i do really love his sound though... this is a great use of good feedback. and idk what effects he is using but he is definatly puts his equipment to the best use possible.
oh man, just listen to the strumming after the climax(the 5 minute mark, especially 5:34)it sounds just like a piano!!! that pulsating is amazing too..
A digital delay pedal, with the delay at low settings kind of creates the tinny grating metallic sound. It's not quite the same but it's a good enough approximation. I think there's overdrive pedal and very little gain on the amplifier. You probably have to turn up the amp volume really fucking loud too.
All my favorite guitarists like Hendrix, sound like they're on the verge of destroying their equipment. Somewhere along the line mainstream guitarists became total pussies.
@leeharveyosmosis i definatly know exactly what you mean. i have a hardwire dl-8 that gets the tin sound on a low level. also certain guitars and fuzz pedals kinda give the rotating sound decently..of course not nearly as well done as this though. and very true, mainstream guitarists and their clean cut shit got boring fast.
kind of not my favourite Rapeman song ,but the minimal and desolate tone throughout is very affective. The subject matter seems to seep through the song, even causing the drum beats at 2.58 to conjure gun shots.I'll say truly onomatopoeia'c in this case.love it
@luckyphilster no, actually i saw one of(if not the only) guitars he used with rapeman, and it looked like a custom made guitar with two single coiled strat style pickups that were very spaced. there was another picture of albini's guitar arsenal and it consisted of mostly guitars like this+the aluminum necked guitars and a few weird ones. not a rickenbacker in sight, or any well known name brand guitar for that matter.
For those of you that don't know, Dwyer was a politician that was accused of accepting bribes and stuff for complicated politic-related shit, and he was risking 55 years sentence. He committed suicide in public, and in live television. I saw the fucking video. He shot himself in the mouth, blood raining down his mouth.
this song is fucking haunting. the lyrics contain quotes from his speech like "this will hurt someone" and "budd, dont"
Albini said it was also about a house he was living in, and him and his friends would laugh at the goofy shit that the former owner named Budd had left behind. Then he felt like kind of an asshole for doing so. I think that's what the "where do we get off?" and the lyrics about the funny hat are referring to.
All his songs seem to be based on fucked-up anecdotes, which is so much better than songs that are just about feelings.
@leeharveyosmosis actually, this song is about BOTH the house and the way what his friends would say about his items made him feel.. then the other half of 'budd - don't' is about Budd Dwyer.. epic song.
this might hurt someone.

apparently it's likely he shot himself so his family would still collect life insurance. after reading that I was pretty convinced of his guilt.
