now, i know why neil peart never smiles... concentration very important... especially, this kind of drumming method... excellent skills, as always... Paulie :)
@swcballa I think I saw on one of his videos that they are. I know he said the he doesn't use Zildjian, and I think he said that they are all Paragon's.
Nice Job Paul!! I really enjoy the resonance of your kit, excellent work, excellent style. 5 Stars my friend. You capture the spirit of Neil. "The spirit of the Radio" as it were :P Love your covers. Keep up the good work.
Paulie I have to applaud you on this take, what you accomplish better than anyone else I have seen on YouTube is to capture the spirit of Rush songs and of Neil's playing, building up the intensity through the song. The kit is sounding great as well, very open and resonant. Watching this just makes me want to get on the kit right now and start playing, so I would say mission accomplished :-) Thankyou and keep it up.
I really enjoy your drumming. You are simply a wonderful player and great reminder of what a bonus it is to have Neil on the planet. Great work Paulie
unfuckin believable man! every time i see a video of yours i get reminded of what a GREAT drummer you are my friend. amazing. i love your work man! keep it up and post more and more from rush!
Well, co-incidentally, we are working THIS very song into a setlist as I speak, so maybe I can talk my buddies into doing a video. It'll be rough, but maybe give you an idea of what we are all about.
watch some of my instructional videos. I smile in those. While I'm playing, I'm in full cerebral chaos and I can't waste precious brain power putting a smile on my face. To tell you the truth, once I started performing in public, I had to train myself to NOT do the Michael Jordan 'tongue-hanging-out-of-mouth' thing. So I just decided that deadpan would be best. Believe me, I'm enjoying myself. When I play with my band, I smile a lot, but then, we're not playing hard stuff.
Best performance on this song yet! Finished juuust a little ahead of Neil on the very last fill, but everything else was absolutely right on the money! And I enjoy the new extreme tightness in your playing very much!
I'll be picky and say that your hi-hat was a bit annoying because a little too hot in the mix on this one. And frankly I don't really like its tone (even if it's a Paragon). I guess it's a matter of personal taste...
Regarding the last fill -- yeah, I kind of ran out of drums - LOL. I'm still adjusting to the new setup. I think the reason the hi-hat sounds different is that I was futzing around with the eqs and I sort of left a little bit too much high in there. I did some recording with it turned down and it was basically absent, so I'll have to try to strike a happy medium on future recordings.

is very interesting here in Brazil we see the people out there with equipment
edge like you. The sound really good, and his fantastic kit! For I have
a kit of cymbals like yours here in Brazil I would spend 10 to 15 thousand reais,
that would be 6 to 9 thousand dollars. Congratulations!

Nice - I'd love to see you and your band play with your band on YouTube. Tall task, I know, but that would be cool.

what mikes do you use and what mixer? and how do you find all your drumless music tracks?
readme60 2 years ago
He doesnt find drumless tracks, he just is so perfect, (in my opinion) it just sounds like Neil.
megafanmilwaukee 2 years ago
I don't have drumless tracks. I just try to play exactly what Neil is playing at the same time and bury him in the mix.
