In compositing software, such as After Effects, from scanned photographs. Photographs requiered retouching and masking (i.e. cutting out parts) in something like Photoshop.

I did things in part similar to this in Photoshop + Blender 3D. Look into Blender if you like, but i suspect would take much longer to learn than pure compositing software.
