  • if god would have a voice he would sound like Sam Cooke ....

  • Because black artists benefitted from the white dollar, many struggled to balance the need for economic individualism with personal beliefs. From the necessary ambiguity of his early songs which needed to placate the white dollar, to the increased strength of the civl rights movement, the change is evident. This is an overt message to the people of the world and musicians like Mr Cooke did as much to break down the barriers with the univesality of their music as the civil movement. Brilliant man

  • If you consider the lyrics in many African American songs from this period, you can sense the change Sam refers to in this song. His early songs had deliberately ambiguous lyrics. Take 'Wonderful World', on the surface it's a simple boy/girl song, but if you consider the opening lines from the point of view of African Americans it's a different story. They were denied their history BECAUSE of the biological justification for slavery and segregation.

Now try Ben E. King's Stand By Me...

  • This song belongs to this Voice, to this man.....

  • This song will live forever. To bad you didn't. I miss you Sam.

  • This song more than any of the civil rights song. Inspired many to get involved in the civil rights movement. One more thing it should be used today. Because this President is trying to change this country, or set it on the path for change. And there are those who do not wish to see, the status quo change. But like the song says. A change is comin. Now stand in the way and get ran over or..... be part of the change, Up to you!

  • youtube singers are murdering this song in record numbers..lol Sam Cooke was one of the best vocalists this world will ever see. Amazing.

  • How do you people form opinions on things when you can hardly communicate. From what I can understand of the comments on this video you are arguing if it important that Obama is black. Now, I don't care if you are black or if you are white. What I do care about is people who fill up a video's comments with irrelevant banter. This is Sam Cooke man forget about it. He has been dead for a long time and has nothing to do with Obama.

    Knock 'em dead Sammy

  • Thank you for posting. Thought I'd lost this. It's such an anthem and a classic.

  • shabazz should write a book. it would be in the first person and the only character would be himself.

  • If you do not go and vote after watching this video, then do not complain when your candidate does not win!!!

  • awesome video

  • some people r getting it twisted. you are dumb if you think that as humans we wont ever notice something that is unique. are you saying that he shoudl not be recognised by his racial heritage? thats not the message of changem, the msg of change is that regardless of color, it woudlnt be a hinderance. right now in this world..IT IS still a hinderance, and obama's success will be seen as one step in breaking this. so dont be silly and say i shoudl not notice that obama is black, im not blind nor u

  • The message below was supposed to be a reply to chamber84

  • The comment below is to "veggiejude"

  • Sorry for the delay, I didn't see it your post until now. Noone has all the answers but knowing ones current limitations is the first step to overcome them. You said that you don't truly understand and never will. Well I disagree with u, u might not understand today but anyones the honestly wants to can truly understand. The reason being that we're not talking about rocket-science here. We're talking about basic values like equal rights and justice. For everyone regardless to race.

  • we all want obama 4 a good cause its time 4 a change no more than ever louisiana native

    we need obama god bless

  • OBAMA!

  • Have you ever heard Leela James version.....

I can only say this much, and that is that I have heard it more than 30 times on repeat today on my iPod!

    FANTASTIC!

  • syesha!

  • It's a beautiful thing to see people of all races come together with one common goal in mind. CHANGE... Not just change for your people or my people but all people. Thank God for all his mercy and Grace.

  • spine tingling and moving, feel the hairs go up on my neck. Sung with real feeling

  • love this song...

  • this was recorded just before his death.

  • You must be young and dumb. If you educate yourself and get a well paying job; some day your frame of mind will change.

  • ne body know who the drum and bass remix of this is by? heard it tother week its heavy

  • get a life

  • sam cooke himself was scared of that song. he told his family and friends that when singing or hearing that song, he felt death. he probably played it less han 5 times in concert. sadly, he died before its official release. rest in peace sam.

  • I want to ask Mr.Obama when he does become Predisent when he play this song by Sam Cooke (A Change going to come) on his first night in the white house play it loud and proved for all the everyone who fought and die for this day to came....

