Are you sure it's a wedding and not a funeral gathering ? perhap the music is symbolic of the seriousness and sacredness of a wedding...honor and respects is everything to the Japanese. They will commit harakiri and sepuku, spilling their blood and guts on your front door steps for honor sake.I tried not to offend the Japanese...they take things so seriously.
Definately a wedding. They do take marriage pretty seriously. I guess that it is not seen as being the happy end that it is promoted to be in the West. I am not sure how anyone can take the notion of wedding being a happy end seriously, but then, Westerners do take it very seriously.
The Japanese wedding music is very weird,it's eerie and fear inspriring.Frightful if you ask me,it's supposed to be the happiest day in ones life, but instead it sounded as if somebody died. It's sounded so sad and depressing. Why married if not for love ? and if is love than what's with the boo-hooo-hooo music ?? play some happy music mate,it's a day of celebration and rejoicing...i don't know,i just find it rather odd that such a sad tune is being played on such a joyous occasion..
By the way and by curiosity, What do they think nowadays about samesex lovers that choose to marry? And what about Christian woman priests? Thank you Timtak1. A beautiful wedding day!
In my opinion...Marriage did not really exist in Shinto. The ceremony was invented to counter that provided by the post meiji surge in Christian wedding ceremonies. To be wed in Shinto was to have progeny.
If same sex persons were to adopt, then perhaps yes.
I don't know about Christian woman priests but there are a few Shinto woman priests.
Most Japanese do not consider themselves to be shintoists and those that do are sometimes part of more culty-groups, such as Kuruzumi-Kyo.
But Shinto is rather ingrained in the Japanese way of life, such as in troubled-time shrine visiting, new-year festival, and veneration for ancestors (which is regarded as Buddhism, though the Buddha had little to say about it.)
Japanese people are shintoy whether they like it or no. Just as Westerners are influecned by Christianity.
Not to say that all Westerners are Christians, but belief in: human rights, the importance of parent-parent romanticky love throughout marriage, or at least that parent-parent love is as important as parent child love, progress and the future, taboos on sex and nakedness, belief that mind is more important than body, belief that minds exist independent of others, belief in the goodness of truth, rejection of contradiction, preference for altruism over exchange, may be Christian in origin.

What is a cult?
