  • And thus began the hunt for kabrina1977's comment...... Goodbye world. you might not see me for a few months.

  • I love you, Matty:)

  • I can't wait to see them on the 28th here in Chicago! Devotchka rules and I love the bass player! She does amazing things to my heart and mind with her playing.

  • @povkilla Will be at that show, too, for my birthday! :D

  • What is the image at 1:46?

  • @c0l0mb0r1cua a still from the movie 'The fauntain' is my guess0

  • Makes a gypsy out of mine.

  • 26 people dont have hearts.

  • what's that picture on 3:14??

  • @katcatgr88 i think Siouxsie and band members

  • @christiaan81music thank you!

  • Decotchka never stops to amaze me

  • @FernandoEscher87 You`re parents brother and sister or something?

  • @KingRildor the fucks your problem

  • @dowwa321 ?

  • Not bad, but Siouxsie is more powerful imo.

  • Masterpiece! Masterpiece! Masterpiece! I'm crying, now...

  • Dali paint a bunch of these?

  • Love this version!

  • What a fuckin' track!

  • Whats wrong with hipsters?

  • why am i thinking of Deuter?

  • Anyone else notice the pictures from the Lord of the Rings?

  • @blackhawk92295

probably my favourite scene in the whole trilogy.

...you will linger on,in darkness and in doubt..

  • i would like to know who's painting on 1:23,1:46,1:59,2:30,2:37,2:45 and 2:50?

  • Personally I love both versions of this song, lots of meaning and emotion behind them both. And on the topic of hearing a band before someone else, I in some ways agree with kabrina1977 because in a lot of situations with me I find myself addicted to songs that other people don't like or just don't like them as much as I'd hoped, and if DeVotchka ever gets all the fame they deserve, then I'll happily remember how their music was (as in how it is right now) and how much their songs meant to me :)

  • @gunnersview Why? Because...This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!

    To epic?

  • Oh my god this is amazing.

  • This is also my favorite song. Ever

  • LOLOLOLZ to stupid to appreciate because I recently discovered....twat.

  • @g0tek Did I say you were stupid? I don't see where it could be inferred that that was something I had said. Unlike you, I do not use the internet to insult people...if I did, I'm sure I could think of a more intelligent response than "twat". And your comment was chock full of bad grammar. Maybe that says more about your intelligence level than anything I could post.

  • I hope that anyone listening to this has heard the original Siouxsie and the Banshees version. It's an absolutely fantastic band. And as for Devotchka, they've done the feeling and heart of this song justice. Well done boys

  • 24 people need to fall of a sword!

  • I cant seem to stop listening to this song. Ive always loved Devotchka, I must listen to them at least 2 times a day, but with this song (or cover) they really touched my heart. Ive always used them as a guide for my musical sense and creativity, they inspire me in ways i cant describe but this is too much, I think i'd die for Devotchka.

  • MMM, This is a darn good cover, but Siouxsie has my heart.

  • I love the images from Shaun Tan's Arrival. The arts so brilliant in that book

    ...brilliant song too

  • I love the Myst: Exile screenshot

  • I'm french, I've read your comments, and I'm so sad that I can't understand the Words they sings...

  • @12c4a u can only read english?

  • @KingLegendary1

Yes, but I can't understand as good as you that the word minds...

  • @12c4a lucky for you I speak french vous me de traduire les paroles?

  • @KingLegendary1

Euh, I haven't really understood the French part.

Je n'ai pas bien compris le passage en Francais..

  • @12c4a J'ai dit que je vais traduire le passage en francais

  • @KingLegendary1

Génial, si tu as besoin d'aide pour l'orthographe ou autre, n'hésites pas !

  • @12c4a lucky for you I speak french vous me de traduire les paroles?

  • que buena!!!

  • Yes - it brought me to tears the first time I listened.

  • okay... i love this song and Devotchka... but is ANYONE ELSE HAVING TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING HIM????

  • The song ended... oh hello reality, didnt miss you.

  • Some day I will understand the logic behind why some people seem to think that because a person didn't hear a band first it means they're somehow incapable of appreciating them or their music properly.

    Today is not that day.

  • @gunnersview Thank you, sir.

  • @gunnersview Actually, I don't feel that way at all...that'd be pretty hypocritical of me, considering I was not the first person to ever hear this band...right?

