ice dance could've taken such a wonderful path of innovation and creativity. the skaters today are wonderfully talented, but it's too much like pairs. i loved this prgressive sort of ice theatre approach to explore what two people skating together could create. it's another example of lousy judging, judges couldn't figure out what they were seeing so no everybody has to do the same elements.
I feel mixed about this free dance. It highlights almost all of their technical weaknesses but at the same time, this program has to be considered to be one of the greatest artistic achievements and triumphs in the history of figure skating. A bit of a mess technically but artistically, this free dance is an avant-garde masterpiece.
@gk891 Totally agree with you.... I would've loved to have seen Torvill and Dean skate this FD. I have to say the commentators here were very fair in what they said. (Also very odd hearing Robin Cousins with an American accent at the end, which he's now lost!)
@muscleboi4use I would also love to have seen Torvill & Dean skate this FD. They have such phenomenal edge quality, they would've looked like they were truly gliding over the ice. However, I think perhaps it wouldn't have worked as well visually? Being brother and sister, Paul & Isabelle have a lot of matching physical characteristics so that worked well for them in terms of the 'mirror image' aspect of this FD. Who knows, I could be wrong.
In 2008, Daisuke takahashi tried this music as his free program with Pasquare. He performed it several times in Japanese ice show, However he decided not to do the program like Isabelle &Paul.

What a disappointment they dropped this program without giving a try developing it further.
