The last picture says it all; a man devoted to his family above all else. Maybe the most determined and relentless competitor I've seen in any sport in the 50+ years I've been watching, but first a foremost a husband, father, and grandfather who clearly loves his family. What a class act, and for my money the greatest golfer of all time.

Also, you won't find any credible golf analyst, player, writer, etc that will tell you the fields were deeper back then. Tiger Woods compared to Jack Nicklaus? Give me a break. Jack competed against several true legends of the game,Palmer,Trevino,Watson and Player. Tiger plays against who?...Phil and...a.....?. Nicklaus won 18 majors AND finished second in 19 others. If Jack had Woods competition he would have won 30 or so. I will be a gentleman and not even discuss the differences in their private lives.

@lcart33 Trevino says a lot of things...mostly to fit the texture of an interview. There's video on YouTube of him contradicting that statement and elsewhere in print. As far as more people able to win these days...not in majors, at least...thus far, when comparing eras. Bottom line, we'll never know.

Its hard to give your comment any credibility after the last question and answer. From my understanding blood spinning isnt illegal, its only illegal when combined with HGH. His records will only be tainted if people think the affairs taint them, the HGH story doesns't have enough evidence to stick.

However, Tiger went to a canadian Doctor who uses HGH when performing the procedure. So, you do the math were there is smoke there is often fire and Tiger when he starts back will have to deal with steroid issues.

Even if it were true, which there is no evidence that it is, it would mean that Jack is the greatest player by default. I've seen that video, I have the DVD of the 1986 Masters at home and I watch it from time to time. I would hope its clear in my posts that I have nothing other than respect and admiration for Jack Nicklaus. He is one of my favourites players of all time. All players have been tested for steroids. I was actually at the 2005 Open when they printed his face on the five pound note and I've got one myself. I don't what we will do if anythign to celebrate Tiger. The reaction from the golf commentators over here hasn't been particularly strong. Most have expressed that they would like him back and its also been mentioned how much he has done for the game over the last decade.

Well I was under the impression that they had been tested, I was sure they mentioned it last year but I may be wrong. As for Tiger don't get me wrong the tabloids went for him big time, the British press actually played its own part in keeping the story going for so long. But I was saying what the golf commentators as in TV commentators on sky sports has said when discussing the issue because I feel it may have some reflection on the general feeling from the golfing community over here.

I like Mickelson and he is a great player but for me unless he gets to 5 or 6 majors he has underachieved. He has a great chance at the majors this year though so it may happen. I think he is wrong to use the square grooves though. Using a loop hole in the laws of the game to gain an advantage over other players is against the integrity of the game. I would certainly be surprised if Tiger uses the square grooves when he returns.

No, the procedure that Tiger had done using this doctor is legal. Furthermore its an advanced procedure that is done by a small number of doctors, so he didn't have the amount of choice that you make out. Also the procedure was done following his knee surgery, he was no bigger in 2009 than he was in 2008.

Your only interested in the use of HGH because you know thats the only story that would prevent Tiger being considered the greatest. Besides it could never be proven, nothing more will ever come out. The story died out for a reason, because there was very little reason to suspect Tiger of taking the stuff and because there was no evidence of it whatsoever. I think its correct, if Tiger goes back on tour and plays for the next 5 - 10 years as he has done for the previous decade then he will almost certainly break the record of 18. He will then be considered by the majority of the golf world to be the greatest. I'm not saying that everyone will and I'm not saying at that point its right for him to be considered the greatest. But I think once he breaks 18 the majority of the golf world will consider him to be the greatest.

I am sure I watch far more of Tiger and current golf than you, and I think I have only seen Tiger throw a club in that way one other time. He normally just drops it to the ground. Nicklaus won 18 majors AND finished second in 19 others. If Jack had Woods competition he would have won 30 or so. I will be a gentleman and not even discuss the differences in their private lives.

Tiger is the dominant golfer of my generation, had I been around in the 80s I would have supported Seve and before that probably Nicklaus or Player. I am somewhat bias of course, but only in as much that I would rather assume the best of him rather than the worst when there is doubt. Equally I am no more biased than you are against the guy. Even if it were true, which there is no evidence that it is, it would mean that Jack is the greatest player by default. Jack said himself he wouldn't want to keep his record if Tiger was prevented by injury. And according to your expertise this injury should have ended his career and would have without HGH. So Tiger, Jack and golf would lose.

You don't have the evidence or the reasoning to come to this conclusion. I've seen that video, I have the DVD of the 1986 Masters at home and I watch it from time to time. I would hope its clear in my posts that I have nothing other than respect and admiration for Jack Nicklaus. He is one of my favourites players of all time. Not much you can say bad about Jack. He does not cuss on the course or throw his clubs. He did not act like a spoiled child when he loses. Jack was a very gracious losers. Jack did not have a bully for a caddy who scared old fans and who throws cameras in the water. Jack did not charge kids money for his autograph or request outrageous fees just to show up for a tournament. All players have been tested for steroids. I was actually at the 2005 Open when they printed his face on the five pound note and I've got one myself. I don't what we will do if anythign to celebrate Tiger. The reaction from the golf commentators over here hasn't been particularly strong. Most have expressed that they would like him back and its also been mentioned how much he has done for the game over the last decade.