  • @gunnersview i dont think its a "i heard it first therefor you can't". It has nothing to do with trying to be negative towards what other people feel. For me, Its more of a "this is how passionate i feel towards this particular music or band" Its a treasure you want to keep to yourself and you can't help but share. And you hope that everyone can love it as much as you do and appreciate it as much as you appreciate it. But it is a little sad to think that they might not. Its passion we feel.

  • @gunnersview Those people are called hipsters.

  • @gunnersview

    Here here!!

  • @gunnersview exactly!!!! Who gives a fuck how you got here, what's important is that you're here!!!!!!

  • @gunnersview No, you will never understand that phenomenon because there is no logic behind it.

  • @gunnersview Jam, Jam, Jam :)

  • It was The Arcade Fire who suggested they play this is the first place

  • @enjoymentness--Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Thanks for sharing yours!

  • Love the artwork in the video.

  • Reminds me of human drama. "I bleed for you"

  • Pretty good version interpretation of Siouxsie and the Banshees song....

  • @mk1054--I have, and it breaks my heart every time. I think my favorite may be "You Loved Me", though. Breaks my heart in a completely different way. (Maybe my heart is too fragile for this music? LOL)

  • weird.. felt like the plane never made it off the ground

  • well put...

  • Oh. Devil...how right you are! And thank you for expressing your dissent so eloquently. More than I love music, I love people who use the relative anonymity of the internet to put other people down. So a hearty "Thank You!" my friend...stay classy!

  • i want to die listening this

  • this song sounds like life

  • the most beautiful song that i've ever heard.. almost to make me cry

  • I actually like this version better that siouxsie Devotchka are the best.

  • great!!!

  • I'm sitting here listening to this amazing song and I notice that Fergie is a featured 'artist' on youtube and Devotchka isn't... Something isn't right...

  • Magnificent!! Best cover of Siouxsie I ever heard

  • (A humble curtsey) Thank you to all who have responded so positively to my comment. It's nice to know there are people out there who feel as deeply about music as I do. I often try to describe to friends my love of music, and how I feel so passionately that the things we choose to listen to are really an autobiography. Sadly, few understand.

  • @kabrina1977 I know your exact mentality. I'm particularly endeared to "How It Ends", but DeVotchKa are amazingly in touch with the essence of life and know how to move their audience. Musically, I cannot match such songs as these. I feel foolish and frivolous; a vain attempt at sheer perfection. I find that poetry is the medium in which I can express my marvel at the beauty of life and hope that others understand may too realise the amazing qualities we experience in life. Music. Peace. Love.

  • :O love the pics! If you still have them could you send me them in a zip or something?? especially the trees and water one

  • I always loved the original song, this cover is so haunting, they did a really great job, they keeped the emotion of the song, i love this cover. It's so beatiful and hauting, like the original song.

  • he slideshow is really good. cover of one of my favorite song EVER okay not great just ok

  • Sometimes the original song is transformed into something (at least) special. This is not the case. It's... no change for the better.

  • remeber people its a cover song for them

  • ew. siouxsie's is so much better. sorry.

  • Intergration of Lord of The Rings and The Fountain..............you mother fucking.... GENIOUUUUS!

  • @Fratos9

What the fuckitty damn hell do Lord of the Rings and/or The Fountain have to do with this marvelous rendition of a truly superb piece of music?

  • Observe the hundreds of Images before your eyes. Devotchka makes them UUGH. MAAAAY. ZING!

among them are pictures from those Films :D

  • @Fratos9

Ahh, I understand now. I haven't actually seen either of the films apart from small excerpts. Thank you for clarifying. :]

  • so realaxing ....after a long day its so soothing luv it!!

  • It's weird music, i kind of prefer to listen to through headphones. more personal.

  • Devotchka is Russian for Girl. c:

  • This made me think of my dead wife and now my day is ruined.

  • this is so amazing , i dont really have the words to describe it and i dont know why but it really hits a spot with me something deep

  • A perfect song...for a prefect girl! ^^

  • great band

  • I like how my friend Daniel Merriams Art is displayed often in this video..

  • The uploader is DEFINITELY a beatnik of the sort with the art & song, all thats needed is poetry :P

I'm making my wife walk down the isle to this cover, Its right on par with Cohens Hallelujah if you ask me

  • I love this version. The Graphics are Beautiful. Thanx ,never heard of this band.

  • WONDERFUL video... Thank you for it!

