I used to watch this film when I was a child. You don't think that a film can affect you profoundly but this film, precisely this scene taught me about apartheid and the brutal nature of man. Thankyou to the director and filmmakers

I love this movie, and I cried so hard in the middle of class at this scene :( Such a wonderful, inspirational movie. I can't believe even one person could dislike it.
we are reading this is class and well i didnt read the book (even though i heard it was awesome) but we watched this clip in class and well i didnt know what happened and I CRIED!!! and my eyes are watering now too :'(
The guard later suffers from a hideous, prolonged, agonizing infection/cancer of the colon and the book describes how at the end at his death, he felt what it was like to have a stick forced up his anus until his intestines burst out.
For those of you who are saddened by Morgan Freeman's character's death, I'll give you a spoiler from the book:
In the book Giel Piet (Morgan Freeman's character) is beaten to death by a brutal guard, including having a stick forced up his anus until his intestines burst out.
The other inmates later discover this crime, and Peekay describes a mental osmosis, where if people wish something badly enough it will happen.
Don't take this the wrong way but I'm glad I didn't have to watch the end of that scene. Is it okay if I turn away at certain point during this scene?
this is amazing... but in the book, wasnt this supposed to be a combination of all the tribe's songs together? not the whole "run away, run away, they are cowards"?
i just finished this part in the novel, i was so uplifted at the image of this concert, and i was crying so hard when what happend to Geel Piet happened..... what a fantastic novel, very moving... (and it's my summer homework too!)
I think this is the GREATEST movie EVER made. And the world should make more movies like this to bring the "human" race together as one with Piece and Harmony to live free. Because in the END we all Bleed to same Color.
@hibaA87 You can save this on your channel. I noticed you've been on here over a year, but so had I before I relised I had a channel on here lol. You could put it on favourites or a playlist.
This is an absolutely incredible film, love it so much and the music is incredibly moving! Love Morgan Freeman in this and the young Stephen Dorff! :P
I could not describe how well made this movie is. From the story to the charaters that are so brilliant. And theres only one word for the soundtrack: Masterpeace. The best movie by far, NUMBER 1.
It is very difficult to watch Morgan in this scene. The director made the choice to contrast the celebration with hatred and, ultimately, death. I enjoy the music, but I really enjoy the power of the scene, the contrast of it.
A little fun-fact: Lebo M also work on Disnes'y The Lion King, and was almost late for a recording session, because he was working on The Power of One at the same time :)
Interestingly enough, Hans Zimmer was also the one who composed the music for The Lion King. It was his suggestion that Lebo M be brought in to perform (he's the one at the beginning when the sun rises and he goes like "AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH ZIMBENYAHHHHH......."). freaking epic.
