I'm all into healthy eating and totally anti-sugar. After hearing this segment of the interview, even if Paul is still my favorite Beatle, I think my admiration and respect for John has grown bigger!
As terrible as this sounds, and I don't mean for this to be taken the wrong way, but in a lot of ways I have become jaded to John's voice in this interview. i get a lot of comments on this series of videos and I am just used to hearing his voice and thinking nothing of it. But tonight, I thought, "This man did not have long to live. He would die that day." I guess the impact of his words just really hit me all over again tonight like they did the first time I heard them.
@NeilFraudstrong I was thinking today at work. That the people who talk about peace and prosperity for the people who are against war and coercion, dictatorships and bloodletting, like John Lennon, MLK, RFK and JFK. They are always the ones who get murdered and assasinatied. The people who espuse war and glorify it always live long lives. Thanks for posting, sad to listen to. But this interview makes me think.
@NeilFraudstrong Well, the world took him for granted! The man was the embodiment of art and its sad to see how music and the concept of being an "artist" has deteriorated to the bullshit kids have today! Justin Bieber and the assholes on American Idol are now artists???!!! How the fuck did America and the world make this bullshit accepatble???? THAT MY FRIEND IS THE GREATEST CRIME OF ALL
@NeilFraudstrong I'm not sure I'd use the word "jaded" ... since that would imply fatigue and exhaustion of John's voice, rendering one bored and apathetic towards the things he's saying. I feel the opposite when listening to him on this interview; I'm very alert and hanging off his every word.
I agree, I didn't mean that I was tired of it, but I suppose what I meant is that the significance of the audio sometimes escapes me as I perform my duties here on YouTube because I hear it so often. I don't consciously think about it being his last interview anymore, but occasionally I go, "Oh wow, yeah..." whenever I come to comment on these videos. I didn't mean for it to sound like an insensitive thing.
I'm just listening to this wishing I could shout at the screen and warn John about the looser that wants to end his life. Why did John's life have to end so soon!!!? >.<
If they ever invent time-travelling, I would travel back to the exact studio of RKO Radio, the exact hour when this interview was done, and tell Mr. Lennon NOT to go back to the Dakota, since theres an idiot waiting to shot him in the back...
@Daniel0889 You & I both do not know what the ramifications would occur if he were not to die...all is the way it is...whether it saddens you or I, or the world for that matter....his death was to occur when it did...perhaps.
@Daniel0889 Don't take this the wrong way but I bet John would tell you to try and live your life without useless fantasy and bullshit. Seems to me he was all about cutting through the bullshit in life. We all miss him and still can't believe how he left us but don't waste your time with thoughts about time machines because they don't exist. We can't change what has already happened. Life hurts. Sometimes it's unbearable. John's death is one example of that fact.
@094340 YES, you are right! The irony is that no one has murdered rap music and hip hop or Justin Bieber...and these unlike Lennon..the world never needed. Lennon's murder was a crime against humanity!
@mrfrogbutt1 thats because justin biever dosnt try to brian wahs his fans that he is a working class hero only to have his fans find out he is full of shit, being a beatles freak since i was 3 years old when i got older, i could see that john can sometimes be so full of crap, when someone becomes a god to us, it's a big let down when we find out their just like us- no better, worship yourself not rock n rollers !!!
@SuperFirewire1 Thats the dumbest answer I have ever read! Mark David Chapman murdered John because he believed him to be a phony. In reality its 99% of today's garbage is PHONY not John Lennon! Today's crap is just that, a bunch of bastards with ZERO talent whom numb the country with trash, lies and BRAINWASHING to keep the masses NUMB and complacent! Bieber is the leader in this brainwashing of America. Chapman should have skipped Lennon and waited for Bieber instead!
@mrfrogbutt1 Wow what a dumb ass you are "todays music is crap" lol yea I guess "john hiatt" is crap?I can name a million others who's music today is great -just because it isnt on the radio dosnt mean it's not around!!! Stop being like all the other old boogers let justin alone, if the younger kids want to like justin so be it. When i was a kid loving the beatles-zappa-tull -zz top and other- i hated it when the old people said "what kinda carap is this - you should listin to sinatra!!
