  • I am guessing most of you here are avid readers. Would u check out this blog and may be leave him some feedback?

    rejojohn.blogspot.com

  • i love chuck palahniuk! I'm going to be making a tribute to him soon

  • disgusting, is he speaking at a school?

  • Huge influence. Awesome stuff! :)

  • @jsuglia

    That's weird. You troll authors.

  • I say this not to start a fight but to give you some insight and to help you realize you've made a snob of yourself. If you respond defensively it will only confirm you're still grasping the concept of you being a douchebag.

  • jsuglia, you have a better understanding of writing and the english language than most people do. I love the wit in all of your posts on Chuck's videos. I understand you can appreciate literature to a higher level than most people. It's a shame all of your posts couldn't demonstrate these characteristics you possess without making you look like an envious child. Get off your high horse. Ripping on another author via youtube comments? That's far from classy. You're socially immature.

  • you guys just don;t get it -- only a GOOD writer goes around pointing out how more successful writers aren;t as good as him. all of you are SLIME, only I WRITE good sentences

  • I think his writing is very well done. "Survivor" was a brilliant look at the education system, "Fight Club" was ground-breaking and wonderful, "Invisible-Monsters" wasn't my favorite but still surprised me, "Pygmy" is a fun challenge and unique, and I am about to look into getting "Choke."

The thing about his writing is that it's always new, each character is different and easily relatable, and it never get's boring. Please fuck off jslugia.

  • Palahniuk isn't that great. Want anti-heroism? read some Baudelaire.

  • why are you wasting energy hating

  • What a interesting guy. He has been one of the few people to make so called "Black" Comedy work for me. Most other comedians/satirists try doing Black comedy and fail at it. From the black comedy not being black enough or other problems ect ect, but reading Guts I Lol's multiple times and chuckled a very good deal more. Along with Choke.

  • @jsuglia

both of you should absolutely kill yourselves

  • @jsuglia What is wrong with Palahniuk's writing? Could you please elaborate without using the thesaurus function on your computer and yelling at the slightest spelling error? Frankly, you sound like a big-headed snob when you write your comments.

  • @jsuglia TRANSLATION: "Oh no! He's actually asked me to elaborate on my criticism! I'll just insult him! Yeah, that'll show him! Oh I am so brilliant!"

  • Comment removed

  • @jsuglia Why am I a maggot?

  • @jsuglia No, I am just wondering something. Listen closely, I'm trying to help you.

You can call out Palahniuk's writing all you want. You can call it terrible, there is nothing wrong with that. But when you are asked WHY you think his writing is bad, it is usually a good thing to have a valid answer. You so far, have presented no thoughts on why his writing is bad, you have just made statements that you cannot back up.

It's so funny reading your comments, because of how sad they are.

  • @jsuglia I didn't know you would even take time to write a review on Palahniuk's work. I'll check it out.

  • @jsuglia Read it. Once again. You bore me.

  • @jsuglia I understood it. Sent you a message about it.

Anyway, I'm done talking to you. This has been a waste of my time.

  • why is there a baby at a chuck palahniuk q&a? a baby and yet i couldnt make it.. cruel world

  • Keanu Reeves?

  • I think that he is a visionary genius. Hadn't he been one of the greatest writers of all time he'd probably be a serial killer... All our politicians should read his books (especially Pygmy) to open up their minds and lead us the way they should. Here's a paradox: he's a gleaming jewel in a decadent time.

  • I thought I broke myself the first time I finished. Seriously, I was like, "What the hell is this stuff?" Fine, whatever, it's more interesting when a famous writer talks about jacking off, is it? Well...I'm better at it!

  • i can give seminars!

    ahahhahahah

  • @jsuglia Fact: Suglias a bitch, and someone should kick you in your face,

  • You guys are unbelievable. That shit was hilarious.

    Fuck you all.

  • I've got a similar video on my channel. Chuck is amazing live.

  • I totally agree with what he's saying about writing characters that you hate. I'm starting to do that and it's really frustrating, but rewarding exercise.

