Dory was definitely a badass. He not only could work heel but he was a face as well, especially in Amarillo and Detroit. However, he was the true definition of silent but deadly.
Dory never struck me as a real bad ass heel like his brother.I guess because Dory wasn't as loud and animated like Terry was,and always was soft spoken.
Dory Jr didn't have 2 be like Terry & get Hardcore...BUT...If The Notorious DFJ was EVER called-upon...He could rip ANY1 in ECW/XPW/CZW/IWA (Japan/Mid-South/P.R./Deep South/TX/East Coast/Etc.)...a new 1 like that (snaps fingers)...Billy Jack DESERVED THIS,BTW!!!...

I watched this when it aired back in the 80's. Great gimmick and a good act by Mr. Funk. When ever Dory Funk wrestled or gave an interview on CWF tv, there was some good action. He always slapped, clobbered, back jumped, or pearl harbored another wrestler(s) and Gordon went haywire hollering all the stuff going on like, "We've got to get order restored, We'll be back, we'll be back." LOL
"Lords of the Ring" was a match between Flair and Rhodes in the Orange Bowl in the summer of '84. It was non-title, and Rhodes won it. This is what Solie and Funk are talking about at the start of the clip.
Dory Jr. could be over the top as well. I saw him in a match with Steve Keirn where he defeated Keirn by knocking him out (ran his head into the ring post). He put the Spinning Toehold on Keirn, wouldn't release it, and then gave the ref a piledriver for trying to break it up. Mike Graham did a run in, Jr. knocked him down, jumped off the top rope on him, and then did the same to the ref for good measure. Both of the Funks are nuts, Jr. just hides it a little better.
That's true. Also Terry took it further. For god sake, he and Cactus Jack nearly killed each other in Japan and he wrapped himself in barbwire with Sabu when they had the title match in ECW at Born to be Wired 97'.
@RSXemperor Terry was a traditional wrestler as well and he and Squiggy complemented each other well. In the 70s and 80s Terry was quite different from the Chainsaw Charlie and ECW guy he became.
That'll teach Billy Jack not to approach a Funk with some bullshit.

Dory was low key, but he was tough. He was different from Terry, but pretty badass in his own right. Those were the days.

Dory was angry because Billy Jack told him that he was the second best athlete to come out of West Texas State, behind Dusty Rhodes.

Junior was the straight forward, traditional wrestler while Terry was the lunatic.

I remember reading about the "Lords of The Ring" in PWI. I've never seen footage of the match, unfortunately.
By the way, what a DUMBASS thing to say by Billy Jack. "Other than Dusty Rhodes"?!

@zaius316 considering dusty backed down from billy in a real shoot situation.

@lockenjr Billy Jack had a criminal record so it was kinda smart for Duss to back down.
