I love the Muppets, but I'm kinda afraid to watch the new movie because the 3 that were made in Jim Hensen's lifetime are among my favorite movies of all time.
@paperdain as someone who loves the first three movies as well; don't worry, the new one absolutely does justice to those three original movies, as well as the Muppet Show. I dare say it's actually better than the Muppets Take Manhattan! (it's probably not QUITE as good as the other two, but it is incredibly close regardless)
Yes, Have you heard Eric Jacobson Do him in the Life's a happy song finale? He sounds like Miss Piggy there! But Marvin was originally done by Frank Oz
Actually, they both stole it. It's an old vaudville bit. Cats were put in sacks and then 'played' with hammers. One of the more bizzare magic shows of a bygone era. I prefer Marvin Suggs tho'.
I found it, episode 304 (guest starring Gilda Radner), from Season 3, but the Witch Doctor appeared a few times on the show. This was not his only appearance.
This looks an awful lot like the Monty Python Flying Circus sketch entitled Arthur Ewing and his Musical Mice. I'm not saying it's bad; it's just as funny!
Marvin Suggs does sound like Miss Piggy in this skit, but if you watch the skit when Suggs is in the hospital room, and all of a sudden he does the conga with Rowlf, Janice, Miss Piggy, and other patients, Suggs does sound a lot like Animal, but no surprise, Frank Oz voiced Suggs, Piggy, and Animal.
Think about how they had to do this....5 people all crowded round each other...and god knows how they co-ordinated who "spoke" when.....mental and hilarious
there used to be a "Cat organ" way back in the day when cat torture was popular- people made "music' by prodding the cats or pulling their tails. Seriously! one was used in 1549. That may be the inspiration of the whole thing.
I love how Estelle and Virginia (the two who had to "exchange" at the beginning) bounce quietly in place during the verses. I'm glad they're not suffering too much...
@SpiffySpider No, he didn't. I think it was Martin P. Robinson who built and performed Audrey II on stage. Lyle Conway built the plant for the film version, and MANY puppeteers coordinated to bring it to life, most notably Brian Henson. The Frank Oz connection to Little Shop of Horrors is that he *directed* the 1986 film, which also has Heather Henson as what she calls "the bit part girl" in a scene with Bill Murray.
I love the Muppets, but I'm kinda afraid to watch the new movie because the 3 that were made in Jim Hensen's lifetime are among my favorite movies of all time.
