LSD is a joke for any reason!!! but go ahead and kill the pigs I guess wtf do i care if you fuck up your mind, just dont make my taxes go up!!! loser
@borderhopper - The School Bus; Manson may have said "God transported them up" there but the truth is much less interesting...he drove it over the hill from the road on the Las Vegas side.
can u drive to this spot? looks like yall were having trouble at one spot? do you have to get out and walk a ways? is it safe? seems really creepy? just watched six degrees of helter skelter, i recommend it
Death valley is so desolate, hot and dry that house probably lookes almost the same as it did 40 years ago. I've been through death valey a few times it's like driving on Mars.
Manson in the end sound like Porky Pig, badee badee badee badee that's all folks! But can you imagine all that high bush back then and I don't mean the shrubbery around the shack plus thats the only kind of good bush there is compare too the Bush in office. But the fish odor and I don't mean from a fish fry.
What did the sign on the door read? What was up with the odd child-like drawing on the doors? Who was in the photograph in the house at 10:35? Was one of the rooms not connected to the main house? Ok, I think that is all my questions. Interesting video. Thanks.
This is a great video, I have been watching it as I wait for news on the search for bodies and just heard no bodies were found, I think Manson killed many folk but the bodies will be found deeper in the desert.
When I was up there visiting the site several years ago a man who was also visiting the area told me that he had heard there were bodies burried up there. I thought he was full of it.....but obviously there was something to all those rumors. Interesting developments to say the least.
Even tho the ranch is remote and hard to get to Manson would hide any bodies as far away as possible, this search was too close to the house. I am convinced Manson has killed with his own hands in cold blood. I live in coastal North Carolina and I plan to visit Barker Ranch , I will ride a mule rather than risk the drive.
Bingo...not near the ranch. Don't sweat the drive, come in from DV Nat Park and see Meyers Ranch too- great place to set up camp with lots of potable water too. Started going up there in '77. Stay out of the canyons on the west side of Saline Valley, Chucks still got people in there.
@shitzulovey Please understand that Charles Manson has never physically killed another human being. It was alleged by the Killers of Sharon Tate, that they did it because their leader Manson coerced them into doing this. A likely story from a bunch of murders. Manson didn't do a God damn thing except trick a couple white girls to go out into the desert with him and do some acid and fuck. He was the scape goat. Mu ha ha ha ha ha
Try searching again with the correct title which, as jbrizznizz said, is "I'LL NEVER SAY NEVER TO ALWAYS," and it's off Manson's CD "Lie: The Love And Terror Cult."
Where's The Beatles music? Interesting. We went up there today. It seems like everyone else did to. It is almost a tourist trap now. Liked your photos, too!

