  • This hit by Glen Campbell was the 111th #1 song on what is now Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #1 on the Country & Western charts, on both the Canadian Top 40 and C&W charts, #3 on the Top 40 charts, and #7 in the United Kingdom. And lest we all forget, GC is battling Alzheimer's. Let's keep him in our prayers. I know that he is going to fight this with everything he has.

  • @mkl62 my favorite song of all time

  • @kwaynesult Thanks. As for the Alzheimer's, I have a personal stake in this. 15 years ago this month, my uncle began displaying signs and was later diagnosed with it. But he is still hanging on, though.

  • well said perfect.....you should be a wtiter

  • Love you Glen. Good luck with the grammys - you're a winner.

  • I love this song. Really have always been a Glen fan. Gives me memories of my dad. RIP.

  • A master at work. R.E.M. and Michelle Shocked covers make me a happy panda.

  • Beautiful. Makes remember my childhood. My parents played the record endlessly. .....)

  • this is a beautiful song!

  • Homer Simpson brought me here

thumbs up if Homer brought you here too!! ;D

  • One of the few things that the rest of the world loves about America

  • @Ladyboy69er Very true.Love the thought of your user name, great.

  • I watched this episode of The Smothers Brothers. I've watched this version of Lineman 50 times. Things I wish I've never done.... Just watched this synchronized with the audio of the album. It matched perfectly. Except for his guitar solo, I hate to say it so I won't.

  • from this recall of a musician's reflection, who would have ever thought that the Russian toilet tricks and trades of the game of life, would have inferred Mr. Campbell's music was nothing more than chasing the Homecoming Queen as he was all star Quarterback. No cheers needed!!!!bwm

  • Wonderful song reminds me of my grandfather, he used to love this

  • Simply superb! I love the fact that the orchestral section at the end is heard here. In most live versions of this song Glen ends the song rather abruptly just before the instrumental section at the end kicks in.

  • I remember listening to this with my parents sony transistor radio at night i dont even think I was ten.

  • Amazing....

  • ♫ I need you more than want you and I want you for all time...♪

    what a great line...

  • saw him play this and many other hits last week - not sure who enjoyed it more, me or him.

  • Jimmy and Glen were a potent combo. Wish we had more than the few tunes from them.

  • Really great arrangement. Better than the record, IMO.

  • Wake the fuck up dumb shits! the man is dying and he has accepted it, He is not comming back in any shape or form. Where does all this crap about being born again come from, the standard of education in the US is very poor. You promise the vunerable that they will come back to a better life when they die, rather than trying to have things better in this and their only life. All religon is a fraud and criminal.

  • @fnh8340 how pathetic you are

  • AM bliss ~

  • i love the fiesta red fender bass vi

  • @DakotaPlaysGuitar for years I always wondered how he got that tone on his guitar for this. I had no idea it was a 6 string electric bass until i saw this video. I had always thought it was a hollow body electric with a very heavy gauge flat wound string...like gauge .013s.

  • @inkey2 good ear to know it wasnt a regular guitar, the bass six gives a very unique sound. Other songs to check out that use this are alot of Cure songs, such as pictures of you and lullaby, other famous recordings with it are just about anything from the "Fresh Cream" album and the UK band Placebo uses them alot. Jet Harris of the shadows used them a ton , it can be heard on the song "scarlett o Hara" as many other of his songs. i just posted a video of me playing a 1962 bass vi on my channel

  • Gorgeous!

  • Oh, the passion!

  • Help me get Glen Campbell get long overdue recognition at the annual Kennedy Center Honors awards. He's an american legend and his playlist is phenomenol. How can you not be moved by songs such as "Galveston", "Wichita Lineman", "Southern Nights", "Gentle On My Mind", or any other of a number of his songs. Write the Kennedy Center and tell them it's time for Glen Campbell to be recognized!

  • Seeing him tomorrow in NYC. Can't wait. Looking forward to hearing this song

  • How can anyone not like such a beautiful song? One thiong about the sixties, the country was in a mess, but the music was great!

  • Great song from 1970 !!! GLXgrove

  • What a Tune!

  • just simply amazing

  • Not my usual taste in music but i heard this on the radio and really liked it.

  • And I need you more than want you and I want you for all time -- has there ever been a better line in a love song?

  • @basicaa Best i ever heard!

  • Beautiful song!

  • the loneliest song I ever heard

  • So very beautiful!

  • what a guitar.

