This is hysterical!! one of the best contrary dances I have seen! hahaha We have always done this at powwows ..especially traditional powwows where it is frendlier and more family oriented. This is a social activity..I danced in the womens version and used my sons traditional outfit. We always have to go pick a guy or gal to dance in our outfit. it is a social activity and soooo fun. I prefer the small traditional powwow to the larger competition powwow. Such a better energy.

As far as I know as NATIVE people, one of our greatest attributes IS our humour... don't you all think? Is the same being said when they get lead singers from drum groups to dance in competition with each other? Uh.. no, I don't think so... As for the "traditionalness" of the jingle dress, it along with all the other dances has become very contemporary and it IS for competition NOT for a ceremony... pow wows are not ceremonies.

LMAO that was enjoyment and entertainment for the day. and u guys are dumb they do that at the pow-wows every year for a good laugh. havent u ever been to a pow-wow? quit tryna act all cheif and high mighty native cuz its for laughs. makin jokes and having a sense of humor is part of being native so shut up u dumb (abe snabe).

i find it completely disrespectful to the ojibwe people and especially the ladies. I've seen switch dances before, but none were taken to the extreme of catagorization. I can't get over the fact that this was posted. I feel it makes a mockery of a very sacred healing dress...

Lighten up. If you can't change and adapt then anything unchanging dies. I work everyday with native americans and they have wonderful adaptability in their culture. Let them have fun, just like any other people does with changing times!