Fascinating vid! You really give the viewer a sense of being there. I just happened upon this vid after reading about how they are now using high tech equipment to sense fluorinated hydrocarbons, where there may be more bodies buried on the ranch. Looks like this scary and historic place is going to get even more gruesome all over again.
Thanks. I've just heard the same news. Funny thing was when we were out there a fellow traveller mentioned about there being bodies buried around the ranch site. I actually have footage of some soil on the hillside where he thought there may be something buried. I thought the guy was full of it....maybe there is something to it. It is a fascinating place. Probably due to its remoteness & sense of isolation. Glad you liked the vid.
I have some video of Ballrat from a few years ago. I was not in a 4WD vehicle, but I managed to visit as many ghost towns as I could while on my road trip. I wish I could have been able to go check that out. Great job on the video. I wish I could see all the rest of the footage. Are you selling any DVDs?
Very cool! Wish I could have been with you on this trip. Like it or not its all part of our history. Also love the music! Who is doing the Arkansas song toward the end of this video?
Very cool video. I wish I was there with you to take pictures. It is amazing how the house hasn't changed much and the sheets are still on the beds after 40 years. That would make a great road trip sometime.
I too lived through that time as a teen in the 1960s. Charlie got his start during the Summer of Love in the Haight-Ashbury, which was a national magnet for disaffected youth in 1967. Manson was 30 or so and he lived on top (on the roof) of what was called "The Straight Theater" in the Haight. A genuine preditor, he recruited his followers from among masses of mostly minors that were wandering around below, trying to figure out what the hippy thing was all about. He showed them his version.
Too bad you didnt bother to read one of the books about the case before you visited. The bus was brought in from the other side, a much less rough road to the east that goes thru Mengel Pass. If Manson said "God tranported it there", he was being sarcastic, not literal. You did know there was another entrance to the area, right? If not, then you havent read much about the case, or else you didnt pay much attention while reading it.
The whole Manson thing took place before I was born...and no, I haven't read any book regarding Manson. I didn't travel into the Panamint mountains with the intent of making a video. It was only after I recorded home video type footage of our trip up there did I actually compile it into this "Manson thing". My interest in the whole only came about after my visit to Barker. Though...I did grow up a few miles from Spahn Ranch & have heard stories of Mansons association with the San Fernando Valley
You can ignore these dipshits that are criticizing your video. Thanks for posting it. Interesting to me since I love Death Valley and tried to visit Barker about 8 years ago; I gave up because we were warned about the difficulty of going through Goler -- my rental Explorer probably wouldn't have made it. At least watching your video let's me see what it would have been like to go. Get any tips for those thinking of going?
Also....I only learned later that there was a passage into Goler Wash via Mengel Pass. At the time I made the comment about the difficulty of getting the bus up there I had only one vision of Manson going up thru Goler from the Panamint Valley side. I have heard that the Mengel Pass route is more difficult than the route we took...so regardless it seems it would have been hard getting that bus up from either direction. I wanted to exit via Mengel but was concerned that I didn't have enough fuel.
In a conspiracy prosecution, one doesn't need to be present to be charged and convicted. Similarly, one can be convicted of homicide in a robbery where only one person pulled the trigger. As for Charlie being in jail longer than anyone else, only you seem to care. Wonder why. lol.
I was nearly the same age as those girls when this happened and it has always stayed with me. This video completely captured the way it felt then and brought back all those old surreal feelings. And we didn't even have to look at that photo of Atkins, Krenwinkle and Van Houten in those "little girl" dresses, going to court. I give you 5 stars for allowing us to use our own imaginations. Very well done. Thanks.
I'm a little confused 'Borderhopper'. Are you trying to make Manson into a celebrity ? Manson is evil. How can you include Manson's music with that of the Rolling Stones or Johnny Cash ?
No Polytheneted, I am not trying to make Manson into a celebrity. And I agree that he is evil. Before the infamous murders Manson made an attempt at making music.....clearly not on par with the Rolling Stones & Cash. But it adds a more personal touch to the images & ives you more of a feel what it may have sounded/felt like when Manson and his followers were hanging out at the ranch. That's my take on it.
For A person who grew up in that area. I know for a fact Charles Manson did not drive the bus op goler wash. He drove up the back side of the mountain from a different route wich I have been on.
yes ive been up there and was baffled how any1 could get a bus up that way through the terrain i had trouble in a 4x4 toyota off road vehicle so in 1969 i cant see it being capable.they must have drove up the back way and walked over the hill.
Yes that is true. have been on the trail and drove down the way they came up. The enterence is a little after Stove Pipe Wells. The terrain wasnt that bad back in 92 and again in 01 but since then I am sure the wash has been eroded a little more.
So people could theoretically go up there and live in there? Manson said something about a cave, or a pit, in the desert, that the family would hide in during Helter Skelter (If manson actually thought that was true- I think he was just on peyote and singing, and people took him too literally, and then killed some people, and so Manson was wrongly imprisoned.)
There are caves in the area. The house is in a very remote corner of Death Valley National Park and it is open to the public. People couldn't live there though...Park Rangers do check in every few days (or weeks)..but camping is allowed.
Cool. I think it would be a great idea to restart his "cult" and stop this nonsense about Manson being evil and crazy. For God's sake, he was imprisoned his whole life, why the hell wouldn't he be twisted and bitter? He looked normal when he was young you know. He never killed.
Jim...as far as I know it is allowed. Backackers and overland traveller's are able to use the cabin for shelter. The National Park service may check in on campers from time to time.
I'm sure had you looked a little more ,would have been able able to find bin laden and a few of his deputies out there also---Death Valley National Park is a misnomer name for such a beautiful, tranquil area
What a joke. Harrassed. They had no way of making money so they has to steal and deal drugs. Charlie had no idea how to make honest money so ripped people off. If they had done what was done on many communes the cops would have left them alone as they did most communes. GROW UP, if you weren't around you have NO CLUE!!!!!!
So this is still totally intact? If it's so remote, who maintains it? The house looks to be in decent condition. No one lives there or nearby? Do people camp there/stay there?
It is remote. It is on the far end of Death Valley National Park in the Panamint MOuntain range. The canyon is named Goler Wash & there are several mines and cabins (all unoccupied) in the canyon. The Park Service maintains it to a point, but some also say that friends of the Manson family help in its upkeep as well. Not sure how true that is.
The song at 6:40 is the Rolling Stones "Paint it Black".....followed by Jim Morrison's Lament (from the Doors) w/ guitar by Jimmy Hendrix. Not sure if it was on any Black Dahlia film..maybe.
wtf lol wtf lol omg omg this video is turning out to be odd to me i i cant help stairing at the boys mouth omg i dont have anytime to do my blogging anymore i am now hoping that this responce gets a responce i love that the girl in this is so little thats cute omg iwantu lol whf omg omf lpm (little piggy mouth) lol

Sorry, the answer to my question was right here! Just learning the whole Youtube thing!