  • ***** 5 stars

  • why we like this song..... it is melodic; nice violin background;

lyrics are good; very nice !!

when this song was a hit in the late 1960s,

    i was a 16 year old boy, a junior in high school in northern virginia;

at 16, purchased a fender telecaster guitar with money i saved up working

at a department store; i would practice guitar in our porch, and a girl in long blond

hair would pass by everytime; how nostalgic !!

  • Love this song!! One thing to be thankful for in regard to his current condition, is that he became born-again prior to being afflicted by this horrendous disease. A new body free from disease awaits him, and for that, I am truly thankful.

  • @Whitese7en Gorgeous song, and yes that resurrection body will be glorious.

  • @GoldZahava you know what ??? I cant be fuckin bothered

  • @GoldZahava There ain't no new body after death, my friend.

  • I ,too, have always loved this song! And yes it is sad that he has that dreaded disease which has no cure. May God have mercy not only on Glenn Campbell but on all of us.

  • @Aliendear -I agree. There have been many changes since this song was recorded and sadly most have not been for the best.

  • love this song. takes me right back. haunting.

  • this song drifts me back to a time long ago, when summers were long, christmas was magical and life was simple and care free

  • @blairone100 amen brother!!!!!!

  • @blairone100 So true...I feel exactly the same. Nicely put.

  • @blairone100 you said that perfectly. thats exactly how I feel when I hear his music form this period.

  • Real classic!

  • Which Idiot asked him his age on TV knowing his condition?

  • The 'perfect storm' of writer (Jimmy Webb), composition, and performer, EVER.

It just doesn't get any better than this.....

  • A gente tem que amar a Deus e um cantor como esse, uma música que mexe com o sentimento da gente!

  • Glen has so many good tunes....I'd say this would be his signature song though.....A lot of people never understood what an awesome guitar player he was......Believe me Paisley,Gill, Urban all listen to him growing up.....One of the best all timers !!

  • The bass intro you hear is Carole Kaye doing an inprov

  • It's hard to pin down a favorite song but this one always appears at the top of every list I've tried to make.

  • Thank you MrMartinbeltran and 1954tele for your kind words regarding my resent comment . regarding Glen Campbell. It's so sad he has that terrible desease. He is in my prayers.

  • One of the nicest songs I've ever heard.

  • MsDiane my respect for you and god bless you too , he is avery good singer and a exelent poet cowboy ......MARTIN ROCA

  • Love this song!

  • it's that wink and look following melting me still...

  • The thing about this song.....

  • Mr Campbell has shaped my musical life. Thank you, Glen, esp for Gentle on My Mind, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Galveston, and esp my favorite, this song.

  • Glenn Cambell and Jimmy Webb; can't imagine there'll ever again be such an amazing music-making duo ever again, though I sure hope so!

  • Jimmy Webb composed this with such an ethereal combination of chords...he was a genius. Glen sings it and you can see him reaching that note, around :23 - :28 sec. Atleast that's when i get my first set of chills...and that WINK!, at 1:27, i wonder who it was for......so quick you almost miss it ;)

  • Like if you watched this video after seeing that episode of Top Gear

  • i want to love as deeply as the witchita lineman loves his woman.

  • "Wichita Lineman" is a popular song written by Great Jimmy Webb

  • i grew up before age 10 listing to glen campbell and still love his music and what a voice he had

  • The chord changes alone were way ahead of their time

  • Truly timeless

  • This song was written by Jimmy Webb not Glen Campbell. Jimmy Webb has written more classic songs than you can ever imagine.

  • @pbstl747

You got that right. Jimmy is unreal. I love hearing old albums, thinking a particular song is an amazing song and then realising it's a Jimmy Webb song. It happens a LOT.

  • I LOVE Glen Campbell! Wichita Lineman brings back many memories. Thank you for the post.

  • classic

  • The 60's has some awesome moments... This is one!

  • This is one of GC's greatest songs. I prefer the Studio recording versions of most songs though. They are a little more crisp and finished. Thanks for Playing them.

  • This is the kind of music I'd expect to hear while I'm put on hold during a call.

  • @DjembeDjam Funny you say that because I have been put on hold with this song playing! On hold music was a radio station that played good time oldies. I didn't care if I had to wait 10 mins for someone to pick up the line! :)

  • @rpc73 What makes this even better is that I was referencing this: watch?v=ocVu0xqp0CM

  • YES !!!!!