  • couldn't care less about the masturbation part, but what he says about writing characters who say and think things that are, perhaps, in direct contrast to your own is really awesome. It majorly bugs when people assume that the character is such and such book is a carbon copy of the author. Fiction is all about exploring alternate lives as much as it ever was about representing true lives.

  • I'm a fan of some of Palahniuk's books, but he really killed that masturbation joke. It didn't take long before I thought, "Okay, I get it." ... but I guess you can't totally blame him since the audience laughs hysterically at everything he says.

  • That's funny. "Handful of cum."

  • Fucking T.V and movies ruined that first time jerk off, all persons off my generation knows about masturbating.

    Recycle your T.Vs

  • "I invented something."

    LOL!!!

  • i love this guy, his books are so good, choke and fight club changed my life.

  • i love how you can hear kids ther!!! fun 4 the whole family!sexually contracted terminal hepititis D!!! and a handful of cum!! awesomw video

  • MY FIRST TIME cumming was on the night of my twelve b.day, i knew what it was.. Is just like popping your own cherry. Or similar to a woman starting her monthly cycle.

  • I was ashamed the first time I masturbated....now I celebrate it.

  • That's exactly how I felt when I discovered masturbation! Haha!

  • OH CHUCK.

  • He reminds me of Ted Bundy

  • Chuck Palahniuk: worlds greatest anti hero.

    move over kurt cobain

  • @themgoodpancakes hahhaha

  • fuck cobain, yeah i said it. decent musician but IMO highly overrated.

  • You butthole. Nirvana is so fucking great, get their underrated stuff like Do Re Mi. I love it. But CKy is a great band as well.

  • The fact that the #1 comment on the #1 Palahniuk video on YouTube equates him to Kurt Cobain should probably tell you something about the majority of his fanbase these days.

Why not go the next step and compare him to Sid Vicious while you're at it?

After all, apparently every form of "transgressive art" is exactly the same to people like you. Just a bland corporate product you can buy off the shelf at Wal-Mart and bring to your book club and store next to your Nirvana and Tool albums.

  • Chuck is da man!

  • wonderful. ha and funny.

  • I had a lot of his books, well I was up to date with his releases, and now I got like 4 or 5 of em, I'm gonna rebuild my collection soon....DON'T LET PEOPLE BORROW UR CHUCKS

  • I have bought a bunch of his books, and they are slightly interesting, but other than Fight Club and a few passages from almost every book nothing is truly inspired or groundbreaking. He churns out good above average page turners. Are we talking Dickens? no. Sorry . No offense Chuck because I a m a fan.

  • mostly he goes for style and not content. maybe that's why you think they aren't groundbreaking

  • his writing style is an aquired taste

  • Yah, I can understand that, I'm just more into Algren,Selby Jr, Delphine Lecompte, Sedaris, Bataille- though I would rather read a book by Palahniuk compared to a lot of the modern day trash floating around- that is for sure

  • that man is fucking incredible i would give my eyes to write with him he just reinvented the american literature

  • i wish he was my english teacher

  • ive been reading his books for about two months and i love his writing style

    hes grt!!

    and funny 2

  • he's the most inspiring author ever :D

  • he's a god

  • Damn, what a mindblowing writer he is !

    Ha, invented masturbation.

    This man is brilliant !

    Fight Club's epic. <3

I wonder where he gets all these incredibly interesting, yet super random and unconventional ideas..

  • his family loved telling stories. that's what happens when you have a strange family. a lot of his life experiences speak for themselves, so he just takes that, and makes characters out of em.

  • My guess for why the ideas are so cool...is he just doesnt second guess himself, I mean really the reason his stuff is so cool is because we've all thought stuff like that, but never dared to do anything about it or couldnt really form the thought into words..which he does incredibly well.

  • lsd

  • He should do stand up

  • that was.

  • i heard his books are short stories, does that mean theres 1 book with all the stories in or do i have to get all the books separately?