Very cool! Wish I could have been with you on this trip. Like it or not its all part of our history. Also love the music! Who is doing the Arkansas song toward the end of this video?
imontop4u 3 years ago
The song "Arkansas" is by Charles Manson and was recorded in 1968 (i think) here in the San Fernando Valley, Ca.

Very cool video. I wish I was there with you to take pictures. It is amazing how the house hasn't changed much and the sheets are still on the beds after 40 years. That would make a great road trip sometime.
Thanks and keep up the great work!!!!

Still, an interesting visit.

Though...I did grow up a few miles from Spahn Ranch & have heard stories of Mansons association with the San Fernando Valley

borderhopper,
You can ignore these dipshits that are criticizing your video.
Karachicameltoe 3 years ago
Also....I only learned later that there was a passage into Goler Wash via Mengel Pass. At the time I made the comment about the difficulty of getting the bus up there I had only one vision of Manson going up thru Goler from the Panamint Valley side. I have heard that the Mengel Pass route is more difficult than the route we took...so regardless it seems it would have been hard getting that bus up from either direction. I wanted to exit via Mengel but was concerned that I didn't have enough fuel.

Charles Manson was never convicted of killing anyone yet hes been in jail longer than any other prisoner in California.
jackvenom1 3 years ago

Thanks.

Ok borderhopper. It is an interesting subject. I find Manson and the family extremelely eerie, and scary.
polytheneted 3 years ago 2
I'm a little confused 'Borderhopper'. Are you trying to make Manson into a celebrity ? Manson is evil. How can you include Manson's music with that of the Rolling Stones or Johnny Cash ?
polytheneted 3 years ago
No Polytheneted, I am not trying to make Manson into a celebrity. And I agree that he is evil. Before the infamous murders Manson made an attempt at making music.....clearly not on par with the Rolling Stones & Cash. But it adds a more personal touch to the images & ives you more of a feel what it may have sounded/felt like when Manson and his followers were hanging out at the ranch. That's my take on it.

the media did that a while ago.

Nicely done; I've been to Barker many times. Best time to get there is when Goler is "impassable" :) Much more fun.

the usa train marines in the canyon i hear as the terrain is similar to iraq and afghanistan.
jimpurdie 4 years ago
For A person who grew up in that area. I know for a fact Charles Manson did not drive the bus op goler wash. He drove up the back side of the mountain from a different route wich I have been on.
roosterboy1977 4 years ago
Yup
Goler canyon rd, off Goler canyon byway go's to Barker ranch, on to Meyers Ranch and runs until it ends before China Lake
willtrib 4 years ago
yes ive been up there and was baffled how any1 could get a bus up that way through the terrain i had trouble in a 4x4 toyota off road vehicle so in 1969 i cant see it being capable.they must have drove up the back way and walked over the hill.
jimpurdie 4 years ago
Yes that is true. have been on the trail and drove down the way they came up. The enterence is a little after Stove Pipe Wells. The terrain wasnt that bad back in 92 and again in 01 but since then I am sure the wash has been eroded a little more.

Dude this was awesome! Thanks guys, that's crazy. It's cool for those of us that don't have 4 wheel or can't make it there.

So the area is fully open to the public?
StyxHexenhammer 4 years ago
Hey Styx,
There are caves in the area. The house is in a very remote corner of Death Valley National Park and it is open to the public. People couldn't live there though...Park Rangers do check in every few days (or weeks)..but camping is allowed.
borderhopper 4 years ago
Cool. I think it would be a great idea to restart his "cult" and stop this nonsense about Manson being evil and crazy. For God's sake, he was imprisoned his whole life, why the hell wouldn't he be twisted and bitter? He looked normal when he was young you know. He never killed.
StyxHexenhammer 4 years ago
He told people to kill, he is directly responsible for the murders. He is phychopathic, and shows no remorse at all. He is still dangerous.

Learn to spell psycopathic, man.
He isn't dangerous, and he never killed anyone. Doesn't matter what you say.

You also need to learn how to spell "psychopathic".

border are you allowed to camp out in that little building you were in?
jimpurdie 4 years ago
Jim...as far as I know it is allowed. Backackers and overland traveller's are able to use the cabin for shelter. The National Park service may check in on campers from time to time.
borderhopper 4 years ago
Question is would you have the stomach to camp in that building Jim

What a joke. Harrassed. They had no way of making money so they has to steal and deal drugs. Charlie had no idea how to make honest money so ripped people off. If they had done what was done on many communes the cops would have left them alone as they did most communes. GROW UP, if you weren't around you have NO CLUE!!!!!!

So this is still totally intact? If it's so remote, who maintains it? The house looks to be in decent condition. No one lives there or nearby? Do people camp there/stay there?
DrunkJesse 4 years ago
