As a 20 something, there is plenty of music out there, but this album on vinyl was the first thing to real rock me in a long time. When I heard the king will come start to build, it inspired so many things in me. It is a shame that music like this was abandoned all together, but who could ever hope to recreate this? It's perfection.
"far beyond the hills where earth and sky will meet again" that part still gives me chills after five years of listening (I know it is nothing compared to people who have known the album for +20 years, but I was born too late)
To elpjotre2009: I totally agree with you! You expressed my thoughts also! Awesome to hear this again, now with my children, who never heard this before... Greetings, Mickey, Skopje, Macedonia
i'm glad my dad brought me up on good music, i may only be 18 but i doubt ill ever find another band that can deliver that wishbone ash feeling. will be seeing them live soon
Isn't it strange, how one can hear a song again after perhaps 30 years and feel it has never left you. As if it was just a couple of weeks.. a holiday. It does make me wonder about the secrets I have yet to find..
The prog at 1:16/2:20 simply takes my breath away....this song beckons of an infinite sadness that I can't put my finger on, yet can feel. Brilliant work by two guitarists on the same plane.
When I was 15 or so I knew Ash existed but they weren't "heavy" enough to be on my playlist. Then one day my unhip mother comes in from work and hands me Argus which she'd bought in a charity shop because she liked the cover I think and I said, "Yeah, thanks Mum - whatever" and tossed it aside. And eventually I thought, I may as well play it...and it was like - WTF - this is THE BEST ALBUM EVER MADE and THIRTY-FIVE years later it's still in my top 5 albums, definitely. Sweet.
@kapo10wong ...I have to say, the love of my step mom Deb and the family connection I have to all the gifts I recieved was through music and books...Argus ...and The Lord of The Rings ..it all combined together simply made a definite in-press-shun on my soul...
@darthkrueger Good question :-). The Who Live at Leeds, Zappa's Sheik Yerbouti. Presence or Physical Graffiti (can't make my mind up on that), Solid Air (John Martyn). You know what, though, in a year's time the list will be different but Argus will still be there.
pops & cracks and all . . . nice warm sound . . . l recall working out many of these licks in my (party) basement with my guitar buddies when this first came out.
I still consider this as one of the most peaceful songs ever written. Absolutely loved this song back in the day and still love it today. Thank you sargoth85 for posting it.
Still feel Wishbone Ash were so under rated in their day, Argus nearly 40 years old and can still hold its own against anything todays bands can put out. An absolute masterpiece. If i had to pick my top 10 albums of all time Argus would be 9 of them!!
just started smoking alot of rocky when i got this tape off my dad, leaf and stream would space me so bad, in the dark with full volume, what an album. And i clutched the album also lol
this song is and has been in my top 10 favorite songs ever and it will remain there forever great headphone song or road trip song lol got to see them 1 time in the day I was not ready for them at that time I wish I could see them now but in the day if that makes sense lol
My bf plays guitar amongst 7 other instruments...and let me tell you even though he was a metal guitar player to begin with he knows more about guitar players and the passion than most...just because they play heavy metal or rock doesn't mean they don't know about how the greats were!!!
My personal favorite melody. Wishbone Ash deserved much more recognition than the one they got. They should have been awarded again and again and again....But that's life on earth.. Oh, only 2 "jokes" this time..haha !
My brother dropped this into a playlist for me several years ago as a tribute to the mellow side of surfing. Big swell, gray day, light offshore, waiting outside between sets, nobody talking just waiting. I like listening to it sitting alongside the Ohanapecosh River at least once a year.
I was having a converstation with a friend yesterday, about albums that were pure magic and that there was no "I'm going to skip this song", type of mentality. EVERYTHING on Argus is amazing and there is not one song I would skip. It is very sad that Wishbone Ash was not as popular in America, they are one of the most underated bands. It's truly an injustice. They are more than a band, Wishbone Ash just 'IS'. The word band cannot begin to describe what they were and still are.
A great track from one of the great 70's rock albums. Probably more revered now than at anytime since it's release. Hugely underrated as influences on many who foillowed. And was Hugh Cornwell listening then? Check out the Stranglers' Golden Brown for a Wishbonesque solo.
i think its safe to say, only wishbone ash fans understand. ive followed ash since the early 72... my brothers had it on in the living room. intro to time was. the funny thing about ash, it aint radio garbage. to bad they didnt feed this to the public. but instead they gave us, i wanna rock and roll all night... gene sold out .... i like all kinds of music... just a little pissed wishbone ash wasnt shown a little more respect.
these guys were great! This record was great! I was so happy with it in my teens ages ago, and funny thing the music is every bit as appealing to me now as it was then. This subdued piece is a gem and my hands are itching to grab my guitar.
