Triops are very interesting. I had only 1 survive in the long run in my fish bowl. I dried the sand and when I poured in water I got 6 triops from that one.
I killed them by pouring a little more water In D:
Now I have a full sized fish tank and another kit to try again with.
@MrWimz I mean, could I keep them in my seamonkey tank, but without the seamonkeys? I'm just wondering if the seamonkey tank would be enough space for triops.
Who told you Triops were rare? you can get then every couple of months off the back of a schoolastic magazine. i got some when i was 12, but accedentally killed them 3 days after they hatched.
@dinosaurman1000 if they are small, they might get eaten by the fish. if they are larger than the fish, they might eat the fish. a word of advice, do not put them together.
@4everdemented Very high. I hatched one triops from a commercial package, and she lived for two months. I dried the sand and now there is at least a dozen offspring swimming around.
@Wikutin That's great news then ! I bought a kit on Ebay last night and was sort of disappointed to find out how short their life-span is . But if they're likely to have a dozen or so offspring then it was definitely worth the $1o .
there a awesome little critters, shame they only have a short life spam. Can you buy them in a pet store, I know its not the right term or would I have to buy the little kit.
We started the experience with my 10 yo son. Only one survived: I think we didn't separate them (or feed them) in time, so the biggest 'nicely' ate his little friends. Oops!
Still we take great care of him and are 'proud' of this little success for a first try. My son even gave him a name: Kiki. He's now 2 weeks old so I think it's time to put some sand in the aquarium. He's funny and awesome to watch!
To think they live no more than 2 months and still exist since 200 million y is incredible!
@AKLd95 It's very unlikely, albeit possible that the eggs will hatch without a dry period. But if they do, the triops may eat them. They're more cannibalistic towards sick or dying triops and if they haven't gotten enough food.
I bought some dried triops eggs today! But there is a catch -___- The seller told me that the wont be able to reproduce, can explain me this reason please? Btw that is some damn sexy triops u have there ! <3 :D
@AKLd95 Your triops salesman is lying to you; he wants you to buy more eggs. Unless they're male (which are very rare) they're able to reproduce. Between a week and two weeks they should be able to reproduce... Alone if necessarily.
@jameswildones Try with spring water. 22°C is optimal for hatching. Triops Longicaudatus have a low hatching rate and the fact that they're being sold in packages of 20 eggs or so isn't really helping the matter.
@crosmandudelol Do you have that teabag thing inside the aquarium or whatever they're swimming in? That's usually enough. They don't get much than that in the wild either... Which I suppose is why they're cannibals. When they're specs their small mouths aren't able to eat anything but algae, bacteria and other invisible things. I didn't feed mine before they could swing properly, and even so I crushed the pellets. It's much easier to overfeed the triops than starve them.
@crosmandudelol How big is your tank? They won't hatch if there are more than half a gallon (two litres) water. Some instructions say there shouldn't be more than half of that. Personally my Longicaudatus hatched in one litre (0.25 gallon). Well, one of them did. Did you use spring water? It's usually the best. Anyhow, be patient. My first triops took four days before hatching and I have read it can take two weeks. The small specs are also nich impossible to see.
@Wikutinok my trops alredy hacthed and every thing thank you for the advice he is now the size = = but there is one problem the algea tied his tail togther and now it can swim i tired helping with a toothpick by pullin it apart it worked but it tore a little piece of my fishes tail, will the fish die? or will it recover i saw like 1 drop of blood coming out. please help me

@jameswildones This wasn't directed at me, but I'm going to answer anyway... 1. Depends on your room temperature. Canciformis is for colder climates, 10-28°C. (50-85F). Longi. (18-30C/60-86F) and same for Australiensis. I have read Australiensis are harder to breed and canciformis the easiest. Longi are cheaper and more readily available...
2. With plenty of eggs. Eggs are however sold in minimal amounts so usually you get more triops after your first ones have laid their eggs.
I totally believe these are eaten by humans. Since they are known to turn up in puddles during he summer rains around the world I am sure tribe people gobble them right up as a quick snack or a meal.
Wow, for something that's been around for 200 million years. They don't live for very long. Well, they must be doing something right if they've been around for that long. Amazing.
@Tayjar88 yes you do have to put sand or dirt at the bottom of the tank because thats how females lay their eggs no sand or dirt will result in no eggs... females will only lay eggs when they can hide them from other triops... hope this helps!
I bought the Triops Pack for $20.00 in my school's scholastic and i did everything but they didnt hatch.... Luckily my friend Leon has like 20 triops so i can go over and check 'em out! but still :(

Hello, may i ask you please for more information? im thinking to start breed triops. im thinking of to buy some eggs, but is it easy to breed them? and how to dry eggs? please can you answer me on email : zdenisvobodova@seznam.cz . Thank you very much.
@agouti6 Firstly, yes the eggs hatch, but only if they've been dried out for about a week. They dont need to be fertilized as most triops are both male and female, while a very small percent is just male (like one in this video)
@MrHestolemyname well, it depends if there are any left in the tank. If there are many in the tank, the body will be gone before you knew it died. If it was the last one in the tank, take it out and let all the water evaporate, so you can hatch the eggs in the sand.
hmm dude if you see this i got kinda question how do you make en hatch?
ive tried 5 times now and theres not happening anything at all?
and now ive tried again and theres been 4 days and now theres something down there alive. But its kinda walking around on top of the water and almost jumping around could it be one??
@RasecVonWizzlbang Most are usually, but sometimes you'll get males or females. Even the hermaphrodites are leaning towards the female classification.
Wait wait wait.. These are the Triops that come from the kits??
I've always had Sea-Monkeys and I have a "triops" tank that I got from Wal-Mart and than I have a one gallon tank that I was thinking about getting more Sea-Monkies but after seeing this, I'm going to get triops :)
awesome video!! i was just thinking of buy some triops, and when they die, i can have a bettafish in the tank =) triops are really cute, and thankyou SO MUCH for making this video!!
I had 4 that hatched from 1/2 of the amount of eggs that came with the kit. Its been about 3 weeks now and 3 have died after changing water, eventhough I did everything that the instruction said. Oh well... But the remainig one is pretty healthy I guess and has survived another water change and constantly produces eggs. They are pretty much the only pets Im not allergic to, so i gotta love em

I thought Triops were hermaphrodites?
RasecVonWizzlbang 1 year ago
@RasecVonWizzlbang Most are usually, but sometimes you'll get males or females. Even the hermaphrodites are leaning towards the female classification.

its cool because its rare to have a male triop even more rare to get an albino i had both believe it or not it died and i froze it

youtub77777771 1 year ago
I had 4 that hatched from 1/2 of the amount of eggs that came with the kit. Its been about 3 weeks now and 3 have died after changing water, eventhough I did everything that the instruction said. Oh well... But the remainig one is pretty healthy I guess and has survived another water change and constantly produces eggs. They are pretty much the only pets Im not allergic to, so i gotta love em
