year.
Queen's songs will protect me always.

SO:
Let us hold on to each other as life goes by
my love,
the night is falling
but light the fire that burns inside us
and treasure the knowledge that we have gained.

I'm Japanese. This is part of the Japanese words on this song.
I think this song seems like Gospel music. So I think this is the feeling of sacred songs. I love this song.

Maybe the softest song in the Queen repetoire. In all there other songs there always seems to be some sense of irony. But not with this one.
