really, Apple is the one who need the new look. The original design came out in 2000. With barely minor tweaks, Like Panther's more rounding design and Leopard's "semitransparent" design, it's old. At least with Microsoft they edit the design. Each version since 95 has had the same UI elements (Start Menu, taskbar, etc.) With variants. At least they are brave enough to give it a remix instead of change the smallest thing on it.

I'd rather use Windows ME than Vista. Although If available I would use Ubuntu 9.10 over all of the NT based Windows.

If I had a choice of ME, 98SE, and Vista, then I would rather use 98SE or ME.

Neither Linux or Mac are OSs.

Linux is a Kernel and Mac is series of Apple brand computers.

However, Ubuntu (or any other of the hunderds of Linux distros) and OSX are OSs.

There is a huge difference between a kernel a computer and an OS.

No. I even ran a test with my PC.

One with vista, and one with osx snow leopard. I used the same hardware, and the mac's clock was even .4 GHz higher. Both dual cores, running Adobe After Effects. Now the PC had a GTX 260 vs a GT 130, but the difference was so vast that the OpenGL acceleration was not the problem. Plus, the mac had 4 GB of ram, while the PC had 3. And I have never had any problems with my Vista. Only crashes were manually initiated by me for fun.

You act as if Apple builds their computers with components any different than any other brand.

My computer is far superior to the three thousand dollar Macs that I am forced to use at my school for cinematography.

@SethiXzon Well then someone messed with your computer. They are way faster than that. And if you actually knew anything about Macs, you would know that they are WAY different than PCs. Sure they use some basic components that other companies do, but they integrate them in a way that no other company does. Plus they build custom cooling systems, unibodies, and other hardware features that no other PC company has even done yet. That's why Apple's customer satisfaction is higher than all others.

After one of their video cards failed; I removed all of its components and I do not see what you mean by 'in a way no other company does'.

We cannot even use older iMacs as they refuse to boot even if RAM is placed in a certain slot without others present despite all slots functioning.

So for example, charging batteries, they can build a custom computer ship to manage voltage of batteries to make them lost for a long time, and for them to support many cycles. That's just one small example of integration and unique hardware features. I just scratched the surface. I have dozens of other reasons. But if you think they're going slow right after you opened them, that's probably because your HD is still indexing. But after that...

@SethiXzon It's extremely fast. I have a Snow Leopard partition on a USB drive that boots up in 15 seconds. And I've also never had one of my Macs die on me. I even have a Mac SE from 1987 that boots up in 8 seconds. I am even still able to upgrade the thing.

@SethiXzon Well, sure Apple's computers still aren't perfect. They're really good but not perfect though. I don't really know much about cinematography, but yeah there's lots of PCs that are a bit superior to Macs. And yeah they still use the same parts that other computers do, they don't make their own parts so much anymore with their actual Macs.

You're talking about windows now, you have just described the problem in all windows version. Windows 7 is still a piece of garbage, but have to admit it's better than windows Vista. And no, I'm not uninformed, people who use windows are uninformed =/, I think it's not bad to be a little geeky and learn linux, but people are just lazy and they rather spend their time removing viruses and ask people like me: "You know stuff about computers right, I got this virus on msn, how do i remove it?"

Ubuntu never failed me until the other day when I tried putting it on my 10-year-old laptop after which bootup brought me straight to the terminal b.c. xwindows wouldn't load. So having wiped my harddrive clean and no windows CD I had to try Linux Mint and I recommend it to you because it worked first try.
