  • This is the song that resulted in Sissel producing the beauty that is the Titanic soundtrack.

Her voice is just so wonderful that i cannot describe it...

Amen!
  • This song is about that God Allmighty is always with us, that we must always trust Him and surrender to Him. That we must never worry or be afraid, that we must have faith that we are protected and have God on our side. It is about the merciful God that Jesus Christ preaches about.

  • This woman has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.

  • I remember she sang this in a memorial tv programme for King Olav! Something that I always will remember

  • I know of a heavenly stronghold shining as bright as the sun; there are neither sin nor sorrow and never a tear is shed. I am a weary traveller; may my path lead me from here to the land of my father; God, protect me on my way. We thank you for eternity God the Father, one in three. For you are gentle and mild to us in Jesus Christ! Amen.
  • Beautiful!!! Is this a Norwegian lament song? Just wondering. Because it shows some similarities with the Gwerz, a lament song type, from Brittany, a region in France, where they keep their Celtic roots held high.

  • @verhoogje It`s not a lament song. It`s a psalme (?) .

  • @perki1952 Yes, it is a psalm of praise and thanks.

  • To be honest, I have never been to Norway and I'm not familiar to the culture or anything but all that fascinates me about Norway, is captured in this amazing song. There's something special about norwegians, that separates them from swedes or danes.

  • I have had people tell me this is not as good as the traditional version, this may be true, but you like what you like & I LOVE this song even though I don't understand a word

  • maybe they're all norwegians, and they like the traditional song because maybe they grew up listening to it. I haven't heard the traditional version yet but the song is so cool. I actually understand some words, but the fact that you don't understand it makes it more mysterious and more deep, I think. I love it..

  • @aconchobhar i dont know how the original version sounds, but my introduction to this song wa s by a male voice-soloist, and it was so powerful...great orchestration, and great choir backing...ofcourse i just knew it was christian music, but i never knew what it said...still dont know but that tape-am dating myself here-had great music, my dad spent some time in Norway and brought the tape to Malawi, africa and i have been looking for that music since the advent of 'youtube'.

  • @kristicuk

since you've never been to norway i can't take your comment about danes ans suedes seriously?! how can you make such a conclusion without visiting scandinavia .. we're pretty much alike ... to me it seems as if you were trying to score some cheap points

  • @theKARSE I forgot I even made a comment like this. Well maybe I was a bit too caught up by the music, and you're probably right. I like the nature in Norway and I always wanted to go there so it probably made me subjective about the people as well. But I live in Scandinavia, in Denmark, and I came across Swedes and Norwegians, but when it comes to languages, Norwegian rocks!

  • @kristicuk

well i just thought it was a litlle hasty to make such conclusions yearh... cause we really not that different.. but your right about the nature.. beautiful and underrated .. and i myself like the norwegian languages better than the swedish .. easier to understand ! i hope you will be able to see Norway one day thought .. since your so eager to go there, and then i will be able to take your opinion seriously .. if thats what you still think! :)

  • @theKARSE yep true. Well I don't really care about how the people will be, but I'm sure I'm gonna love the nature. Hopefully, I'll see some northern lights as well :D

  • The 1st song sund by Sissel that enchanted me from her initial U.S. release after the Lillehammer, Norway Olympics. I love her & have met her in person, & several concerts. She is truly an angel of voice & a beautiful person.

If I may, I send this to my recently deceased husband, both of us of Norwegian heritage. I loved & miss him so... penny. So now it is reminds me of my beloved late husband & my father.

  • May God bless you. May He hold your husband's soul close, against His Heart. I hope that your sorrow will ease, and that you will take comfort in knowing you will someday be with him, in a place where no shadows fall.

  • I know in heaven a castle she shines clear as the sun there are no sin nor sorrow there is no cry and tear Therein lives son of God in delight and honour he is my comfort and true hope With him I shall be Sure I know, one morning comes when the death of night will end My body up from the grave will stand and infinite joy get to feel We thank you for ever God father, everybody You are so mild and gentle in Jesus Christ, Amen
  • Beautiful.. And sad!

  • perfect song!

  • This is an amazing song! So strong, so exact... Wow!

It was worth to look for it for 5 months! :))

  • I am so sorry I took so long to reply, you have been looking for 5 months? wow, but as you said worth it, I added it only because no one else has it on here, although there is a great sissel titanic oveture you should see, i'll look for it and send it to you

  • :))

No worries, I didn't even expect anyone to answer. :)

Oh, I've seen the Titanic overture! That was my first step to find this video because I finally got to know the title of the song... :)

    Have a nice day! :)

  • again, sorry, I do not check the comment box often because as you can see most people say how the lyrics don't match the traditional version, etc. and I have no argument to any of this, all I know is I LOVE this song!

  • I LOVE IT too! Since the very first time I heard it...

But if that's ok with you, can you give the translation of what she sings about? Just be as precise as you can and I'll be happy! :)

  • This is the Title of the Norwegian Song.

It is, however, a song about heaven, even

though "himmel" literally = heaven. Most

interpret looking up @ sky, as same as

looking to heaven. It is a matter of interpretation & one must consider the

context of the lyrics. This haunting song

evokes loving feelings of my beloved father in heaven. It was my 1st favorite - sung by Sissel, whom I love. (I am only a perfectionist in Music, Fucoc.)

    Tusen Takk, aconchobhar.

  • "Eg Veit I HIMMERIK Ei Borg"

    Please listen to Sissel Kyrkjebo.

  • it's sissel kyrkjebo, isn't it...?

  • REPLY for Makchoo7, Yes, it is Sissel

Kyrkjebo, from Norway. Her angelic singing is extraordinary.

  • since i am a perfectionist when it comes to my language, i have to point out that there is translation mistakes here.

Eg veit i Himmelrik ei borg means: I know there is a castle in Heaven.

Himmelrik is heaven, not the sky, even though they can look the same...

  • that may be true, but I do like this version very much, but would welcome to hear the version you mention

  • Yes, this is the one:"Eg Veit I Himmerik Ei Borg". (I Know There Is A) "Castle In The Sky", the basis for her 'Titanic' Vocalises. James Horner knew the perfect voice when he chose Sissel to sing the Soundtrack. I sing this Norwegian song for my Father.

  • really, this was the song james horner heard, when he was doing titanic, so 99 percent of what you hear on titanic is her, I don't have the video editing skill you have, but the whole song is nowhere here,,,my first post

  • REPLY for aconchobhar, Her Vocalises & Descants were Inspired by this beautiful Norwegian song that Horner heard her sing. Please listen to her discuss this & sing it with some of the the soundtrack vocalises on:'Sissel - Titanic Overture'. You will hear how it was the catalyst for the soundtrack music.

  • I think this is the first song I've listened to by Sissel Alan. What a haunting melody, I'll need to check out more. Thanks for the post!
