The thing that we need to work on in order to make an actual gundam is a power source of some kind, and better and faster servo motors. And maybe some way to allow for sustained atmospheric flight and or entry into low earth orbit and interplanetary transfer. Everything else is entirely possible. I actually think, building a Gundam with our current technology is a possible feat. But, nobody is seriously planning to do so. If this machine were to be built, it would be very useful in warfare due to its mobility and we could save on ammunition since combative attacks could be delivered. Someone should start developing it soon.

We can build a giant mechanical suit that walks around and poses, but I have doubts to whether we could really build a functional gundam with full weapons and thrusters. Gundam had better weapons than simple lasers, and our best laser weapon fits on a Boeing 747, which is bigger than gundam last time I checked. With current servo technology, I very much doubt about combat effectiveness of the chassis. Less Comics More Research!

yes but youve also look at the other side of an armored core or a vital suit they would cost less than a gundam,even steal would be able to support its weight from my perspective theres almost no downside and since some armored core are outfitted to walk the same way as a tank it would be easyier to actually build it and since the cost would go down it would more likely to be mass produced since the military is looking for a way to improve ground units this would be an easier solution

@icereaper88 An armored core? problem is, the armored cores does not have much redeeming features. An armored core is just the name for an mech in the franchise, an armored core can look like anything really. The Gundam on the other hand has one basic design that all of them are based on.

Depends on what series your watching. Gundamium was invented for the Wing series. The RX-78-2 which is what's depicted here is made of "lunar titanium alloy"

Well personally I think variable fighters like the ones in Macross would be more combat effective than mobile suits. They would be able to engage and outmaneuver fighter jets in fighter and GERWALK mode and engage targets on the ground in Battroid mode.