@SuperFirewire1 Fuck sinatra - to me he was a old fart!!! I liked the beatles- the momkees- buddy holly chuck berry and so on, the old farts told me the beatles are garbage! So now many years later it's my generation crying the blues about justin bieber and how he sucks, " I say let the young kids listin to him and hanna montana- so what!!! God bless them.Your god john lennon would tell you the same!!! That zero talent you talk about, theres tons of great bands around! FIND THEM DAMM IT !
@SuperFirewire1 Who the fuck is John Hiatt and who gives a flying fuck! A million? Yeah right! Im very sorry you went from the Beatles to Justin Bieber! But if that's the voice of your generation-Good Fucking Luck Buddy
@Daniel0889 If you wouldn't mind, after you save John could you take a trip out to the Naval Base in San Diego and look me up to let me know wins the next 32 Super Bowls?
What does he know about working office jobs? Shuffling around paper, he says. He never had to work one of those soul-crushing and still stressful jobs so maybe he shouldn't talk about stuff he's clueless about.
@LVEMEDO What a ridiculous statement! How can a whole nation be responsible for one nutcase.George Harrison was very nearly murdered in England some years later(stabbed multiple times).Should we limeys be guilty for that?Take your medication fella.
God knows the Brits never do anything rash. Like that bum that tried to get Harrison. Just because one man kills another does not make all Americans guilty because an American did that. I guess that means because a white guy in Alabama is a bigot we are all bigots? Because some person is a Muslim terrorist all Muslims are terrorists? Get a life brother. Quit hating on the yanks and everyone else.
@mccartney2006 i agree. just because the guy that made that stupid comment is an idiot doesnt make the people where he comes from all idiots too. it makes him and only him and idiot, just like it makes Mark Chapman and asshole, not all of us "yanks" assholes.
Oh John. This world is evil. People choose evil. I hope God had a reward for your pursuit of peace in this world. Mark David Chapman you said that you asked Satan to give you the power to shoot John Lennon that night. He did. And then he laughed at you knowing he fooled you with his lies.
@NeilFraudstrong A pastor once told me that John had watched "The Exorcist" for the first time and he got so freaked out that he wanted to speak to a pastor as soon as he could. Apparently he did and they held up in the pastor's office for hours talking. I don't know if this is true or not but it's what I was told years ago.
@NeilFraudstrong I had never heard that! I don't mean this as a slight to him, but he didn't seem to show it. Probably because he figured it would hurt his career. Where did you find that information, just out of curiosity?
FINALLY! @ 3:20 you hear John approaching from another room. So 3 and a half parts of this 12 part or so "Interview with John Lennon" is really just with Yoko alone!
mind you, she said some great stuff about her relationship with John and about men-women relationships as a whole. I think she spoke with insight and sounded very real. Poor Yoko! I see what John saw. they sound very balanced together. God knows why it was cut short. We were victims too. Also I think about Chapman's parents!
Funny how Ft. Chaffee where chapman may have been hypnotized is never looked into.
The media does not even touch that area of chapman's background, media can only repeat the same old propaganda statiing time, place, bullets, assassin, victim.
He's right about the commercials and how they shove nasty crap down your throat to get you to buy it. It was endearing hearing how he kept Sean away from commercials, and keep him healthy and secure. God bless you John! He really was a good father to Sean.
Just hours before he was killed. Recorded in their office on the ground floor of The Dakota. And as these conversations are taking place, right outside the window that waste of space was biding is time.
this is great for us and history, but too bad he spent 3 hours of his last day on life speaking to reporters...I'm sure he would have rather been doing something else!
I find it really sad that the very day he is interviewed about his daily routine, is the last time he will even live this routine. Life is so unfair!!!!
I miss John Lennon terribly now. He just keeps your mind thinking when you sit down and listen to what he has to say. Even if it is as blunt as CHEESEBURGER!!
Also this just occurred to m since I watched Let It Be yesterday, but watch the Rooftop Concert. Paul and John are laughing and "in the zone" and everyone looks so happy to be performing and just being carefree. It's hard to believe that if you watch that you will go, "Wow, best friends having fun" and then you immediately go back to Paul and George's argument or Paul and John's rivalry and so on. I think in their heart they loved each other, but bravado got in the way.
Paul, George, and Ringo have all said that they all missed The Beatles in their later years and they said it was great fun doing the new songs for the Anthology because it was still like John was there with his voice in the headphones and stuff like that.
