They actually have these exact same speaker/strobes at the Showcase Cinemas in Randolph, MA (they're speakers, and have 15-candela strobes). It's a Simplex 4100 voice-evac system from 1998. They've got four of these in each auditorium (as well as two pull stations, one at each fire exit.)
Depends on how the system is set up, If it's programmed to start w/ the whoops, it can startle people, but if it does a pre-alert tone (like a chime or something) it's not bad at all.
Simplex 4003 voice-evac panels (usually installed with smaller panels like the 4005 and 4010) do that slow whoop, but can they do the same voice message? The public library in my city has supposedly a Simplex 4010 system with 4003 voice, and the signals are TrueAlert speaker/strobes.
The default message on the 4003 is different from the default message on panels w/ built-in voice evac, but the 4003 is capeable of being programmed, so if you really wanted to, you could change the message.
Well, hooking it up to an amplifier won't do anything - speakers don't have tones programmed into them - the panel send the message to them when it activates. The message is coming from a clip on my computer.
hey dan. I have one of these and when i bought it i thought it was a horn/strobe but it turned out to be a speaker/strobe. Now i know you need an amplifier to make the dude talk, but i dont have one. Any ideas?
my former office building had the same system, only it didn't do the "pre alert" chime, the whoop was much faster, it would whoop 3 times very quickly, use the same announcement, and then whoop again and repeat the process
The announcement is just an audio clip I made on my computer. As usual, the output is sent to my computer speakers, but from there, it's sent to an amplifier, which provides enough voltage to make the speakers work.
IDK if I agree w/ that entirely. You see these speakers installed alot, but they sound with a lot less bass than mine. Plus, if you hit the backbox w/ something, say a screwdriver, that's the sound you hear...

you probably have a horn strobe not a speaker strobe
smith2205 3 years ago
I've seen those at our local hospital, in addition to 2903-series speaker/strobes and a different type of speaker on 4903 pre-ADA strobe plates

I did have another speaker (computer, not FA) hooked up, but you shouldn't be able to hear it. I don't...

Cool vid. Where did you get the voice script and tones so that you could play them through the speaker?

A friend of mine managed to get the sound files. I downloaded the ones necessary to create the message, and edited the message together.

if you got them from a link on the internet, could you post it here. i am trying to put one together for an actual system.

Simplex Speaker/Strobes have larger speakers. That's why the sound is deeper.