  • The song stayed 2 years in the US 100

  • 88 people have had their sense of hearing damaged

  • @WatfordDan34 Make that 89

  • I loved this song when I was in grade school, and now so many years later, still love it. "And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time" makes me almost want to cry. God bless Glen Campbell!

  • CHANTICLEER!!!!!

  • Very underrated guitar player, it's a shame that alcohol had such a negative effect on him, still a great musician!

  • @hiredmercenary Yeah, I agree ... What's even more sad about Glen Campbell is that he's facing the loss of his memory over a long period of time. :'(

  • wow Glen is doing a REM song!!

  • @zappadead13 Hahahahahahaha!!!!! :-)

  • @zappadead13 strangely enough I think you may find it's the other way round - but you knew that right ;)

  • This is such a beautiful song. Thank you Glen.

  • lovely

  • One of the grossest diseases to happen to anyone, especially my grandmother on Dad's side, may she rest in peace. I hope the meds Glein is taking at least help him make it through his final tour. Great to see on the CMA's how Jimmy Webb's songs and how Glen sold them is still holding up . If anyone has the luck of getting back stage when Webb and Al DiLory(producer/arranger) are there, get your picture taken with all three of them.

  • Glen Campbell, please don't leave us.....

  • God he's a handsome bugger isn't he? ;-P

  • Glen Campbell was on the CMA's last night. Keith Urban, Brad Paisly and Vince Gill paid tribute to him by singing his songs. Glen was in the audience and I almost started to cry. I also saw him on a talk show about a month or two with his wife and when asked how old he was, he thought he was 63 or something but he was older. How sad to have the terrible disease, Alzheimer's Disease. Glen I will pray for you and your family. You sang so many wonderful songs. God Bless You!

  • @MsDiane104 ;; Reading your note, the way you framed the tribute to Glen by his peers and finally the news of his Alzheimer's made it difficult to finish reading. As a young boy, I remember my father (a Jazz musician-Guitar) learning Glen's version of this, Gentle on my mind and others on the Guitar. Words now fail me, this is when I first realized that I wanted to be a musician. What music has meant to me, I'm now 52. Glen, you have given the world so much, know that you've made a difference

  • @MsDiane104 , Glen is 75, for the record.

  • Saw him live a few weeks ago... Amazing! Played Witchita Lineman, Rhinestone Cowboy and By The Time I Get To Phoenix... Also performed with Instant people featuring some of the other Campbell's... But it made my day, that gig. The open space of the Plymouth Pavillion, the atmosphere he creates... And the songs...

  • My favorite Glen Campbell song. Nice tribute to him last night at CMA awards.

  • @philajcollins

you can see the tribute on you tube. it was really nice.

  • I was a little kid living in rural Colorado in the 70's when I recall this song. I can still see the desolate, snow covered plains with high-tension wires running into the horizon whenever I hear this song. Magical!

  • Love this song. So sad to hear Glen has Alzheimer's disease. Hoping the best for his health and prayers for his family.

  • My Fave song of his

  • thank you thank you thank you Jimmy Webb. One of the most talented song writers ever

  • Simpsons brought me here

  • my mum used to listen to his LPs all the time when i was little, that was in the early 80's, but i heard this song again today on 1 of the vintage music channels, it just brought so many memories back, what a breath of fresh air

  • I'm not a big Glen Campbell fan either; but a great song is a great song. And there's no way you can put a career together in music for as long as he did w/out being super talented. Just can't do it.

  • Great song and epic hair.

  • i dont listen to this kind of music... at all, but after hearing it on the radio, i have a new kind of respect for this style of music. its a really powerful song.

  • why does glen campbell have such fucking awesome hair in this video..

  • He is my Grandfathers favorite singer. My mum grew up listening to him from my Grandad, and so was I. Now all 3 of us are going to see him on his goodbye tour. I love his music so much, and this is my favorite song of his.

  • I like this song, but the set design makes me think Christo and his wife were the designers. I saw "The Gates" in NYC in 2005 and something about this set makes me think of them. Weird mental connection, I know.

  • i love this song

  • Simply a wonderful song......."need you more than want you....and I want you for all time." Describes the marriage I have had for 25 years with my wife. Maybe that is why I love the words so much.

  • Fantastic song, Great singer. Keep listening to this and it gets better and better. Even more poignant that Glen has been diagnosed with Dementia and is doing a farewell tour while he can, Very sad

  • this is his BEST

  • saw "Marty" cover this at Kirkcaldy Rock Club last night.. excellent..

