  • Hope that can of black powder was empty .... cuz thats not the place to leave it when your shooting

  • @CimarronPeacekeeper No worries, the can is merely a prop. It is filled with a non-flammable inert material with non-flammable alert warnings on the cannon side of the can. We recognize that the steel walls of the can are not sufficient to resist the errant spark that might be emitted from the report of the mortar.

    Thanks for watching.

  • based on the coehorn mortar am i right?

  • Exactly. Later this summer we will have video of bucket bombs (based on cremora bombs) and anvil shooting (actually 110 pound blocks of steel.

    Thanks for watching.

  • well me and my buddies are tryin to make one of these, maybe not as elgant as yours appears, and use smokebombs instead of beercans

  • This one is made from 7" HRS round stock. It is bored for a beer can and counterbored to hold up to a quarter cup of Black Powder. The carriage is oak. It weighs nearly 100 pounds. We are going to use glow sticks stuck in the beer can so we can track the trajectory at night. Smoke bombs might be a day tracking alternative. We also have a black powder mortar that shoots golf balls with black powder. It looks more like a WWII military mortar.

  • Im just wondering what diameter of the barrel is on the golf ball mortar

  • ID on the golfball mortar is 1 3/4", the wall thickness of the pipe is 7/16".

We did use glow sticks launched out of the golf ball mortar a few times this past year. It is fun to see the trajectory and go into the dark woods and fields to find the glowing green orb.

We did one anvil shoot this year but no video, one pound of Goex Cannon grade cleared grass in a circle about five feet in diameter. The top block went as high as the mature maple trees. We shot all manner of guns the same day

  • you have a little more fun than i could....

  • @sidelock56

no way could that weigh 100 lbs. 40 maybe.

  • @scampaign you are of course correct, underwater or on the moon it is significantly less than 100 pounds.

  • @sidelock56 Your feeble attempt at wit doesn't make you right.

    Try using a scale.

  • @scampaign The comments tell you it is made of 7" HRS, a quick look tells you it is nearly twice as high as it is wide. Pull up any steel calculator you can find, make a reasonable allowance for the trunnion, blocks, hardware and carriage.

  • @scampaign Your feeble attempt at wit doesn't make you right.
