I can't argue that this isn't typical Gabriel. We're spoiled by perfection. In the original version he is also just talking through the soft passages, a rare feat as who sounds that good without projecting their voice. That's a big part of his vocal style. This whole thing looked and sounded very informal. Their is no way Peter performs like this in front of 18,000 fans.

I understand my view re 'Book of Love' will be unpopular.Having heard Gabriel's studio version in 2004 - -i have had nothing but awe and admiration re this cover of the Magnetic Fields original...It's simplicity, absence of 'slush' enhanced by Gabriel's ..maturing voice-support the lyrics in a way that is unique for a love songs that are so often cliched. 'The New Blood Tour' -May>Europe & US-may not include Australia.-with regret.