  • Strangely--selfishly--I like that Devotchka isn't more popular. It's like I have this amazing little secret, this unbelievable music that's made for me and me alone. And while I'm always happy when a band I love "makes it", I'm always sad that people who will never TRULY appreciate the band and their music will be listening to songs that have struck such a personal chord with me. It's like all the world is reading my diary.

  • @kabrina1977 Hit the nail on the head why don't you sir/madam :)

  • Comment removed

  • @kabrina1977

My goos'h. I do feel this too. It kills me when a magical music land gets known to a bigger land. As you see it becomes less special. And, it's great to say nto people 'Oh, there's a great band'... and they say 'oh who?', and then you say 'well, devotchka', and they go 'oh, never heard' and you say 'well please do'... because it is like you're letting them in on the magic and giving them the gift of walking and dancing on the land you know to be so beautiful.. too much mass kills!

  • @kabrina1977 thatt was awesomely put

  • @kabrina1977 What you just said, I can really relate to. You are a genius my friend. Music is made for us to be deeply affected in our own selfish way and that is really being in touch with music, when it has true meaning to you.

  • @kabrina1977 If music is good that doesn't mean it should go mainstream. It should stay with the people who actually appreciate it. Overplay does terrible things to delicate music.

  • @FluffyBunniesOnFire Then don't hoard such beautiful music. Let other people have a chance to listen to it, and if they don't like it then.. Nichevo =p

  • @FluffyBunniesOnFire decreasing music of value by overplay doesnt exist in the mind of someone who actually apreciates the music itself. (Typos ftw)

  • @kabrina1977 deep <3

  • @kabrina1977 music was made for the whole world, not selfish assholes.

  • @kabrina1977 i usually think like @TheDevilBurning , but i really think you have a valid opinion there, like a real argument instead of just saying 'ugh, i would hate that devotchka would became popular s:' and i agree, that when music means so much to you, its hard to see someone not aprecciating its value.

(sorry if my english is weird or something, im chilean, i speak spanish)

  • @HeartAttackMALVA lol well written, its good

  • @kabrina1977 Did you listen to Dearly Departed?

  • @kabrina1977 aww now i feel bad for for wanting to tell my friends about this band lmao

  • @kabrina1977 Honestly... that's pretty selfish and ignorant.

  • @kabrina1977

I understand your thoughts, but then i don´t understand why u post such a private comment under this song, where about 400.000 people can read it ?!

  • @kabrina1977 Oh my god. My fiance' and I feel the exact same way.

  • @kabrina1977 Beautiful words!! love!

  • @kabrina1977 thats a very succinct way of putting it, and i think we've all felt like that from time to time when great bands finally get discovered. don't worry about the selfish part, just be happy that other people get the chance to listen too. and the next time you're in one of those momentary magical musical reveries that seem so distinctly personal, remember, they are. for everyone.

  • @kabrina1977 We don't want people to benefit from what we benefit from otherwise, we lose our strategic advantage. Embrace the real idea that we are all at odds with each other as individuals.

  • @paulism1984

Lol, I'm not at odds with you buddy boy! We don't need any 'strategic advantage' or tactical angle to get down in a cuddle puddle, so what idea is so odd as to get out of sorts? Good music, good thought, good love and good people-- fuck the nonsense sir

  • @DominoGray Well fine "being at odds" may not be the right word. I assigned it to be a resumé of your comment "this amazing little secret, this unbelievable music that's made for me and me alone." And strategic advantage is what you get when you benefit from something "made for me and me alone."

Why do I have to be assigned to be the one "out of sorts"? We can't have a friendly conversation and agree to disagree? I'm trying to shed light on why we as people do that.

  • @kabrina1977 god.. what you just said so perfectly encapsulates every single thing that i hate about people.. you don't want anyone else to hear what is undeniably really good music, cause you want to be the only one that's cool enough to know about it.. this kind of shit makes my blood boil. it's not your music. period.

  • @kabrina1977 I think this is poetic, and beautiful, and sad. It's sad, but not as sad as the fact that people still think you just want to be the only 'cool' person who listens to this band. I get what you're saying, and it's beautiful.

  • @kabrina1977 Isn't life wonderful?? c:

  • @kabrina1977 I understand this feeling so much, and i keep repeating it to al who ask me why i feel so strongly or so selfishly and maybe a even a little snobbish and pretentious. but thank you for expressing it so beautifully (so much so that i needed to reply and say THANK YOU)

  • @kabrina1977 Well, just so you know, it's more like DeVotchKa is reading Souxie and the Banshees diary to you.

