Ha, I thought you were talking about the LRT extension for Virginia Beach, as all the above is the same for it. We would be using the same trains as Charlotte, how is the noise/congestion relief/public opposition?
@Ronsmytheiii The lynx line is very quiet and makes the same or even less noise then a bus. It currently has 21,000 trips daily, and the publics opinion is mostley go ahead with the UNCC LRT and Davidson commuter line but save the bulk streetcar for later. The UNCC line was cut back from I-485 and now will end at UNCC due to budget cuts, opening 2016, Davidson line 2018, and a 1.5 mile portion of the streetcar in 2015. The line to the airport and down Independence boulevard are on hold for now.

the service on this thing sucks, i accidentally buy a 1 way ticket and get a 50$ fine while other customers are running to the back to get off at the next stop so they wont get a citations
Beautiful...Way to go, Charlotte. I wonder how much of the city the LRT covers now?
Last time I commented on light rail in Charlotte, it was met with skepticism. I wonder if the sentiment towards the system has changed any since gas is so sky high right now?
I still want this in my hometown, gas prices are killing me.
hahaha I gree with you. To answer your question of the lightrail Its going good well at least I think so. I parked my car and onlyl take it to work when I need to. LOL,
bigben, they are also putting in a rapid system on the existing Norfolk southern "O" line running up toward davidson. That should be open by 2016

it only covers about 10 miles right now from downtown Charlotte to I-485 in southwest Charlotte (called the South Corridor).
they're working on a new segment that's going to go north from downtown, up towards UNC Charlotte. I think it's supposed to start service in 2012