Tears in my Eyes when i rediscovered Wishbone Ash on Utube and all the Memories of my Youth came up with it. I didn't listen to this Album for nearly 30 Years because i had no Player for vinyl records anymore. Its like doing a Journey for decades and now coming back home to be aware where my heart really belongs too. Your nice and respectful Comments make me feel not alone. I love you for that ..... Peace
@elpjotre2009 Yes I feel the exact same. I hadn't listend to Wishbone Ash since I was a kid Imy elder sister played Piligrimage). I've since bought Alone, Lullaby and a few others from iTunes. Beautiful music that's so much more than rubbish such as rap and karaoke X factor commercialised guff.
@KubrickLives Zepp, Purple and some others produced big concerts by that time,I guess that's why they had more followers, but you're right, this guys deserved to be on the top , this was a hell of a band
20 odd years ago an uncle of mine pointed this band out to me. I bought Argus and just couldn't stop listening to it. Over and over again for months. Nowadays I still do once in a while and it still moves me enormously. Arguably one of the best albums ever made..
Yeah gorgeous track I love the guitar playing and the cool feel of the song. Saw them at Fairfield Halls in Croydon in 1974. My first concert ever, and a cracker!Bob C
the bone was and is the most underrated band in the usa- it's sad that so many haven't experienced the greatness af andy and the boys- but anyone who knows me,knows of the ash-
Lyrics by Steve Upton one of the best rock drummers ( strongly rooted in jazz )i ever heard . Sadly underrated. Listen to his excellent work on the first albums for instance. Strong jazz feel -really fluid. A driving force so to speak. And don´t forget to experience "There´s the rub " from -74
A massive contribution from everyone of course , but the drumming really stands out here : melodic and supportive .
and when it ends you have to follow it with "Warrior " and "throw down the sword"; one of best album endings/side "2s" of a vinyl album ever, up there with " DARK SIDE". Whoever I lent the album to, it never came back easily; it was that good ;; Saw the original Argus tour at the Free trade hall; Inspired
I heard this song for the first time ever on the radio this week... I was humming the melody straight after, it gave me goosebumps, one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard in my life XX
Fantastiuc piece, reminds me also of a special somone too she was amazing but just too much work for any one man to cope with and now just the sad yet happy memories and another notch on my learning curve
Every time I listen to this song, I am reminded of a very special person who enriched and enlivened my life for 2 years. She's been gone a year, and Leaf and Stream captures my emotions like no other song.
i can only imagine what it must have felt like to listen to it all the way through for the first time back when it came out. thats what my generation needs. im 20 and from brazil. and down here people are starting to listen to some great music.
Psyzippo: I was in my 20's when the song first came out. I used to lie on the grass under a tree at lunchtime and play the entire album in my head. I knew every word and every note....opened up worlds within worlds, indescribable. Its still with me after all the years...enjoy....
Thanks for posting. A simple beautiful song with haunting lyric. It reminds me of when I was young and uncertain making my way forward in life like a blind man tapping the cobblestones.
Very cool comment. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful memory of youth and turning on to a good vibe and searching for who we were through tubulent times.
Albums were always better than live as we saw these boys at Massey Hall, Toronto in the winter of 1972 ! Gentle Giant blew them away unfortunately as the boys were so confused they said it was so nice to be back in Ottawa ! LOL I had their three albums up to that time and loved them but they shattered my illusions of them live ! Still love this tune best of all ! I never quite forgot that night !
Ashes fom a wish-bone,sounds like unrequited love to me,dreams never realized, thank GOD for the British invasion,Pat Boone would STILL be...wait,we DO have,I'm not even going to say,Michael Bolton's...name..aaaarrr- gus
Wishbone ash are a fantastic band, it brings back manu happy memories for me listning to this song, sitting by a campfire on the beach on the north coast of the scottish highlands when I was just 18, sunset, atlantic waves, sand and a bottle of rum! I always felt they never got the fame they deserved. Great music and great musicians. 10/10
When I was in High School a friend playe me the 1st Album. Became an instant fan! Love the 1st 3 LP's best. Love wishbone 4 too, a different sound. There's the Rub is great, Laurie does a great job. Foun out what F.U.B.B. meant after I got Andey Powells book.
This is one of the most moving and melancholy bits of brilliance I've ever heard. Your dad is an incredible songwriter and one of the most under-rated drummers ever.
Loved it/them from the first time I herd it/them somewhere around 1972 then I saw them once a memory I cherrish they were unbelievably good they have such a pure and unique sound studio or live and I always loved the sound of a flying V, maybe thats why I like UFO so much too lol !!! and Argus is still one of my all time favorite LP's that I play almost daily, I still have the original vinyl but no I dont play it lol
WA at their very best. What a song and what an album! Thanks for the upload. : )

Reminds me of doing mescaline and drinking Boones Farm wine in the early 1970's.

My first concert in 1973 in Sheffield, saw Martin's version on 7th October 2008. Argus still one of the all time classic albums.
Dreamy, hopeful, and melancholic track.