John also missed The Beatles terribly. Publicly, he would write it off as a bit of a boyhood dream which didn't really mean anything, but in private he missed The Beatles terribly and took great pride in it.
although i agree with you about being sick of yoko bashing, John probably wouldnt care, im fairly sure he hear so much yoko bashing that he became numb to it. as for him kicking ass, no, he wouldnt, that would be against what he stood for on 2 levels. he was anti violence, and pro free speech. and honestly, any true fan of johns would understand his love for being yourself and saying what you want. john most likely would want them to say how they felt about her than shower her in false praise
I believe 110% that The Beatles would have reunited had John not been murdered. I absolutely believe it would have happened, possibly in the mid 80's.
I accidentally came across video's related to the killing of john lennon. I was a young 19 yr old kid at the time, and december 8th 1980 is a permanent scar in my mind. Tho not really a beatles / lennon fan, i was so shocked by what happened on that day i will always remember it. To me john was a man who spoke his mind, just like i speak my mind. his fame helped get the message across for what he believed in. My favouite song " In My Life"
This is not necessarily true. Even Julian admits that they were getting closer and in John's next to last radio interview (also found within my uploads as the BBC interview) he mentions Julian several times and admits that he messed up there. He also mentions it in this interview several times..
Yeah, I heard those (and thanks for posting these, BTW)- but Julian talks very openly in an impromptu interview in 99 how he only even saw John "4 - 8" times after he left them when he was "3 or 4," and that those meetings were "difficult." He also stated that he was a fan of his music, but that as a father and person, he didn't have much respect for him at all (though he did posthumously forgive him).
Yeah, I have seen this video, but that video was filmed at the height of his animosity with Yoko Ono over royalties and inheritance so naturally he was really peeved there about a wide variety of things. Eventually, he got what was due to him (and even though to us it would be a fortune, compared to John's wealth it was a paltry amount), but he was very bitter about the whole situation at the time (and rightly so). So that could be the reason for some of his comments in that interview.
Definitely fair enough. I'm sure it was never roses or all that close between them, but I guess we'll probably never know the truth of both sides. Interesting stuff to be sure, and thanks again for posting these.
he would want you to remember him fondly for his music and his ideals
he wouldnt have wanted you to stomp on the ideas that he stood for during his life by spreading the same seeds of anger, violence, and hatred, that causes war, domestic violence, and even in his own death
Oh my God, I'm sorry but John seems sooo.... normal... You forget he's an actual down-to-earth human being. So sad. Was this actually the day he got killed.
It was recorded in the Lenono (John and Yoko's business arm) offices in Studio One (a four room apartment on the second floor of The Dakota) on December 8th, 1980, the day of his death. The interview ended around 5-5:30 and after part 16 he went downstairs, signed the album for MDC, and left.
@nunobits12 You are so right... I love listening to his thoughts on everyday life... His Aunt Mimi used to pretend that he was still alive, after his death... I know the feeling...
@nunobits12 Oh yeah man 100 percent truth. How easily one fucking stupid man can kill a legend only to show that he CAN do it. Sad. I wish if i was moved to that day, take a shotgun to make sure that i wouldnt have missed and shoot MDC before he killed Lennon.
I'm all into healthy eating and totally anti-sugar. After hearing this segment of the interview, even if Paul is still my favorite Beatle, I think my admiration and respect for John has grown bigger!

do it in memory of, my hero, John Lennon
i have a poster of him in my room to remind me to do everything i can to try and make the world a better place

STOP ALL THIS VIOLENCE AND HATE!!!
THAT'S NOT WHAT JOHN WOULD HAVE WANTED
he would want you to remember him fondly for his music and his ideals
he wouldnt have wanted you to stomp on the ideas that he stood for during his life by spreading the same seeds of anger, violence, and hatred, that causes war, domestic violence, and even in his own death

Oh my God, I'm sorry but John seems sooo.... normal... You forget he's an actual down-to-earth human being. So sad. Was this actually the day he got killed.

Yes.

John's talking here, and down on the street there's a loser waiting around to shoot him.
Fuck this planet, sometimes.

Your 100 percent right. Right now as we are listening to this. Mark Chapman is down there with his gun waiting to shoot my hero!