  • @persephonegoldfish I get it. It's a cover. I didn't say I wrote the damn thing. Sheesh. (By the way, I love all of their covers!)

  • Its a great cover version. Listen to the original by Siouxsie and the Banshees, they both have different styles and both very beautiful.

  • Love how unique DeVotchKa is !

  • mine too!

  • Let's give some praise to siouxsie and the banshees who did the original of this song...I hate when credit is overlooked

  • that the POWERFUL PLAY goes on and that I may contribute a verse. To those far away I say breathe in deep the essence of life. To the one dearest to my heart I say cum to me my beloved let us make our music, let us play to our noumenon's content. Let us run naked through the verdant wood, arms outstretched, chin high and with barbaric Yawps aplenty :-D

  • Fuck damn

Why is every song by this Devotchka amazing

  • Beautiful <3 :]

  • this is what happens when obama is president.

  • @kritykat6666 (this song was written by a british band while ronald reagan was president, but whatever)

  • GREAT song

  • People listen to me....Put everything down just for a moment and watch this video. We are gods ladies and gentlemen. Love someone, bring them close to your heart. This is the pathway to Light, Life and everything that matters:-)

  • Quite an impressive (if at times a touch overblown) version of the Siouxsie and the Banshees original. Strange that somebody else didn't cover this song sooner.

  • Devotchka girl. gypsy/punk is great! tugging at the heart strings with this song. every song this group creates is gold. and Gaga has a place in my musical world as well. What is a beiber?

  • i dont blame justin beiber or lady gaga for thier shit music.... I blame the people who listen to it and buy it. If they stopped shoveling that shit into thier ears cause its got a beat bands like this would actually be heard by all and appreciated.

  • Gorgeous *o*

  • A friend of mine recently listened to some DeVotchKa, and told me she didn't really like it. She isn't really a mainstream person, so I assumed that I wouldn't like it either. How wrong I was.

  • would justin motherfucking bieber will ever make a song likr this?? heeeell nooooooo, fuck the mainstream

  • Wow...

  • i love you

  • <3 <3 <3...what more to say...

  • Lovely song, wonderful group and a wonderful array of images here to accompany this!

  • Siouxsie and the banshees cover, done right!

  • Truly a masterpiece! There should be some way to hang this on a wall in the Louvre.

  • To me it doesn't matter which version it is; this is still a truly beautiful song. Still takes my breath away every time I listen to it.

  • I'll admit, I do like Siouxsie's live version the best, but this is right up there. It's beautiful.

  • agree, siouxsie's live version at lollapalloza is just breathtaking

  • I love this song with the last beat of my heart...

  • This is too different from Siouxie's original to make a comparison between the two. I think that, no matter who's singing it, it's impossible not to be won over by the spirit of the song.

  • Simply mindboggling that these amazing artists aren't superstars?!?!

  • holy shit. this is magnificent.

  • WOW some romantic-comedy is missing out on their "sexy protagonists realize they were meant for each other" moment. Devotchka is gorgeous.

  • it's a cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees. They recorded it in 1988 for their gorgeous album "Peepshow".

  • Have always loved and adored Siouxsie's original but this is interesting with the male take on it. Also haunting. but not as lovelorn.

  • I think there is hidden people and objects in a lot of these pictures. Does anyone else see this? Example @ 5:03 there's "an app like mountain with a fist coming out of the earth" That's just one picture too.

  • Esta música continua a ser linda.... fizeram um belo trabalho!

  • anyone know where the picture from 2:40 is from?

  • @elsatime It looks a lot like Tim Burton`s "Sleepy Hollow"!

  • 21 people are Justin Bieber fans xDDD

  • @The98emma Please don't destroy the beautifulness of this song by mentioning his name....

  • great siouxsie!!!! great devotchka....

  • @cammytherunescaper

Maybe people know the original by sioxie and the banshees

  • Siouxsie and the Banshees version is even grandiose !!

  • Although this piece is beautiful and sweet, I LOVE the Siouxsie and the Banshees version better :)

  • 20 ppl they're heart may stop

  • Oh common who disliked this song this is so relaxing and beautiful n____n.

  • When I hear this I want to dance around and love everyone I run into and tell them"We are gods!!!"

  • @EshkaronsEngine I love this comment. Thank you!

  • "as i slooshied, i knew such lovely pictures."
