I've watched countless YouTube and StreetFire videos, and I can only recall a handful (maybe 8 or 9) videos out there where I actually saw a Challenger win a drag race. I'm sure one day they [Chrysler] will produce a Challenger that will actually be competative for the price and actually put up good numbers in braking, cornering and acceleration. I love the new dodge challenger. I think it's an extremely beauitful & powerful car. But we got one serious problem & it's a big one. The damn car weighs over 4,000 pounds since it was based off the Charger platform. If it wouldve weight a ton less we would've seen some serious performance from this car. It wouldve ruled the streets any day of the week. They had to go & mess up a good thing. Somehow i'm not surprised.
@Starsky5000 It is actually based on the Mercedes E-class chassis and was developed as a true grand tourer with real back seats and a tremendous trunk. They left plenty of factory holes in all the right places for anyone to upgrade with no hassles. The Challenger was always huge and they retained that style and aspect of it.

I agree Srt8 is too expensive. Thats one of the many reasons Iam getting an RT. I bet prices will be coming down now that the new comaro is out with lower price though. Mustangs have been in production year after year, and now other companies like Chevy and Dodge trying to bring their muscle cars back, they just couldn't sell like the Mustang. The '80-90 Mustangs were having a ball in that era. They posted numbers like 265HP, while Chevy's 350 went down to 215HP ha.

I would like to see a video of a stock gt vs a stock rt. I have a mustang Gt and I would like to run against a challenger rt. The rf has more hp but it is 500 lbs heavier and weight kills performance. I like the rt though. I wish the rt was the same size and weight as the stang. If the rt was 500 lbs lighter it would kill the stang and I would own one for sure.
But you payed more i'd take the GT and the difference in cost and put it towards suspension and performance mods which would create an unfair battle because the mustang is modded but take a Roush 427R vs a R/t there closer in price and would be a more eqaul battle
On the Roush site, it has 427R parts priced at about $14K. This price plus the car bring the total at around $45K. This car is no match for the R/T. The 427R way out prices and out performs the R/T.
At $45K, you might as well pay a bit more for the GT500; I believe it comes with quite a bit more HP.

The gt 500 will outrun the srt 8 much easier than the mustang gt beats the rt. The srt 8 has a higher top speed than the the gt500, but that is because the gt500 is electronically limited to 155 mph and the srt 8 is not governed. Ungoverned the gt500 would have a top speed over 180 mph. A tuner can easily release the cars true top speed. Dont get me wrong though, the srt8 is a big bad ass muscle car and I like it. These cars are not green and Obama, and Al Gore hate them though.
The challenger is a nice looking muscle car but is too heavy. Mustangs have been refined and are light with killer Beast bodies. Ford is got it going on!

Of all the Challenger videos I've seen on youtube I've never seen the Challenger win in a race. All of them seem to get off the line real slow. It doesn't hurt my feelings though, because at the end of the races you can see the Challengers going quicker with less effort. In longer races, I think the Challengers would do much better. More efficient engines, better on gas, easier to maintain a high speed, and sick handling. That Mustang is a quick start but the new Challenger is the shiznit!

There's a '08 SRT8 on here with a stall speed, long tubes, and re-flash of the computer. I'm not sure if the combination was wrong because I thought they were supposed to run low 13's stock but this one ran 13:09. There's also another with the slapstick auto and that ran 13:70's. The owner said he didn't have the "slapstick" figured out.

Okay you need to get your facts straight. let us look at the 2010 Mustang GT and the 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8. The Mustang has 315HP and 325lb-ft torque. The Challenger has 425HP and 420lb-ft torque. The Challenger 0-60 is 4.8s. The Mustang is 4.9s. That doesn't seem like rape to me. In fact it looks like the Challenger needs to lose some weight.

You took the words out of my mouth. The Ford Mustang is probably the most successful vehicle America has ever seen due to how easy it is to mod them, plus they were probably never meant to be stock. Mustangs have been in production year after year, and now other companies like Chevy and Dodge trying to bring their muscle cars back, they just couldn't sell like the Mustang. The '80-90 Mustangs were having a ball in that era. They posted numbers like 265HP, while Chevy's 350 went down to 215HP ha.

I would like to see a video of a stock gt vs a stock rt. I have a mustang Gt and I would like to run against a challenger rt. The rf has more hp but it is 500 lbs heavier and weight kills performance. I like the rt though. I wish the rt was the same size and weight as the stang. If the rt was 500 lbs lighter it would kill the stang and I would own one for sure.

