The story is that Kreisler couldn't get audiences interested in music he wrote himself so he started claiming things were actually by older, forgotten and obscure composers and audiences ate them up. Forgeries basically.
Eventually the state of musical scholarship caught up with him and he admitted he was the composer.
@robcat2075 He did what he had to do, I guess. He's still an amazing composer, either way. Same with the Casadesus family. It's weird admitting that I like the K271a "Mozart" violin concerto the best, when it wasn't written by Mozart at all. But, it's a great concerto in the style of Mozart.
I finally have the solo violin sheet music for this scanned in again, so I can send it to anyone who wants it. Just message me with your email address and I'll forward it to you.
I agree that it doesn't sound like Vivaldi at all. According to the booklet that came with this CD, it said that this piece was based on Vivaldi's style as it was known at the time. Apparently, not too many pieces of Vivaldi's had been discovered at the time Kreisler wrote this, which I find hard to believe.
Thanks. There's never a good time to injure a finger when you are a pianist! I'm accompanying three concerts this week, so I'll find out how well I work with 9 fingers instead of 10.
Eek! Sounds like the story of the violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg. She cut herself, in the kitchen as well, I think, and re-fingered all her scores minus one finger. Luckily, she recovered. Her injury was really quite serious, though. I hope your's is not serious. Or, if it is, I hope your recovery goes well.
Small world...I cut a finger yesterday while preparing Thanksgiving dinner and ended up in the ER for a few hours. The doctor who took care of me is the niece of Milton Kaye, who is the pianist on these recordings. I'll have to see if I can track down some of these recordings because I've enjoyed what I've heard!
Sorry I missed this comment. I have the score for this piece. Send me a message in my YouTube inbox with your email and I will send it to you once I scan it onto my computer.
This is fascinating.

Hello, isn't this supposed to be Allegro moderato e maestoso?
silasha 1 year ago
@silasha Not according to the CD and the score that I have for it. Both list it as Allegro energico ma non troppo.

Well, it sounds more in the style of Bach with some romantic additions.

Nice, but not in Vivaldi style.
Perhaps a mix between a vague baroque (some similar-Bach incisi) and romantic style.

But at least it's still fun to play. :)

The consensus seems to be that this Kreisler composition inspired the quest for Vivaldi's music.

Mine is not that serious, although it may be difficult to use that finger for awhile. I'll know a little better tomorrow.