  • We made history last night. Barack Obama became the First Black Democratic candidate. This is the day Martin Luther King, Jr. lost his life for. It was all worth it. It has been a long time coming....Thank you Jesus

  • I'm with you in celebrating Obama's achievement but I think MLK wanted the color of your skin to make no difference. He should be elected not because he is black, but because he is the right change for everyone.

  • The 1st thing 2 do as a supporter of justice is 2 strive that the oppressed no longer r oppressed thus that the oppressor stop oppressing. Statistics will let u know that the majority of the oppressors r white n the majority of the oppressed r black. However I'm personally skeptical about Obama's strenghth 2 really make a genuine change. If he had that strength then he would've not come so far so smoothly. If any change'll come then it'll most probably just be minor and cosmetical changes.

  • Slavish mentality is deeply rooted in far to many. As Bob said emancipate yourself from mental slavery! You are exited about the fact that there is a black CANDIDATE!? He's not even a prez and you're thanking Jesus? And even IF he actually becomes prez, that isn't a purpose of its own. A change is really needed, will he deliver it? When that happens and you realize a difference, when poverty, incarceration, lack of access to higher education is no longer related to race, then a change has come!

  • @chamber84 Not to be rude or anything but Martin Luther King Jr. lost his life for allot more than a black president . MLK wanted more out of the world and it wasn't only for blacks to prosper . It was for people to prosper . It was for everyone to be united as one . He wasn't for blacks , whites , or any other race . He was for people and a better world . Like I said before not trying to be rude , but people need to know what MLK Jr. stood for .

  • @jacobwlynn Bless you for saying this. MLK was a man of peace like Gandhi and other great people like him. He wanted more peace and love. I pray that people remember this more. MLK wanted the world to be full of good men and women who cared for each other.

  • @vagapoeta I am overwhelmed with the desire to comment on these comments because I think people forgot about our history and what blacks went through at that time and the time before that. Yes, MLK was for peace and a better world, but at that time he was a voice for a people who did not have a voice. He was a leader. Someone who they could look to for strength. How dare any of us try to water down that positive influence that he had on black people. Its rude He lifted up the black community

  • @jacobwlynn As true as that may be. MLK also became a symbol. For blacks at the time he became a symbol of strength in a world where blacks were viewed in such a negative way. This is what made him stand for blacks because they were the ones who were oppressed, but he pushed equality and not black rule. Therefore, having Barack Obama as black President is a direct result of what MLK died for and to not give him credit for that is being rude whether you are trying to be or not.

  • @jacobwlynn THANK YOU,SOME PEOPLE LOST SITE .M.L..K WAS FOR THE PEOPLE NOT FOR ONE RACE

  • I must stop crying whenever I watch this! It's my song of the moment. Congratulations to Obama and his supporters. x

  • wow this song is sooooo Powerful . just sent chills down my spine and this video is very very very emotional

  • Great, i love that song, let me say in kurdish:

    biji Sam Cooke

  • and look where we are now.. the true crime is not the evil deeds of man it is the willingness of the masses to do nothing, for silence is complicity.

  • awesome song, has so much power for other oppressed peoples like Palestinians, indigenous people, etc.

  • well down man i got chills up my spine, a shame how we as in blacks have been treated but we have come a long way im so thankful for strong black leaders that made it happen

  • this song touches me every time i hear it. i cant imagine anybody hearing it and not feeling anything...and great video!!!

  • This song always makes me cry. It is one of the best songs ever written!

  • This man is a genius. Moving, he captures an age and a time and a beauty that's indelible and the hardship and the tragedy and the heartache of life but also the hope and the power of men to live and fight for love and happiness. A true artist and piece of art himself; a soul that comes once in a century.

  • A few words that is well said!

  • I didn't mean to disregards the race issue, which is still and ever so present. I was looking at those who are in control of world economics, banks and great corporations. Who own/steal a country's resources, be it african, eastern or european. In the end, they are the root of evil here. We have to get to the source and end it there. Introduce real democracy, stop warfare and feed and help the world. Those in control don't care about anyone but themself.