But you payed more i'd take the GT and the difference in cost and put it towards suspension and performance mods which would create an unfair battle because the mustang is modded but take a Roush 427R vs a R/t there closer in price and would be a more eqaul battle

On the Roush site, it has 427R parts priced at about $14K. This price plus the car bring the total at around $45K. This car is no match for the R/T. The 427R way out prices and out performs the R/T.
At $45K, you might as well pay a bit more for the GT500; I believe it comes with quite a bit more HP.

actually look up the torque and horse power before you say something that dumb. the mustang is one of the best cars in the world but the challenger rt would beat the mustang and the se model vs the mustang v6 the mustang might win. but ive seen a race where a shelby gt500 got the reaction time and the srt8 still passed it for a quarter of the race. yeah I actually did get the r/t part wrong so sorry dude. but I KNOW thatthe dodge challenger srt8 would own the shelby gt500 in the quarter mile. I actually think that if they made the challenger rt weigh 3800 pounds it would be like a whole showdown between the mustang and it. and just to let you know I would hate to see either the mustang or challenger go:)

The gt 500 will outrun the srt 8 much easier than the mustang gt beats the rt. The srt 8 has a higher top speed than the the gt500, but that is because the gt500 is electronically limited to 155 mph and the srt 8 is not governed. Ungoverned the gt500 would have a top speed over 180 mph. A tuner can easily release the cars true top speed. Dont get me wrong though, the srt8 is a big bad ass muscle car and I like it. These cars are not green and Obama, and Al Gore hate them though.

4.8??????.....1996 and up has 4.6 liters 94-95 and the fox bodys have 5.0 liters. the 94-95s and 96-98s were weak performers. in 99 ford put much better heads and intake on the gt much better cars. the 03-04 mach 1 very low 13s bone stock the 03-04 cobras 12.70s bone stock. 99-04 gt high 13s with a good driver. you have no clue what your talkin about just a mustang hater.....if you talk shit know a thing or two be4 you do. or you need up lookin like a tool......like you. have a nice day.

The new Challenger a damn sexy car... to look at. But it's heavy as hell. And I'm sorry, but "traction control" is not the same as having a posi. Even on the SRT8, a posi isn't even on the option list! They're all open diff. You haven't been able to buy a V8 Mustang WITHOUT a tracklock rearend since the dawn of the fox body era. It's standard equipment on all V8 Stangs. Just goes to show where Dodge puts their focus. They build cars for the Bling crowd. Ford builds for performance.

You're right, I stand corrected. This year, a posi is an option. High 12's are for the SRT8 though, 13.6 for the R/T. And for the price of the SRT8, you can order a base GT w/ a 550hp "Super Pack" blower pkg & the "Drag Pack" (4.10's, short shifter, headers, etc...), and completely destroy the Challenger.

Of all the Challenger videos I've seen on youtube I've never seen the Challenger win in a race. All of them seem to get off the line real slow. It doesn't hurt my feelings though, because at the end of the races you can see the Challengers going quicker with less effort. In longer races, I think the Challengers would do much better. More efficient engines, better on gas, easier to maintain a high speed, and sick handling. That Mustang is a quick start but the new Challenger is the shiznit!

There's a '08 SRT8 on here with a stall speed, long tubes, and re-flash of the computer. I'm not sure if the combination was wrong because I thought they were supposed to run low 13's stock but this one ran 13:09. There's also another with the slapstick auto and that ran 13:70's. The owner said he didn't have the "slapstick" figured out.
Sorry, but the regular RT is only running high 13's. There's a couple on here. Love the look but too heavy and dealer mark up. The 09

The supersnake is an upgraded Shelby though. Even then, the Supersnake only beat the Challenger by a second and only a few feet on the drag race. Not to mention the fact that they used the auto stick in the Challenger. If it was a regular Shelby, I think the Challenger would have won.

Okay you need to get your facts straight. let us look at the 2010 Mustang GT and the 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8. The Mustang has 315HP and 325lb-ft torque. The Challenger has 425HP and 420lb-ft torque. The Challenger 0-60 is 4.8s. The Mustang is 4.9s. That doesn't seem like rape to me. In fact it looks like the Challenger needs to lose some weight.