Well I was under the impression that they had been tested, I was sure they mentioned it last year but I may be wrong. As for Tiger don't get me wrong the tabloids went for him big time, the British press actually played its own part in keeping the story going for so long. But I was saying what the golf commentators as in TV commentators on sky sports has said when discussing the issue because I feel it may have some reflection on the general feeling from the golfing community over here.

I like Mickelson and he is a great player but for me unless he gets to 5 or 6 majors he has underachieved. He has a great chance at the majors this year though so it may happen. I think he is wrong to use the square grooves though. Using a loop hole in the laws of the game to gain an advantage over other players is against the integrity of the game. I would certainly be surprised if Tiger uses the square grooves when he returns.

No, the procedure that Tiger had done using this doctor is legal. Furthermore its an advanced procedure that is done by a small number of doctors, so he didn't have the amount of choice that you make out. Also the procedure was done following his knee surgery, he was no bigger in 2009 than he was in 2008.

Your only interested in the use of HGH because you know thats the only story that would prevent Tiger being considered the greatest. Besides it could never be proven, nothing more will ever come out. The story died out for a reason, because there was very little reason to suspect Tiger of taking the stuff and because there was no evidence of it whatsoever. I think its correct, if Tiger goes back on tour and plays for the next 5 - 10 years as he has done for the previous decade then he will almost certainly break the record of 18. He will then be considered by the majority of the golf world to be the greatest. I'm not saying that everyone will and I'm not saying at that point its right for him to be considered the greatest. But I think once he breaks 18 the majority of the golf world will consider him to be the greatest.

Yes exactly, the procedure he carried out isn't done by many doctors. That procedure is not illegal. What is illegal is if it is combined with HGH, but there is no evidence that it wa. So all you are doing is speculating based on little or no evidence. Also Tiger didn't go to Canada, the doctor obviously would have come to him. Who is the classier human being? You really can't quantify that, its entirely subjective. Jack showed more sportsmanship and was a more gracious loser of course however. But you know you people can complain about Tiger swearing and dropping clubs all they like but for me and many others I really don't mind it. He doesn't do it often, and he is a strong and emotional competitor which makes him fun to watch. Its why ratings go up 50% when Tiger plays. People like to see the fist pumps.

I am sure I watch far more of Tiger and current golf than you, and I think I have only seen Tiger throw a club in that way one other time. He normally just drops it to the ground. He shouldn't do it and it probably is a negative thing to pass on, but equally the overwhelming positives that Tiger brings far outweigh the negatives. And noones perfect, it may be hard for you to believe but not even Jack Nicklaus is.

I guess my responses are odd if you cant keep up with your own commentary and then have to backtrack because its Tiger Woods. Too bad. Just keep turning a blind eye to your hero and youll never have to accept reality no matter how many times his dalliances are quantified.

Seriously, I'm not turning a blind eye and neither am I back tracking. I said myself that Tiger mucked up and that he can't be considered the good family guy that Nicklaus was. And in that you somehow seem to think I'm defending Tiger.

Well, Tiger is absurd. I mean come on man. How can he be serious. How many girls on the side does he need. I can understand cheating on your wife. I do not believe it is right but I can understand. However, Tiger was cheating with every cocktail waitress and Hooters chick. One of his girls claims to have naked pictures of him. Tiger is kinky as well. Now it has come out that he had been drinking and taking drugs before the accident. Oh man. Well he is know role model.

Come on man, what is up with the nude photos? The 11 mistresses or the pill taking? Is he so obnoxious that he thinks he can get away with anything he wants. What about unprotected sex with porn stars. Tiger may have aids. The Florida Highway Patrol should have got that blood test. Once again the great man took the high road with his comments on the matter. However, Tigers obnoxious and childish actions must sicken him.

This vindicates everything I have said about Tiger. I told you he was a spoiled punk. Unprotected sex with porn stars. Naked photos of him floating around. Cheating on his wife with over 11 women. The brat better hope he has not given his wife a STD. Heck, he might have aids.Refusing to talk to the police. The pill poping Vikiden and other drugs. Trying to buy his way out of trouble. I think the argument is over. Jack William Nicklaus is the greatest golfer that ever lived.

My guess is people will be debating whether Nicklaus or Woods is the better golfer forever. But there's no doubt who's the better sportsman and the classier human being. I've watched Nicklaus for close to 50 years, and never saw him throw a club, never saw him curse out loud, and never saw him hot-dogging a shot at the expense of his playing partner.
I'll take the Golden Bear every time.