  • Glen in his prime! How great is that. He sounds fantastic live. Great video.

  • The musical arrangement is unique, with acoustic guitars, strings and of course Glen's Baritone electric

  • He is great. One of the greatest, and most fluid, guitarist of all time. He put sincerity into Webb's songs. I wish I had listened to him more when I was younger. We'll miss him.

  • I watched Glen last night in Cardiff, Wales. Glen played to a full house of a couple of thousand adoring fans. He had a standing ovation before he sang a note and the biggest, loudest standing ovation and encore I have every heard in any gig I've been too, from Paul Weller to Stevie Wonder. It was my first, and only Glen gig. What a wonderful funny charasmatic character....I'm totally smitten. I think I broke down when he sand Wichita and Phoenix and was emotional all the way home. Legend.

  • Legend, my parents love him

  • Nice--what an era!

  • all his hits were written by the brilliant Jimmy Webb

  • Will someone please upload Glen`s great version of SHENANDOAH !!!!!!!!

  • This song rang across the country,,so beautiful

  • Saw him tonight at the Lowry in Salford. 1st date of his UK Goodbye Tour. Absolutely top class, 75 years old and he's still got it

  • Good stuff:

As a real Lineman when I first hear this song I was in a two man crew riding in a 1965 Ford F600 with a Telecon 15C digger boom.

Talk about being the "prince of the city" we were the prince of the county we were the prince of every where..

Levis, chambiris shirts and Red Wing lineman boots and in the dead of winter Carhatt bibs and coat.

I would do it again in a heart beat.

    Bad knees and all.

Some things you never get enough of. Hell, you were dressed for any Prom.

  • for familie meester in canada

  • Thanks for posting! Brings back the good memories of my childhood! Thanks again!!!!!

  • Heard this song for the first time a couple days ago and fell in love with it instantly. My Mom loved Glen Cambell, which is why I stopped to listen to it and instantly knew why Mom liked his music.

  • klller boots!

  • Always loved this song, Galveston and By The Time I Get to Phoenix. Never get tired of them. Such a beautiful smooth voice!

  • Sweet song this..

  • I went hunting in Lindriith , NM and met and stayed with the family you spent a lot of time with when you where a kid. It was great seeing all the pictures. I'm from Arkansas too and it really touched me the feeling's they still have for you. Best of luck with your illness, my father is in his final stages, Hospice is taking care of him it's just a matter of hours. God bless you

  • this is a song that twists your heart until tears fill your eyes but it is very nice to hear .

  • Glen is one of my all time favorite singers and this is a brilliant song. Thanks for this wonderful post.

  • Wichita Lineman is simply the best country song ever made. PERIOD.

  • Homer!

  • Glen laying it down with Fiesta Red Fender Bass VI!

  • Love the guitar.....and the song...

  • @MrJeffreydunson, glen is still very much alive. let's not rush things.

  • Hey, just had a great idea, Wouldn't be cool, if like " The Boss " & Tobey Keith, perform a duet of " Wichita Lineman " in tribute to the late great Glenn Campbell, @ the 2012 CMA. please share your comments.

  • Great song, but i'd have to say Willie Hutch's version is better

  • 87 people need to get their asses kicked by me! How one God's green Earth can you not LOVE this beautiful song by this delicious man? Really, this is one of the most timeless songs I have ever heard! TIMELESS

  • How you doing old Hippie...I'm one as well....This is truly Soul music......You listen and you are there...Take care you guys.......

  • Glen Campbell is one of the main reasons I appreciate the best of country music.Dad played guitar and banjo, and I thought it was just hillbilly stuff. I went straight to classical, opera, all of that. It is still my favorite, but country has so improved since I was a child. I love the best of it now--Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Josh Turner, many others, including Glen.

  • ***** 5 star *****

  • One of the best song of all time i think :)

  • I came to this song via a Radio 4 show about it. You think you know all the good music out there and somehow I've let this one slip me by. Truly ethereal.

  • Hmmm...... when they talk of all time classics in any musical genre - this one is in there pitching....

  • how crummy that we have to have an add for obma's job act over this video!

  • God bless you Sir.

  • Im an oldie but goodie that loves this song

  • your a bigger fan than you think....you posted this fine tune.

  • alzheimer's disease....

My prayers to a man who has sought the Lord.