  • Haunted is the only one I know of that is all short stories. The rest are full novels.

  • Stranger than Fiction is also a collection of short stories.

  • im reading pygmy, chuck is my fav writer, awesome sense of humor

  • just bought it today... you like it so far? i haven't started

  • i finished it, it was excellent, hated the end though lol

  • Ahhhhh!!!!! I'm excited!

  • He inspires me to not just think outside the box, but to live outside it

  • such a cool guy ! i think i'm the only person from belgium that reads his stuff,i've read all of his books except 'snuff'..he reminds me of Ellis, but i think he's better, and vaguely he reminds me of a modern Poe,but chuck mostly kicks the shit out of our society ,wich ,actually sometimes ,it deserves

  • god damn. i love his sense of humor.

did anyone get a little startled when actually seeing him and hearing him talk?

he doesnt seem the kind of guy who would come up with such amazing books.

but he is. oh god he is.

  • Holy fuck, that story was funny!

    Chuck, you are totemnic.

  • Who brought the baby? ;)

  • i really like fight club

  • chuck's my fucking guru!!!

  • no lol he just has a dark sense of humour lol. It's sorta like the coen brothers both have a dark sense of humor

  • Chuck Palahniuk make Brian Bendis look like Plato.

  • Palahniuk is my second fav author. Bret Easton Ellis is my favorite. But having two authors like them alive and working right now is really a great thing.

  • I've never heard of Bret, but Chuck is my favorite.

  • director705: you should check out brets american psycho, its a fun satire about consumer culture an a dark story about killing women:P

  • I saw the movie of it, it was pretty good.

  • The book is way better and funnier

  • Chuck Palahniuk

  • This man is a beast.... Hes my fucking guru, i think his mind is the aleph i dont know where the hell he has that ideas...

  • haha im reading haunted its soooooo good :] im gonna read rant next

  • Haunted made me uneasy because it was really interesting to visualize. I struggled though it, but I did it.

  • rant is amazing : )

  • Chuck

    Pal-an-ick

    palanik

  • the ending in Choke was weird haah how do you pronounce the authors last name?

  • PAL A NUK

  • It's like saying that pollen is icky: Pollen Ick.

  • strangely enough, i thought the same thing when i was little. when i read that in the book i was so excited cuz it was like, "i'm not alone!"

  • Fight club the only book i have read of his are the others any good

  • choke is great and funny, i just finished invisible monsters which is great too. not huge on diary.

  • Aw, I loved Diary.

But then, I love all his books.

  • lmao I love Chucky P!

  • Totally unrelated comments.

  • It is quite noticeable you've never been a teen in your life. We look for "irrelevant" in a world ruled by "sane" people, we are economic slaves just like you but our freedom is pure and intensified by our age, just because you don't understand or share our thoughts of what a piece of literature should be, you shouldn't be criticizing. before trying to offend us try being a "literature" person yourself, this way you should understand that literature is like most things relative.

  • Who forces you to watch videos about chuck? if you don't like it or just wanna get a generation pissed off at some anime-hentai freak that feels important by offending on the internet? If its so painfull then just go and watch your hentai stuff and leaves us alone. is it that hard?

  • You snoopy moron. Heh, anime-hentai freak? Those videos I tagged are works of art. BTW: Learn how to write you uneducated monkey.

  • Who the fuck are you? You should pay more attention to what Chuck says and youd be alittle better off. You obvioulsly know nothing you piece of shit go fuck yourself with your fucking conservative dildo.

  • Not only that.. you watch fucking anime. You really are a worthless fagget piece of shit. Wow you are a fucking queer.

  • Do you even know what you're talking about, you lil imbecile? You call hentai art and you dare question him?

  • You fucking moron. I'm not calling hentai art. I'm talking about what some guys did with the supposed "hentai videos" some other ape on here was referencing. Watch and understand before you open your chimp mouth because we are operating on two entirely different wavelengths and you have no idea what I'm even talking about.