  • I am a white English woman in her early 50s. This song moves me to tears & the video is inspirational. I still find it incredible that during my childhood, black people were treated so inhumanely. Separated, simply because of the colour of skin!! A previous comment says black people were afraid of the white man, but I have a feeling the white man was also afraid of the black man. Had I been older & more able to understand, I would have marched & acted for Civil Rights.

  • Veggiejude, let me comfort you. Not much have REALLY changed for the better since then. For instance, we still live in a soceity where we have more african american men in jail than in college. Picture yourself that that would've been the case amongst caucasions? What would be done then, and why is that not been done now? Well, since you are older and more able to understand today, there is nothing stopping you from acting, or is there?

  • Many thanks for your reply. I'm sure you're right in that not much has changed. I also think that no matter how I try, I will never truly understand. I have thought about what you have said to me & I'm not quite sure what to do. It's all very well me writing but words are often cheap & action is what counts. Any bright ideas. I look forward to your reply or anyone elses for that matter...Judith

  • It's not so much a race issue anymore. It is the United States against the rest of the world. They destroy democracy, invade any country who's government doesn't coincide with theirs. The corporations are privatising everything God put on this earth for us, the people.

It's people all over the world who suffer under the reign of this global government, that steers the USA too, who need to GET UP! Get organized! Throw these governments from their position!

  • I don't get it, why is the race issue such a taboo? It's like ppl rather deny the fact that it is amongst the african ppl that you find the most outspread poverty. That doesn't exclude poverty to us but nevertheless it is amongst us it it most outspread. Whether its amongst africans, african americans, african latinos or african caribbean. And the more caucasian you are the less are the chances of you being inflicted of poverty. No how would that NOT be a racial issue?

  • Gotta say though that MLK jr is overrated. What did he really accomplish? Has it helped anybody that we now can sit in the same restaurant or in the front part of the bus? Naah, to hell with those crumble pieces, we deserve what's ours. 400 years and we still haven't been aloud to be part of managing the resources which has been built by our backs. Sitting by the table doesn't make any sense if you're not aloud to eat. Nah, we need to stand up, demand what's ours and go eat at our own table!

  • This country has come a long way with change but it still a little ways to go. I work in the law enforcement field and i really don't think i could have done it back then as a hispanic person. We as people need to realize this we must all get along and make this country what it was meant to be free and equal for everyone!!

  • thank god the times are starting to change.

  • YOU GOTTA FEEL THIS IN YOUR BONES

  • i love this song. hard to believe people were treated so badly. thank god for MLK JR and other leaders for equal rights. Tracy Chapman sang this song on a motown special years ago. can't find it though.

  • this should be Barack Obama's theme song Go Barack'08 !!

  • This song is so moving. The video was awesome and should be viewed everyday.

  • Very nice, I wish the video could've lasted longer. We as black people really need to wake up. Back then we were afraid of the white man, now we're afraid of each other. We have to grow as a people, and stop our nonsense. Peace my brother.

  • It's been a long time commin but a change gonna come yes it will.R.I.P MR,COOKE

  • Sam move's your soul for us Martin and Malcolm

  • awesome

  • i kinda of cried, this brings back memories

from the movie Malcolm X, i really like this

song it is symbolic and genuine

  • One of the most POWERFUL songs ever made period!

  • I pray that a change comes soon. I just lost a brother to crack cocaine. Does anyone understand how it feels to lose a loved one who was so full of potential? Now he's gone...all because this country makes a living from the drug trade and by oppressing Black people. I'm only glad because at least he's at peace with our ancestors and will be able to guide the next generation to do the right thing.

  • respect

  • What a beautiful song. I remember it being used in the movie Malcolm X in the scene right before he is killed.

  • i almost cried

  • I must say that you spelled change wrong.... It is not chane....

  • you idiot he spelled change right
