Mears is a nobody compared to Bear Grylls an absolute nobody! What has he ever done? Bear Grylls has done so much in so many different conditions- with a team and on his own. Mears has no personality whatsoever and very little enthusiasm. He could learn a thing or about keeping in shape from Bear to!

Ray has his own outdoor survival school called "woodlore" set up for 25 years by him when he was about 18 yrs old, he has also travelled to many places, to name a few- Australia, America, Canada, Africa, the Sahara desert, all very different environments and regarding him having no personality he is just a very placid person who doesn't take the focus away from the beauty of nature & who knows how if you work alongside nature rather than against it, you will be much more likely to survive.

Fuck Bear. Ray Mears is way better in many ways. First of all he isnt a showoff. He doesnt need to impress anyone. Instead he focuses on the traditional ways of survival and bushcraft and does only what is really needed in survival situations. Bear on the other hand clearly exaggurates in everything he does.. Just another commercial idiot trying to make a living out of a tv-program people watch purely for entertainment with no meaning to it...like brainiac or something..fucking posers

Sorry leroymoneyman but nobody really agrees with you. Come on now, anyone with any real interest in the subject of wilderness survival would know Ray Mears has superior experience of survival compared to the basic voyeristic, superfical and highly risky techniques displayed by Mr Bear Grylls. Ray Mears is more down to earth and noticably supportive of old survial techniques which is considerably more beneficial to what is essentially the dying art of outdoor survival

thats were you are wrong. bear grylls and ray mears have two diffrent people. ray mears is for more Knowlageable at bushcraft and creating things. However bear grylls has more Knowlage at surviving due to the fact that he was in the SAS and the navy and he has done some intensive training with the french forighn legion.

Well concidering that Ray Mears often teaches bushcraft and survival courses for the SAS, I think that really says it all. Plus with the dodgey background of Bear's tv shows ie. deceiving viewers into believing that he was really stranded in the wild when he was staying at a California motel while filming, shown taming 'wild' horses who had horse shoes on their hooves, staying at a crew base-camp in the Costa Rican jungle while saying he was alone.

Plus his blatant disrespect for wildlife....

ray mears has spent his life dedicated to learning traditional methods of fire and has learnt shelter and so forth. however bear grills being in the sas has a different bunch of techniques ray most definitely has a greater knowledge than bear grills however bear grills can do things ray cant for example climbing up a cliff-face with no gear

True! Bear is in a way a bit more showman....like Steve Irwin. Rays skills are superb and he seems more trustworthy. I like Rays personality and his vision of how to behave in the wild and respect the nature.

Exactly ! The network gave Bear a show for totally different reasons. I agree, Bear is always looking for trouble ( that can make it fun to watch ). Bear is NOT ( nor has ever claimed to be ) an expert on survival. Bear is just a friendly, good looking, adrenaline junkie . He is former SAS but he wasn't a survival instructor ( I think I read he was in kind of a "reserve" unit . in wikipedia )

I learn things when watching Ray, Bear is just for fun.