  • Heh. Don't get your panties in a bunch, loser. Go get a fucking education and learn what real literature is, you illiterate fuck.

  • Learn how to spell. Learn grammar. Learn some new vocabulary. Learn the English language. You are only making Chuckie fans look WORSE with your clumsy, slack-jawed responses.

  • You're not allowed to like satire.

  • You're the one who just used a verb as an adjective! hahaha

  • God, stop with this trolling!

You come to this video every month.

We get it; you don't like him.

    Now get the hell off.

  • He's such a genius.

  • Get ya some Twain. Burroughs. Thompson. Really get in there. Chucks a fad man. Shock and awe if you will. That's me, as a fan of art. We all know art can't be judged.

  • I've read all of those you name-dropping semi-literati. Do you think Twain wasn't considered a fad in the 19th Century? Thompson in the 1970s? Burroughs and Ginsberg in the 1950s? Don't tell me that Junky and Howl aren't for shock and awe because they are. All artists must shock to survive. And if you want to cop out and say "art can't be judged" then stop criticizing someone who is obviously creating some good reflections on the 21st century shock and awe culture.

  • THAT had to be said. Stop posting stupid comments about people who are better writers than you are or ever will be. You're only hurting yourself.

  • that's a weird fact.

in fact, it's such a weird fact that i could almost swear that it's an opinion

  • What books should I be reading then?

  • I find these comments so funny. Because someone who criticizes a genuine, honest (albeit brutal) postmodern author actually does the following:

    1. Assumes people care what he/she thinks.

    2. Constructs one of the most unbelievably bad sentences I've ever seen (last time I checked "shit" was a noun, not an adjective)

    3. Presents incredibly dubious facts that are obviously fake (since when has a survey like this been conducted?)

and 4. Is just reacting to a once obscure author's sudden popularity.

  • depends on your perspective.

it takes a certain kind of person to like chucks books.

  • Oh! Are you working on some kind of novel that's better than his?

  • It had to be said.

  • I just want to know, what books should I be reading?

  • so far i've read magical thinking, running with scissors, and dry by augusten burroughs (not in that order you would need to read running with scissors before any of his other books to understand) and they are all memoirs AKA true stories...i've read survivor and choke by chuck palahniuk both very good. And if your interested in serial killers i can tell you a few books about that too...I LOVE BOOKS lol

  • i LOVE Augusten Burroughs. i have all his books!

  • As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner

  • You're lucky that in this country your allowed to have your opinion, however rediculous it may be.

  • Altered chicken. There are is no luck in this country. we are brainwashed and pretty ignorant given the illusion we are free. Well the vast majority like yourself.

  • he's so hot. i love him and his books

  • Lol. What a guy. AND great author.

  • Few people would talk this openly about such a topic (his "invention").

  • Chuck is really SOMETHING ELSE...he is talented and never for a loss of words!

  • i've lost all faith in my ability to gain new knowledge what should i do????

  • oops i'm a little retarded\=

  • i like the guy and as a writer,i remembered the first time to when i jerked off ,i was so glad and thrilled cause an older friend of mine was talkin about it and i said i did it too but i lied so i played with myself (and didn't realy know how to do it ) but i came and i was yelling like "YEAH YEAH I'M A MAN ! soon i'm gonna have pubes !!" i also was very disapointed

  • Yep, our culture of nihilism similar to the downfall of the Weimar Republic.

  • Interesting observation, though funny how we never see the end coming

  • what he said about picking a character that he disagreed with and made it a point to see things from their way raised his stock in my mind by ten fold.

amazing piece of advise for anyone trying to really understand a perspective. turn it upside down and see the merits in the opposing view. that thought is the cellar door of wisdom.

  • such an amazing writer. i just recently read "haunted" -- awesome book! the short story about the kid having his guts sucked out in the pool is the only short story i've ever read that's ever made me want to vomit

  • lol wtf? i gotta read that

  • haha i stopped reading it after that. but i love the rest of his stuff
