  • best thing i can advise all of you younger guys is to be patient, persistent, and adsorb all of the knowledge you can about the science of bodybuilding. i weighed 120lbs when i started and have averaged a gain of about 8lbs/year since that time

  • @gcblystone i liked this answer, 8 libs a year of muscle, is very good, u dont have to gain 20 pounds in 6 months. If u gain 8 a year, and u keep training, in 2-3 years you will look awesome and healthy..

  • dude, I'm 16. How do i get like that?

    I use 10kgs and have a training program which works the back, triceps biceps, chest, tris and forarms (On a different day each) but i am finding it hard to gain the huge size and definition. I also each a lot of chicken.

    Help please.

    also, great definition all around, though i do suggest training your obliques more. with your body type, it should create the illusion of a more defined waist, make 'em subtle, and they should go far.

  • i got into lifting at home everyday (and running several nights per week) when i was fat at about age 12/13. joined a gym and soon got into powerlifting the summer after freshmen year of high school. i had just wrestled, at a weight of 119.

    1 year ago I was 152 at 6'2, I bulked up to about 195-200. Now Im in my cut stage, trying to maybe go down to 180 or so, need to get my abs visible.

  • hey man,forget the 6 out of 15,concentrate on the 3rd,,here in the uk,politics come into judging,area,gym,ect, your lookin good and dont follow any new advice so close to ur day man,keep up the hard work increase the quads a touch,keep focussed youve got all the tools,just refine them a little,its all in the diet,the mind, ur shape is ready to tweak so dont be dispondent mate.build on ur focus usin the 3rd,good luck and keep posting.

  • thank bro, i really appreciate it. i have faced a lot of personal issues in the last few years (since my best ever conditioning, and winning) but i think things are coming together, priorities and understandings about what it really takes to succeed. i've had some harsh lessons in work ethic recently.

  • i do best with 1.5 grams per pound during contest prep. i carb up only when needed, which is maybe once per week. clean carbs and maybe a piece or 2 of fruit in the early phase of prep

  • started lifting 13 years ago, bodybuilding 9. in the past i did not do a lot of cardio but I drop so fast on no carbs that i didnt have to. going to be doing things differently next time. i'm already doing 5 am cardio for the first true time ever and i havent even decided on a show

  • terrible. i followed some new advice on the carb up going into the show and it didnt work. got 6 out of 14 or 15 there. probably the most competitive show i have ever done. got 3rd at the other... long long stories, but both shows had drama and overwhelmingly stressful occurrences in the day or 2 before. stress destroys a physique in seconds

  • thanks man. the answer to that question is so multi-faceted and individualized. train hard, train smarter rather than harder when applicable, and eat, eat, eat. thanks again. here's my current routine:

    SAT: Quads / Calves

    SUN: Chest / Lats / Rear Delts

    MON:

    TUE: Hams / Back

    WED:

    THR: Biceps / Traps / Side Delts

    FRI: Triceps / Front Delts

  • I don't see what the problem is. I work out too and have often been critiziced for the same reason. Getting a "decent looking" body is not an easy task. It takes a lot of effort, time & dedication, so why not showing off what one has busted his butt for? If a chick wears shorts or mini-skirts 'cause she has nice legs or unbutttons half of her shirt 'cause has nice tits it's ok. But if a man wants to show off what he works for, it's wrong? Not fair.

  • Well, i like to start with rope pressdowns to warm up the triceps and elbow.

    Then, dumbbell overhead extensions work the long head of the triceps most effectively due to its attachment site. I also try to do at least one single-arm exercise each workout.

    it is hard for me to power lift any more, I moved away from my fave gym and now it is almost 1 hour to get get a to the nearest good gym with out yuppies jabbering in my ear on the tredmill when I am starting my cardio...LOL I still have some home gym stuff, but after the age of 25, you will feal like your falling off, stay with it, dont be like me..I am sad at what has left me

    I am 5'5 without shoes, 25 yr old, been lifting for 13 years. I competed in powerlifting for 3 years before my first bodybuilding show, and twice since then. Checked out some of your vids, lookin' strong, keep up the good work! You always train at home?

  • I started at 14, around the same young age. 5-5 is an advantage I think for powerlifting, or BB a little too. My arms are stuck at 17", guessing yours are probably around 18-19" At 6-1 it's hard to have arms look big, plus long levers are tough with heavy weight.. I truly admire your accomplishment already at 25. Thank you for your response, to me that indicates a good man with a good attitude.

    Train at home since I moved, no convenient gyms. I have a lot of good equipment anyhow.

  • I will go heavy on occasion, but I don't feel that it does much for my triceps compared to other parts. I like 10-15 reps and tricep supersets. Try to find away to train your legs, the body tends to grow as a whole. Do a set to failure on leg extensions in the top half, then go straight to leg presses or squats; don't need as much weight to get a high level of intensity. best luck!

  • Good luck with the weight training class! Focus on the mind-muscle connection, and don't worry about the amount of weight. Injuries suck and they will never disappear entirely. All my injuries occurred around age 17, from powerlifting.

  • Thank you! I train on average 4 days per week.  Currently, I am only taking True Protein, Muscle Milk, and Mega Men. At other times I will use a half serving of Cell Tech or some other form of creatine, BCAA's and Glutamine.

  • depends on what style of training i am doing at the time and with what frequency i am hitting triceps. in general, i prefer less than 30 min per bodypart

  • left arm is developing much less than the right. I look like a bit of a goose with a noticeable difference in my arms.

  • can my right arm afford it? I think my form might be much better with my right which is the cause of the difference. I've taken a week off unfortunately and my muscles are already shrinking, any more time off might cost the mass of my right arm.

  • My left bicep was at one time a half inch or more behind my right. I did a few sets of about 10 reps on non-arm days, and focused more on single arm movements on arm day. The left caught up in a few months, then passed up the right and has been a little bigger with a slightly better peak ever since.
