I recently started to get off these 7th day today free and I already lost 2.2lbs being off :D I would exercise and try to eat healthy but it wouldn't work at all.... I didn't gain a lot with being on it for the 2 1/2 years I was on it but I did gain weight. It's so frustrating.
I have been on Lexapro and then Paxil going back several years. I have gained about 70 pounds. I hate it. I jog every night and eat salads and veggies. I ran out of medicine a few weeks ago and went three weeks off it (I know stupid - just made me a little tense) and lost about 8 pounds in about a week. I have gained it back even though I am living the same lifestyle. I am going to ask my doctor about coming off of it. Anything else I can take - either pharma or natural for depression?
@jc7622 same for me i was rapidly gaining weight and couldnt figure out why so i ate healthily and exercised and it didnt work so i eneded up keep giving up and felt like a failure back and forth to my doctor had loads of blood tests and then after month of being on paroxitine thought i would read the side effects couldnt believe it when i found out almost everyones gained weight on these i have gaine around 30-40lbs :( im hoping i can turn things around now i know the reason why x
I was on Paxil six years, I'll be off 5 years in April 2011. What a nightmare it has been for especially the first 2-3 years off -- akathesia, agoraphobia, extreme anxiety. Yes, I still suffer from the after-effects. I am still very different than had I never taken Paxil. My CNS -- central nervous system -- is still very sensitive. Yes, I lived through it. My life was destroyed while being on it. Thank God never gained excessive weight. Paxil survivors have long stories.
I have just got off paxil a week ago. I was on it for about 3 yrs up to 40 mg and gained almost 100 pounds!!! My doctor put me on zoloft because it tricks your body so you will have no or less wthdrawal symptoms, so far just dizzy, feeling low.... I was 5'6 120 pounds and very active healthy physically...It makes you lazy now im a fatty:( I can not wait to get this weight off, I even cancelled my wedding cause of this drug!!! but it did help me very much in the begining.
I was 6'1 and 140 pounds all through highschool. I could eat WHATEVER I wanted under the sun, and never gained weight. I started taking Paxil, and gained about 30 pounds in 2 1/2 months. As soon as I stopped taking paxil, I dropped all the weight within like a month and a half. What is YOUR conclusion??
@crackernumber2 I don't know if your comment is tongue in cheek but I can tell you what might happen: Paxil will make you not want to train anymore... At a certain level, you feel like a zombie and don't really care about anything or anyone. On the physical side, Paxil is known to slow the body metabolism, so if you burn 3,000 calories it will just become 2,500 like that. Nice pill huh?
@crackernumber2 its different for different people ive rapidly gained weight on paroxitine like no other anti-depressant even tho i eat much less than 2000 cals a day and exercise i cant loose the weight i have only just found out it must be the paroxitine my doctor told me my pills wouldnt make me gain weight and i believed them until i read the side effects and checked on the net x
@tiffanybr00ks - it has benefit me, but I still gained 40 pounds and I run 24 miles a week!
If there is an ingredient they could change to not mess with the metabolism so much, that would be great. I am on 20mg and it seems a bit too much at times (it makes me tired and too calm), but if I go for more than 24 hours without it, I get brain zaps (picture somebody smacking the top of your head really hard - it's that flinch). The only way to get off the meds safely is to taper off.
I just started taking paxil 2 days ago, i've been feeling very strange, appetite is not has changed very dramatically already, don't get hungry very much and feel groggy and shakey. Should i stop takin this?
This gives me hope! I am currently tapering myself off of Paxil and I am down to 5mg. I was on Paxil from 2000-2001 until my doctor had taken me off of it cold turkey when I became pregnant. What a nightmare...withdrawals + morning sickness! Anyway, I had developed depression in the last few years and nothing else worked so my new doc decided she wanted me to try what had worked for me in the past...yep, Paxil! I am ready to be done with it! You look great here...I really like your hair!
Tremendous weight gain is a known side effect of antidepressants. They cause etabolic changes. SSRIs interfere with what goes on in the intestines. I competed in powerlifting competitions while on SSRIs, so I can relate. But it was buried under all that FAT! All drugs do not affect all the same way. There are actually a few people who have no adverse reactions. Bad reactions, weight gain, suicidality, etc., far outweigh the non-reactions. SSRIs are nasty stuff.
