@thomaswever1 Right before he puts her in the bath, her husband drugs her with a special kind of anaesthetic that keeps her awake but paralyses her body. We just watched it in my English class. :)

Michelle Pfeiffer was really good, I'd guess she was in almost every single shot in the film, so anything but a great performance would have shown.
