I can't wait to see them on the 28th here in Chicago! Devotchka rules and I love the bass player! She does amazing things to my heart and mind with her playing.
Personally I love both versions of this song, lots of meaning and emotion behind them both. And on the topic of hearing a band before someone else, I in some ways agree with kabrina1977 because in a lot of situations with me I find myself addicted to songs that other people don't like or just don't like them as much as I'd hoped, and if DeVotchka ever gets all the fame they deserve, then I'll happily remember how their music was (as in how it is right now) and how much their songs meant to me :)
hey youtubers im making videos on one of my new channels so please it will be great if u checked out my vids but so far i only got one but i will be uploading some more very soon and i would love it if u guys would take some time out of ur day and gave me ur honest opion about them thanks for reading!!
@g0tek Did I say you were stupid? I don't see where it could be inferred that that was something I had said. Unlike you, I do not use the internet to insult people...if I did, I'm sure I could think of a more intelligent response than "twat". And your comment was chock full of bad grammar. Maybe that says more about your intelligence level than anything I could post.
I hope that anyone listening to this has heard the original Siouxsie and the Banshees version. It's an absolutely fantastic band. And as for Devotchka, they've done the feeling and heart of this song justice. Well done boys
I cant seem to stop listening to this song. Ive always loved Devotchka, I must listen to them at least 2 times a day, but with this song (or cover) they really touched my heart. Ive always used them as a guide for my musical sense and creativity, they inspire me in ways i cant describe but this is too much, I think i'd die for Devotchka.
Some day I will understand the logic behind why some people seem to think that because a person didn't hear a band first it means they're somehow incapable of appreciating them or their music properly.
@gunnersview Actually, I don't feel that way at all...that'd be pretty hypocritical of me, considering I was not the first person to ever hear this band...right?
@gunnersview i dont think its a "i heard it first therefor you can't". It has nothing to do with trying to be negative towards what other people feel. For me, Its more of a "this is how passionate i feel towards this particular music or band" Its a treasure you want to keep to yourself and you can't help but share. And you hope that everyone can love it as much as you do and appreciate it as much as you appreciate it. But it is a little sad to think that they might not. Its passion we feel.
@mk1054--I have, and it breaks my heart every time. I think my favorite may be "You Loved Me", though. Breaks my heart in a completely different way. (Maybe my heart is too fragile for this music? LOL)
Oh. Devil...how right you are! And thank you for expressing your dissent so eloquently. More than I love music, I love people who use the relative anonymity of the internet to put other people down. So a hearty "Thank You!" my friend...stay classy!
I'm sitting here listening to this amazing song and I notice that Fergie is a featured 'artist' on youtube and Devotchka isn't... Something isn't right...
(A humble curtsey) Thank you to all who have responded so positively to my comment. It's nice to know there are people out there who feel as deeply about music as I do. I often try to describe to friends my love of music, and how I feel so passionately that the things we choose to listen to are really an autobiography. Sadly, few understand.
@kabrina1977 I know your exact mentality. I'm particularly endeared to "How It Ends", but DeVotchKa are amazingly in touch with the essence of life and know how to move their audience. Musically, I cannot match such songs as these. I feel foolish and frivolous; a vain attempt at sheer perfection. I find that poetry is the medium in which I can express my marvel at the beauty of life and hope that others understand may too realise the amazing qualities we experience in life. Music. Peace. Love.
I always loved the original song, this cover is so haunting, they did a really great job, they keeped the emotion of the song, i love this cover. It's so beatiful and hauting, like the original song.
Strangely--selfishly--I like that Devotchka isn't more popular. It's like I have this amazing little secret, this unbelievable music that's made for me and me alone. And while I'm always happy when a band I love "makes it", I'm always sad that people who will never TRULY appreciate the band and their music will be listening to songs that have struck such a personal chord with me. It's like all the world is reading my diary.
My goos'h. I do feel this too. It kills me when a magical music land gets known to a bigger land. As you see it becomes less special. And, it's great to say nto people 'Oh, there's a great band'... and they say 'oh who?', and then you say 'well, devotchka', and they go 'oh, never heard' and you say 'well please do'... because it is like you're letting them in on the magic and giving them the gift of walking and dancing on the land you know to be so beautiful.. too much mass kills!
@kabrina1977 What you just said, I can really relate to. You are a genius my friend. Music is made for us to be deeply affected in our own selfish way and that is really being in touch with music, when it has true meaning to you.
@kabrina1977 If music is good that doesn't mean it should go mainstream. It should stay with the people who actually appreciate it. Overplay does terrible things to delicate music.