Good for you & thank you for this video. I am looking forward to weight loss after I wean myself off of this sh*t. I feel like sueing the doctor who neglected to tell me about all the side effects & hellish withdrawl.Non-addictive my *ss.
HOLY CRAP GIRL! THAT IS AMAZING! I am sooooo looking forward to getting off of my anti-0depressants. I have gained toooo much weight for my liking. Which is about....15-20 pounds. ptttthhhh... you can see my video about it in my profile if you want to look :P
This is very interesting for me. I have been on Paxil 20 mg for the last year and I had enough. I have gained 40 pounds, but I am soooo scared of the withdrawl effects and the brain zaps and all that. what did you come off of? Any advise , should I be scared? tnx
I came off 3 years's worth of 20 mg daily. It has now been 5 years as of the end of January, and I survived! It can be frightening (the first feelings of withdrawal were terrifying, I thought I was dying). Do this only under caring, understanding supervision.
I went off Paxil completely a few weeks ago. I took about a year and a half to get off it, but from what I've read, my med-shrink may have reduced it by too much, at least sometimes. I think the things I'm experiencing are withdrawal, and it scares me. I have anxiety, mood swings, ready to cry at the drop of a hat, etc. I also hope, like you, I'll lose weight, if I can manage without the Paxil.
Its dangerous stuff. For me, some of the withdrawal effects stopped, but it took a long time. I'm still convinced that I'm suffering even two months after stopping. It should be illegal with the rest of the SSRIs.
After 5 years off Paxil now, I thought I was done with it all. But I got sick recently, and don't you know the zaps came back for a while!!!! Fortunately the weight has stayed off.
i am still on this horrid drug. My starting weight was 37kg as a 17 year old girl. It is nearly my 22nd birthday and I now weigh 68kg. I started on 40mg but in the last year cut down to 20mg....
Was put on for being suicidal. I looked SO good when I started this drug! Mostly muscle from going to the gym. The fat just started growing like a disease, though, and I discovered it was caused by the Paxil. Sure, Paxil had the desired therapeutic effect, but the side effects were intolerable. It's a crying shame that drugs with pleasant side effects are usually illegal!!!!!
i think your extra weight is caused by two factors, because of the paxil/seroxat, and maybe because you are getting older. 3 years ago my weight was 65kg, after taking seroxat i gained 20kg.
i've also taken Benzodiazepines wich is terrible to get off, i'm now in a rahab center because of that but i quit using them for about 3moths now, and again i gained weight...
I might agree, except for the fact that my extra weight went back down to exactly what I weighed before starting Paxil. In fact, it went down to a few pounds less and my clothes were too big! So yes, I am older, but no, this was decidedly NOT an age-related weight gain. Now, I got satellite dish TV over the holidays and gained 5 pounds from sitting on my butt and watching shows. But that's another story.
I built up weight until I weighted 79kg, now I'm 67kg.
I have quited in the cold turkey way. I don't know if 67kg is my real weight, I'm pretty skinny. And I don't feel allright either...but that was even before I ever took it. But....it WAS really, reallly hard to quit!
How did you quit? I'm 21 and I started taking it when I was 15. I can't fall asleep and I just decided that I am going to take the opportunity of unemployment before my last year of college and quit paxil (20 mg) and I think I'm going to video blog it to share my experience. So I searched paxil here and found yours. Congratulations on quitting, you look great!
Dear amberjo, How did I quit? I got sick the last few days of January 2004 and couldn't keep anything down, so after 2 days I just decided not to take Paxil anymore. Keep in mind 2 things - cold turkey withdrawal is awful if not difficult and dangerous, and doing it cold turkey is NOT the recommended way. Thanks for the compliment, BTW. I will try to e-mail you with some information.
I gained 60 pounds on that drug and then when I tried to get off it I broke out into a full-body rash and couldn't think straight. No lie - this drug is POISON. You look better than me right now :) I'm still stuck at 15mg.
Damn, I cant resist to say you have a very nice boobs shape. No joke!