@FluffyBunniesOnFire Then don't hoard such beautiful music. Let other people have a chance to listen to it, and if they don't like it then.. Nichevo =p
@kabrina1977 i usually think like @TheDevilBurning , but i really think you have a valid opinion there, like a real argument instead of just saying 'ugh, i would hate that devotchka would became popular s:' and i agree, that when music means so much to you, its hard to see someone not aprecciating its value.
(sorry if my english is weird or something, im chilean, i speak spanish)
@kabrina1977 thats a very succinct way of putting it, and i think we've all felt like that from time to time when great bands finally get discovered. don't worry about the selfish part, just be happy that other people get the chance to listen too. and the next time you're in one of those momentary magical musical reveries that seem so distinctly personal, remember, they are. for everyone.
@kabrina1977 We don't want people to benefit from what we benefit from otherwise, we lose our strategic advantage. Embrace the real idea that we are all at odds with each other as individuals.
Lol, I'm not at odds with you buddy boy! We don't need any 'strategic advantage' or tactical angle to get down in a cuddle puddle, so what idea is so odd as to get out of sorts? Good music, good thought, good love and good people-- fuck the nonsense sir
@DominoGray Well fine "being at odds" may not be the right word. I assigned it to be a resumé of your comment "this amazing little secret, this unbelievable music that's made for me and me alone." And strategic advantage is what you get when you benefit from something "made for me and me alone."
Why do I have to be assigned to be the one "out of sorts"? We can't have a friendly conversation and agree to disagree? I'm trying to shed light on why we as people do that.
@kabrina1977 god.. what you just said so perfectly encapsulates every single thing that i hate about people.. you don't want anyone else to hear what is undeniably really good music, cause you want to be the only one that's cool enough to know about it.. this kind of shit makes my blood boil. it's not your music. period.
@kabrina1977 I think this is poetic, and beautiful, and sad. It's sad, but not as sad as the fact that people still think you just want to be the only 'cool' person who listens to this band. I get what you're saying, and it's beautiful.
@kabrina1977 I understand this feeling so much, and i keep repeating it to al who ask me why i feel so strongly or so selfishly and maybe a even a little snobbish and pretentious. but thank you for expressing it so beautifully (so much so that i needed to reply and say THANK YOU)
that the POWERFUL PLAY goes on and that I may contribute a verse. To those far away I say breathe in deep the essence of life. To the one dearest to my heart I say cum to me my beloved let us make our music, let us play to our noumenon's content. Let us run naked through the verdant wood, arms outstretched, chin high and with barbaric Yawps aplenty :-D
People listen to me....Put everything down just for a moment and watch this video. We are gods ladies and gentlemen. Love someone, bring them close to your heart. This is the pathway to Light, Life and everything that matters:-)
Quite an impressive (if at times a touch overblown) version of the Siouxsie and the Banshees original. Strange that somebody else didn't cover this song sooner.
Devotchka girl. gypsy/punk is great! tugging at the heart strings with this song. every song this group creates is gold. and Gaga has a place in my musical world as well. What is a beiber?
i dont blame justin beiber or lady gaga for thier shit music.... I blame the people who listen to it and buy it. If they stopped shoveling that shit into thier ears cause its got a beat bands like this would actually be heard by all and appreciated.
A friend of mine recently listened to some DeVotchKa, and told me she didn't really like it. She isn't really a mainstream person, so I assumed that I wouldn't like it either. How wrong I was.
This is too different from Siouxie's original to make a comparison between the two. I think that, no matter who's singing it, it's impossible not to be won over by the spirit of the song.
I think there is hidden people and objects in a lot of these pictures. Does anyone else see this? Example @ 5:03 there's "an app like mountain with a fist coming out of the earth" That's just one picture too.
And thus began the hunt for kabrina1977's comment...... Goodbye world. you might not see me for a few months.

TheLittleBillShow 11 months ago
i dont blame justin beiber or lady gaga for thier shit music....

To me it doesn't matter which version it is; this is still a truly beautiful song. Still takes my breath away every time I listen to it.

I'll admit, I do like Siouxsie's live version the best, but this is right up there. It's beautiful.

This is too different from Siouxie's original to make a comparison between the two. I think that, no matter who's singing it, it's impossible not to be won over by the spirit of the song.

Simply mindboggling that these amazing artists aren't superstars?!?!

WOW some romantic-comedy is missing out on their "sexy protagonists realize they were meant for each other" moment. Devotchka is gorgeous.

it's a cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees. They recorded it in 1988 for their gorgeous album "Peepshow".

Have always loved and adored Siouxsie's original but this is interesting with the male take on it. Also haunting. but not as lovelorn.

I think there is hidden people and objects in a lot of these pictures. Does anyone else see this? Example @ 5:03 there's "an app like mountain with a fist coming out of the earth" That's just one picture too.
